There is alot of manipulating of numbers with this thread. Tinsley is 31 not 33 and he hasn't played in 1 year not 2. There are good reasons to be concerned about acquiring Tinsley but what was presented was not accurate. Tinsley played well in 07-08 for the Pacers when he did play.

GKF why don't you post something positive then. All I see you doing is attacking members' posts that happen to be critical of Knick management. Lead by example.

If that's all you're seeing then you're blind. I've participated in many discussions regarding the Knicks these last few weeks. Meaningful, back and forth discussions on a number of different issues. I've presented facts and I've been respectful of the opposing opinion. But when people like knicks1248 continue to make posts that don't respond to any counter-argument and instead just bash senselessly then that gets annoying. You don't have to tell me what to do. I know what I'm doing. Just stick to Gallinari bashing and I'll stick to my own thing.

Isles and Trueblue are gone. You can calm down son. The war is over. Give peace a chance.

What happened to Isle's???...This isn't his usual summer hiatus?

Yeah, what gives?

You are right - up to a point. We shouldn't sacrifice 2010 for 2009. Agreed.

What I think Donnie is doing is trying to make 2009 more exciting by bringing in a veteran for 1 year who can help the team in 2009. The key has been a 1 year deal and except for Grant Hill, that has been what Donnie has offered. A 1 year deal helps us in 2009 but doesn't destroy 2010. So I'm fine with what he is doing. And all of the newspaper stories....well the reporters also have families to feed so they need to do something in the off-season to earn their paycheck.

I thought about this but what I get out of Donnie trying to sign a veteran is.... someone to be a mentor to the youth and not necessarily coming on board to "win games" if you will.

I think it's known you just need a solid veteran on your team to be the voice of reason. Dropping Malik and Q (whether we like it or not) dumped our veteran leadership and left no one behind to take up the slack.

So this is kind of where I see Donnie going for some of these washed up - or nearly washed up vets.

Other than that? I don't see the point of adding some of these players.

Comsic How is tinsley even as a rental relevant in anything remotely close to were doing..

And please kill it with this wait til 2k10/11 crap..I'm not saying deviate from the plan, but gain some assets to also give you SnT flexibilty, some talented players that will make sense. The way were currently constructed thus would the last place I would sign.

So next year when we end up signing Kapono, mike miller,
and these 2nd and 3rd tier fa we can start getting excited about a 40 win team

You want a rental in a year you have no expectations? Wouldn't it be better to spend that on a youth that might be a diamond in the rough? Instead of a washed up mess? That's what I'm getting at. Tinsley isn't winning us games - so there goes that. Tinsley isn't anyone's mentor - so there goes that. Why again do we want him? To corrupt the youth and teach them how to get in crappy situations with guns at 3am? Come'on!

The cameras and microphones are already installed and we hired Allan Houston. I'm sure he has his own office with a full time feed from said devices.

What we really need is some old guy to make a ton of money to show the young kids what happens when you get old and your best tricks on the court are relegated to falling down or getting stuffed by the rim. This is invaluable you know. Kind of like the dental movie showed in 5th grade where everyone's teeth are falling out so you're scared into scrubbing your gums with turpentine and brillo pads.

I don't think you can compare Tinsley to Marbs. Steph has serious emotional problems that include ego and social issues. Tinsley's troubles were off the court poor decision making incidents. Neither is good but you can grow up and Walsh knows Tinsley well. As far as Tinsley 'sucking' when he played I disagree. He can run an offense and sets guys up well. He has something to prove and is a talent that could be had on the cheap. A healthy Tinsley was a starting guard on most teams a year ago. Tinsley in D's system gets at least 9 assists a game. Tinsley is a low risk high reward investment and would be a guy obtained more to change the culture and view of the team then a piece to get LeBron.

His shooting stats are terrible- if people are getting on Sessions for not having a shot, Tinsley's stats are worth looking at- less than 40& lifetime from the field, and only a bit more than 30% from the 3pt distance. Yet he has averaged 7 APG over his career.

Don't know if folks trust Isola, but his most recent report on the situation said:
Jamaal Tinsley is prepared to sign with the Knicks ... assuming Donnie Walsh is willing to make him an offer. A source close to the free agent point guard said that Tinsley will commit to the Knicks, even it means accepting less money than other teams may offer, because he wants to be reunited with Walsh and play in New York...

...Friends say that Tinsley is eager to play again and resurrect his reputation following the team-imposed exile. A decision on whether to sign Tinsley will fall on D'Antoni since he will have to deal with the veteran guard on a day-to-day basis.

D'Antoni, according to sources, would prefer to make a run at Milwaukee free agent point guard Ramon Sessions.

This would indicate that there is a controversy within the Knicks over getting a guy like Tinsley on the cheap, and signing Sessions, which will give us less $$ for the 2010 plan.

There is no indication that the Knicks have actually made an offer to Tinsley. Could the Knicks be using this new "interest" to get Sessions to come down from his asking price a bit?

Dolan has to be the only owner in the league who can consistently hire a coac and team exec that aren't on the same page.

getting Mullin and Avery this off-season will end that trend.

Walsh knows that D'Antoni needs a veteran in the locker room to lead and control things. He has gotten rid of the knuckleheads and now needs a leader in place. I don't know if Tinsley is that guy but Walsh certainly is very familiar with his game and character.

i think this *leader* thing is being blown way out of proportion. for the most part, these roster is not filled with hooligans. i just think d'antoni wants some ready made nba vets to run the offense.

So Houston is in his office watching live feed from the Knicks locker room? That's reassuring to know. Thanks.

I used to watch Tinsley alot 4-5 years ago. He is a solid PG (obviously you have to factor in his age now though). I, however, think we would be better off taking a chance on Sessions. Sessions has the potential to be a top-10 pg for us for 5-8 years. What PG is going to become available in the next two years who is clearly better than Sessions? Other than Chris Paul, there aren't any. Forget Tinsley. Sign sessions to a longterm deal and sign Nate to a one year deal.

OMG, give me a break. Look at the source. So what if Walsh is meeting with Tinsley as a courtesy, there's no chance he ever gets signed. Where did all this BS come from.

I wouldn't be so quick to say there's no chance. Walsh drafted this guy and he will come very cheap. Plus he plays a position of need. I don't really want him but I'll say there's a very good chance we end up signing him.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

How's is session taking up cap room when he is young has plenty of potential, shown he's willing to get better and seems like a solid fit as the Pg in mike system.

This is why I'm left beliving donny has verbal commitment from james and wade(which sounds ridiculous) that its a done deal. Cause unless a deal emphatically blows Walsh away he's not doing anything to makes us better know or even relavent for 09
