“Basketball is fun again,” he said. “Coming from where I came from, we ran more of a structured offense. But this offense is completely different. It’s a breath of fresh air.”
Almond, who was drafted 25th over all in 2007, is the rare first-round pick who did not have his third-year option picked up, making him an unrestricted free agent.
“Everybody’s path is different,” he said, betraying no bitterness toward the Jazz. “That’s just kind of how the ship sailed.”
As a summer-league player, Almond has no obligation to the Knicks, but he seems eager to stick with them.
“New York is the team that asked me to come to summer league,” Almond said, “so this is who I want to play for.”
