The fact that there even are "what ifs" are a positive in terms of allowing yourself financial flexibility. Having flexibility gives you options. What we've been doing for the past 10 or 11 years doesn't.
i see the positives to the pro 2010 camp.
but i also strongly believe that the 2010 plan was not needed. with d'antoni in the house, and with teams looking to dump major players at 5 cents on the dollar, knicks could've really stocked up like no other team. we're not talking about s&t for jamal crawford or eddy curry...we're looking at guys like camby, diddy, vince, artest, etc. and if d'antoni is the great coach he is believed to be, he would've made it work and made it work big time.

Maybe- I'm not convinced those players were championship guys either. Diddy and Vince have plenty of parallels to Marbury. Camby is aging and Artest is timebomb. Maybe you can get 2-3 of those guys but certainly not all. And actually managing to acquire most or all of them without giving up your picks and young players would've been virtually impossible, and if unsuccessful, basically would've screwed us for another half dozen or so years.
Who are Championship guys in your opinion? Seriously what players would people on this board be satisfied with?
Wade, Lebron, Amare, Bosh, Dirk, Joe Johnson, Rip Hamilton, Josh Howard, Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay, LaMarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo. we nab 2 of these and i'd say we're ready to make a run.
Is there really a difference between these guys and Andre Miller, Ben Gordon, Ron Artest, Andre Iguodala, Devin Harris, Michael Redd, Carlos Boozer, Chauncey Billups, Danny Granger, and your probably thinking what is my point; well I just think that the players everyone believes the Knicks should wait for is or could be readily available. At the end of the day there really isn't a difference in the level of talent (if we're talking about all-star caliber players). Now I'll give you LBJ and D-Wade are special players but with them on your team there are no guarantees.
Players who are more efficient with their offense and give an above average effort on the defensive end are building block players. Those 4-5 guys can be part of a championship team, but more than likely would be a supporting player to a real building block.
Tell me how does one quantify these things and determine if a player fits into this category? But I was looking for you to name actual players not just definitions of how a Championship caliber player play.
