I think he will be lucky to get 6 per year and that is about his ceiling. Of course there are enough dumb GMs out there, so who knows hwat he will end up gettng.

Lee should just hang it up and retire. It's all over.

With RFA's, unless they are superstars, its almost always better to let the market dicate their value. Guys that are worth a little bit above the mid level invariably get overpaid.

Lee might be best served to wait till next year- if he can match this years output he definitely can make his 12 next year. Teams will have a lot more cap space and will be much more willing to spend...especially when they lose out on some of the other guys.

He got greedy. He should have taken the 4 yr 32 mil offer. It was very reasonable.

No idea if it's still on the table or not. Either way, Lee got greedy and thought teams valued him a lot more than they do.

Great analysis by Tommy Dee

"Bartlestein would like you to believe that he has been contacted by fifteen teams regarding potential sign-and-trade deals for David Lee, but he won’t name a single one. That’s because teams are contacting him, but not offering the $10 million a year he claims that Lee is worth. If Bartlestein names teams and members of the press reach out to their sources, the word will quickly be out in regards to what other teams are willing to pay and David Lee will lose all of the negotiating power that Bartlestein made him believe that he holds."

Millsap also waiting by the phone.

Walsh is playing this good so far.

The old man is not stupid.

We have a fair offer on the table. We have treated him with respect.

Im not sure we have long term offer for Nate, but I don't hear anyone complaing. He appears to not be in our long term plans.

Nalod - if Jordan Hill makes a strong statement next week in Las Vegas, David Lee's leverage with New York gets a bit more tenuous.

Hill, Harrington and Jeffries (so far) can time share at the four spot.

gm's aren't talking to the press nowadays. tommy dee is spewing company lines.

colangelo just pulled off an amazing deal that not one rag had any knowledge of. he even pulled Orlando in when just day ago Otis Smith said publically he wouldn't s&t hedo.

Marketability.

LEE would own Indiana if he went there.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Drinkability

kam77 - Certainly, marketability makes the young girls scream and the old guys envy him... but Marketability does not win basketball games.

No matter which way you slice it homeslice, the Knicks, Lakers, Bulls, Blazers, PACERS and every other NBA franchise still need a big guy to defend the low post (and score inside) to win. David Lee won't "own" Indiana any more tha Austion Croshere owned Indiana if they don't win games.

Winning is marketable

thats why i been saying the Knicks don't need Lee as much as Lee needs the Knicks....its a shame...Lee should be signed already...that 12 mil price tag must be true cuz if he was getting offers close to the ones given to his peers he would be signed somewhere already....he definately should have taken the 4 year 32mil deal

If Millisap signs for $8 million/year from Portland, I'll think Lee will sign with the Knicks right away if that offer is still good. Millisap and Lee have been consider to be in the same market price range.

Drinkability 2

The only reason David Lee is "marketable" in New York is because Knicks fans are desperate to invest their emotion with any player who can produce on offense and who appears to be investing extra effort in the accepted manner of blue collar guys like Charles Oakley or Chris Dudley.

The praise is not always a by-product of superior production.

The NYC press battalion cooperates and fuels the attachment by focusing extra attention on said player. David Lee is celebrated for his notable string of double-doubles and model behavior. But those facts alone do not necessarily translate into Lee being a dominant basketball player. He is only slightly better than average at his position.

For any elite NBA franchises, David Lee is a nice player to have off the bench. For a team in the process of building a foundation is David Lee the clearly superior answer at 4?

I don't think so.

hence the sluggish market for his asking price.

With that said, I would welcome him back with open arms. I love David Lee.

Fellas he led the league in double doubles, 16pts 12rbs is damn good and not bench worthy any you look at it.

Bulls, Wizards, Warriors, Seattle, Nets, Heat, Cavs, he starts at pf just about every place he goes. Charlie V just got 8 million with a very limited resume, Varejo just got close to that as well. Gortat got 6 million with 5pts 4rbs.

It's fair market, but we are not going to pay an extra 4 million just because it's fair market. There is 1-2 teams out there that have cap room and portland isn't interested.

You think DLEE is taking the summer off? He is working on his jumper that will be much improved, he could easily reach 20pts this season.

"he starts at pf just about every place he goes. "

(cough)

No he does not.

MS - Lee does not start ahead of Luol Deng and battles getting minutes over Tyrus Thomas. He does not start over Antawn Jamison, Nick Collison or (automatically) Michael Beasley,

Besides, Seattle does not have a team.
