who is the raptor's coach?

jay triano:
TORONTO -- Jay Triano signed a three-year contract Monday to coach the Toronto Raptors, dropping the interim tag after taking over the team during the season.

Triano was promoted Dec. 3 after Sam Mitchell's dismissal.

The Raptors went 25-40 under Triano but finished strong, going 9-4 in their final 13 games.

"We have gone through an extensive evaluation process and have done a lot of soul-searching internally and came to the conclusion that Jay Triano was the right leader for this team as we move forward," general manager Bryan Colangelo said.

A native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, the 50-year-old Triano became the first Canadian-born and Canadian-trained coach in the NBA when he was hired in 2002 as an assistant to Lenny Wilkens. He spent six years as the Canadian national team's coach, leading the squad to a seventh-place finish at the 2000 Olympics.

"Today it's a great honor for me to be really rewarded by an organization that I've been devoted to for the past seven years," Triano said. "I've spent an awful lot of time late at night here at the arena preparing for games. I'm just anxious and excited. Things won't change."

he's been a member of the USA coaching team and has coached the US-select team the past few years...

This guy's #s are pretty bad. He can't rebound or pass, and it's not like he makes up for it with scoring or anything else.

are we really using stats to judge him? really? if that's the case than gallo is bust and a half as he can't even play a 1/10th of a regular season.

Yeah, but Belli has had a chance to prove himself while the sample from Gallo thus far has been an injury-plagued first season. Not a fair comparison.

Unless Belli magically improves, he's just a streaky shooter that is capable of little else.

my point is that it's silly to use stats to judge a player in that f'ed up situation...

gallo could be a superstar for all we know...

The question is, is Belli just in a f-kd up situation wrought on by a psychotic coach. Or is he in a f-ckd up situation because he cant play?

Even tho Nellie is batshyt crazy, I'm thinking the latter just from what I have seen from him.

Sorry, but that's just not accurate buddy. Based on what I've seen, it sounds like you're talking more about Morris Almond than Belinelli. I know clips never tell the whole story, but you tell me, we all saw Morris Almond awkwardly fumble his way through summer ball not too long ago - does anything Almond managed to show out there resemble anything close to what this kid Belinelli can do??? The handle, the court vision, the passing? The answer is no. This guy's head & shoulders a better player than Morris Almond. Period. And I bring up Almond because it looks like he may wind up being one of D'Antoni's main options at the 2 this year unless, God willing, we can come up with something better. Almond, sad to say, did nothing at all to distinguish himself in Vegas for us. The Raptors just got a young versatile shooter with great potential for nothing. I've wanted to see us go after this guy for awhile now. Excellent move for the Raptors. Terrible for us, esp. if we never even inquired about him these past couple of years. With regular PT, this guy's a major contributor on any NBA team.

no need to get worked up over this one, Fire. I've seen Belinelli play a fair amount and he's a stereotypical Euro to a Tee. Soft, perimeter player, no D...Him and Almond are A-Alikes.

But I will give you that Belli is becoming some sort of summer league legend, tho.

Guess so, damn DJ doesnt have any raptor sites to go to, so they can all circle jerk about how Belli is going to be the next Genobli?

didn't the knicks have a traded player's exception too?

it's these type of small moves that for some reason, knicks gm's, for some reason or another, just never seem to do.

Adding Darko? Acquiring pick #29? How many small moves do you expect?

as many that he can that will make the team better going forward. Darko is an expiring contract.

agreed. Darko will provide a much bigger need than a streaky chucker who couldnt check a stop sign.

People need to calm down. Scream about the Knicks buying picks --- we finally do and that's a problem. We try to make smaller trades, we need to make bigger ones. Then somebody else makes a smaller trade --- why arent the knicks making those kinds of trade?

we cant get everybody. Especially a scrub like Bellie.

darko was a good move by walsh. even if he is purely a rental and doesn't have a future with the team past next april. but other than that, you're right.

one of these days, the knicks will be relevant again. and when it happens, this board will be fun b/c there'll actually be something to talk about concerning the team and it's on court performance. and i hope it happens next summer and i hope y'all get lebron. 9 years of disgusting management is silly and it has to stop.

They can resign him for less than the cap hold though and it shouldn't affect the cap situation much.
