One problem I have with the 2010 plan: What about 2009? We don't have our pick this year, so there's no point in tanking. How about doing something to excite the fans' interest and winning some more games? Can we contemplate doing something more interesting than bringing White Chocolate out of retirement?

You're so serious all the time!
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

I understand throwing the fans a bone. Maybe a GM goes out and signs an Allen Iverson so we can all feel better about ourselves, but this has nothing to do with our overall goal of getting back into the elite group and possibly competing for a title. So whether Walsh does this or not, it really has nothing to do with a long-term plan

I actually feel better about this season than I did last year. It's still early but if both Gallo and Curry are in camp and able to go hard along with Darko, this is gonna be a tough team to deal with. We had almost zero size inside last yr and still the team was competitive when Duhon was healthy. It also looks like we'll be deeper at PG too. You can assume we'll add depth at SG, likely Almond or Crawford.

It's just looks to me like a better team. Walsh may be slow but he's not stupid and hasn't made any damaging moves.

When have you not felt better about the current year's team as opposed to the prior year?

I don't want people who think he has done a good job, because of course if gallo and Hill do well you guys will think Walsh has done a great job. I want the hatters.

No one really hates walsh, he has a giant question mark behind his name. Even if the draft pans out, he will still get an incomplete grade.

Should we give IT kudos for his draft picks, and sht on him for his cap killing contracts.

The problem is more than 3 qrtrs of the league is over paid, your going to have a hard time trying to build a team with cap friendly contracts.

How many teams this off season actually had cap space, just about every player in the league is either grossly over paid or slightly over paid. Its a fact.

My beef with walsh is that we maybe waiting on nothing.

I mean he drafted what appears to be a fragile player with a slight history of back problems. Let's make believe that didn't happen.
I can't do nothing but support walsh, but I don't want to say he's better then IT or laydan cause he's plans doesn't appear to be flawless

Maybe I'm overreacting but I seem to fall into conversations with some who aren't just critical but will say "we have incompetent management" This has happened at least 3 or 4 times this week. That's what prompted this post. I'm not a Walsh fan but I know the guy is trying to turn around one of the biggest embarrassments in recent sports memory. After one year his grade had to be an incomplete. Even if we liked everything he did up to this point, we would be a long way from knowing the end result of course.

You are falling in to the media trap that I warned everyone about. I'm trying to warn you guys!!!!! Walsh is not waiting. He is not Lebron or bust. If a game changer becomes available he said he would make the move. Why should we doubt him? It's just apparent that he's not willing to jeopardize a shot at getting Lebron etc because we were impatient and decided to sign Hedo or Lamar Odom or Carlos Boozer or any of these other lower level players. What would these signings do for us? They would put us right back into the predicament we have been in for decades. We'd be following a team that we can get all excited about because we traded for a "left handed soutpaw" who really can't help us win.

To me the plan is simple. You cut salaries. The fact that we have a chance to do this (after that roster we had) in 2 years is mind boggling to me. Then you build. But you don't build by collecting role players(again this is what Layden and Isiah did). You build by getting in position for stars!!! 2010 we will be in position. Sorry it couldn't be 2009 but blame the former regimes. If you can't get that star in 2010 what are you left with? You are left with the same type of roster that every rebuilding team in the world(we don't know this because we never rebuild) looks like. We will have a #6, #8, #23, #29 and possibly Lee and Nate. A very solid group of young guys plus expiring contracts. Exactly the situation we envied when Chicago looked like this.

We really can't say what goes on behind close doors and we usually find out about trades that were pass over months later, and sometimes wonder why the(the sac trade) hell he didn't do it.

Giving him an A for an incomplete job seems near sighted.

You don't really find out what really went on. You think you do. But in reality you are getting 2nd hand news from someone that wasn't in the room for the negotiations. They just heard it from a source and then reported it as fact. Then when Walsh says it didn't happen that way, our first reaction as a Knick fan is to believe the guy that gave us 2nd hand news and not the guy who was in the negotiations and so far has told us exactly what his plan is.

Bip - A lot of posts in this thread just proves that you can't rebuild in NY...or at least a lot of fans will be pissed for the non-action.

Walsh in my opinion has been doing a great job. He has a plan and he is not wavering or succumbing to the media. If Zeke was still running the show everyone will be hating on DLee and Nate right now because we would have signed them for MAX or close to MAX money.

This is Walsh 2nd year and as someone else has posted, he has gotten us under the cap. The last time this happened, we signed Chris Childs and Allan Houston. They were not the top of the FA list that year but I think we did pretty well. The Godfather is giving us a chance to sign very good to great players in the next couple of years. just be patient.

those are 2 different things.

you got a contract - you can do whatever the f you want. you’re trying to build a team according to your own particular plan - go for it. seriously who gives a f about what a bunch of idiot fans have to say. of course it goes without saying that when i say idiot fans i'm referring to all those EXCEPT the ones who post on ultimateknicks.com. do you think you’re going to get more asses in the seats for a lineup of retread nba players than you are for a squad of young guys that are busting it and playing full-throttle d'antonio ball? Do you think having one year without a #1 makes you have to panic and respond to a bunch of f’g moronic pencil-neck geek fans?!?!?!?!?!
