David Lee sitting out the year is perhaps the least realistic idea posted on this board all summer. Kudos Briggs.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Briggs tried his hardest all summer to do it and he finally reached his goal.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

If you were his agent--would you advise him to play for 2.5mm$ I know I would not either would his agent. He's going to be paid market value--Im pretty sure of that. I would not trade risk of injury for 2.5mm and that is why they continue to work S+T routes.

Can you cite one example of a player sitting out the year rather than taking the QO and then getting a nice contract?

If you were his agent--would you advise him to play for 2.5mm? K would give him the advise to sit it out if that is the case. Either market value or S+T--or no play. This is kind of a stupid conversation because the Knicks will pay him 8-9 mm--they know they have to.

No example needed--there is no way that David Lee will not get paid his fair market value by the Knicks. It's a dumb conversation--they wont even go there in terms of trying to get him to play for 2.5mm--they will pay him--number 1 they owe him--number 2 I doubt they want to further pirse him off-and thats as far as it goes. This conversation is about the QO--but he is not going to play for that--I don't think a few of you understand that. His agent would never let him do it and the Knicks cant be that stupid. Wait a week or two and see what Lee gets paid--atleast 8mm for the year and maybe more.

Well I'd admit I was a failure and fire myself if it came to that. But if I were taking over the case today and if the only two options were to sit out or play for the QO, I would tell him to play for the QO for at least two reasons: (a) he'll get much more the following year if he has another double double season than if he sits out for the year. What are the odds of a "career-altering" injury? Maybe 1 in a 100? Probably less actually. Now, how much more will teams give him if he has another double double season than if he looks like a greedy jerk sitting out the year? At least $10 maybe 25 mil more would be my guess. And (b) I want my commission, and I don't get that if he doesn't sign a contract!
My expectation, though, is that the Knicks will reach an agreement with Lee on a nice 1 yr contract in exchange for his word that he will not veto any trades.

We're not offering the QO.. LEE is going to be generously paid well above the QO. Something that i can't recall any other franchise ever doing for a player.

Cite that.

All I know is David Lee will not play for the Knicks for $2.00 this coming season. Bookmark this thread, because I'm going to stand behind that prediction.

In my opinion, DW is doing it right. He CANNOT risk not even being in the game for LBJ for marginal talents. I like Sessions and I think he is better than Duhon. But, NY has to make sure they have enough cap space next summer to sign LBJ....AND fill out the roster in a decent way. The following year, they will gain another 18M in space and be able to sign another top FA. 2 Top FA's to go along with our young core!

We have waited this long for a shot at LBJ, DW's job is too NOT F$#$#@ it uP!

Lee will either play for NY and play well or he will have to sit out. There is no way he is that stupid. His image would go down, and he would lose any chance he would have to get the money he wants. The best thing for Lee to do is to sign as big a contract for 1 year with NY and kick butt! He needs to continue doing what he does well AND start knocking down the open 15 footers and he HAS TO defend better. Then he will get his money next summer.

Lee sitting out? Has that ever happened in the NBA?

Fair market value? isnt that set by supply and demand? Who is offering Lee a contract? Nobody.

When the offseason starts next year are the teams with cap space going to start jumping on Lee the day negotiations begin? Or are they going to start with Dirk, Lebron, Amare, Wade, Boozer, Bosh.... zzZZZZzzzzZZZzzz

Everyone (including Lee) EXCEPT you seems to see pretty clearly what is happening here.

The hedge? The hedge is simple. Keep whoever we want to keep. Or maybe we can just go assemble the all Briggs team and watch the wins just roll in.... Abur Rahim, Rodney White, Marcus Williams and Hasheem (I can add 15 wins) Thabeet are sure to be available.

0.000% chance Lee sits out. If that happened, the websters dictionary would say "See David Lee" when you look up the word assinine. What good could that possibly do?

I am just trying to figure out what these sign and trades they're looking at. All I keep hearing is Portland, and we've been in rumors with Portland for forever, yet nothing has ever happened.

And I wonder why the hell Lee hasn't fired his agent yet at this point.

I'm with you guys. There is absolutely ZERO chance that David Lee sits out.. none. The guy doesn't have a market so he can't complain about any contract offer he receives from the Knicks because that is his ONLY offer he has. He won't be sitting out.

If I were Lee I would take this first serious offer I get at this point just to leave NY. This team has jerked him around and become downright ambivalent about re-signing him. They've basically said you aren't worth shyt and they could care less on whether he leaves or not. I would tell the Knicks that I don't want to be apart of this organization (I'm not sure how restricted free-agency works) and bounce.

They were very straightforward with him once the statements about cap projections came out from the league in July. According to all the articles I saw, they explained their 2010 plan to him and told him that they couldn't afford to give him the kind of contract he was worth but would try to do an S & T for him.

The only disrespect we have shown David Lee is by not offering him exactly what he wanted. Other than that, how has he been jerked around exactly? The team has been very open an honest with him, which is all they owe him. It's one thing if he doesn't like the answer he's been given, but to say he's been mistreated in anyway is not entirely accurate in my view.
I just hope that people will like me
