The only thing that will disgust me here if we reach for Jack McClinton--otherwise an interesting diversified player could fall here

Why is he a reach? The guy is a dead on 3pt shooter (45%) on a team without much talent (sound familiar?). He can't finish but as a shooter he is as good as they come (at 5'11" anyway) and is instant offense off the bench. He could at least replace Nate's outside shooting, but clearly not his finishing.

snippet:
Despite playing on a bad team with few other scoring options, McClinton was the most efficient shooting guard in our database at 1.08 PPP. He also ranked second in logged FG% at 47%, on a very respectable 18.6 possessions per game. Showing clear-cut limitations as a finisher around the basket (2nd worst amongst all SGs in fact), McClinton’s best asset is his jump shot. He was above average in PPP in his 1.9 guarded catch and shoot shots per game at 1.09, but was off the charts at 1.8 PPP on 2.5 unguarded catch and shoot shots per game. He was also the best pull up shooter in our database at 1.08 PPP on 5.5 shots per game.

Though he didn’t stand out on the pick and roll or in transition, McClinton’s 1.07 PPP on 4 isolation possessions per game lead us to believe that he has most of the raw tools required to be an excellent threat to score off the bench. He shot over 50% in one-on-one situations driving in either direction, making him the most balanced player on our list. Even though he took a lot of threes, McClinton still scored on a higher percentage of his logged possessions than any other two at 47%. Though he’ll need to expand his range a bit and show that he can produce at the same level he did this season, it isn’t inconceivable that he develops into an Eddie House type player down the road.

Notice the things I highlighted, he is up there when rating players offensively. D.E. has him going pick 29 in round 1! eheh

Why would I get hot in my pants about a 6-1 shooting guard who primarily shoots 3's and is already 24 years old? Didnt we give Roberson a million dollars--are you going to tell me we are spending 3mm on this kid we couldve EASILY taken well into round 2?

Come on let me in the door and I will draft us a much better player witha blind fold

He has 14 Field goal attempts per game, 7 of which are 3pters, so clearly he doesn't take just 3 pters. The difference between him and Roberson (or rather "Robbed-us-some") is that Roberson was good in practice. This kid did it all year long.

Basketball don't get me hot in my pants anyway, it's just a game to me. I'm thinking of what this team needs considering we all know that they are planning on Lebron. We want people who can shoot. We can still buy more picks if need be. I'm hoping one of them could be for Mullens...

The Answer Man May Be A Bit Crazy But He Never Lies

Q. orangeblob - have you worked closely with the front office of an NBA franchise?

A. Yes, from 1998 - 2004

Q. orangeblob - How would one infiltrate something like that?

A. You build trust with the Vice President of Marketing for about five years prior, and take it from there

Q. orangeblob - If you had to quantify it, how 'on-target' are fan speculations regarding player movement, scale of 1-10?

A. A solid 5. Player movement can sometimes be determined by details that have less to do with talent, and more about personal behavior, ability to take direction or conforming to team rules. With that said, I would also submit there are several posters here who could do as competent, or better, a job as the executives watching from the sidelines.

hmmmm. could you tell us a little more about that one?

Briggs - projected, mock draft slots don't make players. Skill sets make players.
Yuck yuck yuck on McClinton. The Gonzaga kid someone mentioned would be fine

there should be interesting prospects around that area

Rodrigue Beaubois has a 6'10 wingspan
Taj Gibson has a 7'4 wingspan
Chase Budinger is a skilled guy that could fall
Wayne Ellington is 6'5 and can really hit the 3

McClinton sucks and $3mm is a good chunk of change for a lot of teams these days. Thats a waste of a good asset on a guy you can probably sign as a free agent

Q. Marv - could you tell us a little more about that one?

A. Certainly. JR Rider was engaging and friendly but had absolutely no valid excuse for being late to practice, Dikembe Mutombo needs a pedicure, and Lenny Wilkens does not like anyone in his office on game nights two hours prior to tipoff.

Love Him Or Hate Him, The Answer Man Always Has Something Indisputable and Entertaining

Stern: "...With the 29th selection in The 2009 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select Josh Heytvelt, Gonzaga...."

That is atleast reasonable--I would take Derrick Brown if he is there and Im interested who might fall

Isola mentioned they might be interested in Summers. If they go for someone like him, I don't see why they would not take Derrick Brown, instead. Green should also be available.

I would assume that we will pick differently depending on who we pick at 8.

I would be nice to pick up a few early 2nd round picks.

The fact that some have indicated we are interested in a player like Henderson, because he is ready to play right out of the box, indicates that the Knicks might prefer a more physically mature player like McClinton.

You forgot...Wake up Donny!! How can you settle for the 29th pick? You could have shed the contracts of Eddy or Jeffries using the $3Million.

seriously...

Learn through experience--small SGs are usually busts. If we spent that much money on him--I would say insane and shouldve given it to charity and found a pick around 45 for 2.5mm less. This is the Knicks showing off their wallet like they always do if this really is the pick.

He may be a little bit of a reach with a 1st round pick but the kid can play. I like him a lot. The other day you said he was "slow" - I mean that's rediculous. I was LMAO! It's obvious you've never seen this guy play. He's undersized and he's not a pure point but he's a very good little shooter/scorer, who's strong and fairly quick. He can shoot 3s at a very good clip with a good quick release and good form, can handle the ball (he played next to James Dews at Miami who did most of the ball-handling but that's not to say McClinton can't do it - I could see him bringing the ball up starting offensive sets part-time every game, absolutely) and he can get to the rim. Eddie House is a tremendous spot-up shooter but he's pretty one-dimensional. McClinton's much more versatile than that. I see a stronger version of Daniel Gibson but better, maybe closer to Barbosa. How good did Aaron Brooks look in the playoffs last year before Houston got eliminated? McClinton will be a useful NBA player. There's definitely a spot for him in this league.

Take a look at these clips against top competition (2 clips that I posted recently on another thread). These weren't 2 fluke games. He was doing stuff like this all year:

There is a reort on RealGM that we also gave up a #2 pick in 2011. That sucks if we did.

Dude this is not a fast athletic player--if you think so I imagine that you have never seen him play. This is Anthoiny Roberson part 2 with tad more toughness--19 points a game at 24 years old shooting 3s against 19-20 years old players--who cares? We went this route last year for 3mm_+ less.

Chad Ford's latest:
-- And with the Knicks buying the Lakers' pick at 29, I have them taking Florida State's Toney Douglas. GM Donnie Walsh is a big fan of Douglas, who is a great shooter and a terrific defender -- sort of a poor man's Ben Gordon. DaJuan Summers and Derrick Brown are other potential targets for the Knicks there.

Learn through experience--small SGs are usually busts. If we spent that much money on him--I would say insane and shouldve given it to charity and found a pick around 45 for 2.5mm less. This is the Knicks showing off their wallet like they always do if this really is the pick.

Yes real NBA athleticism shown at 1:12

What are you talking about? What clip at 1:12?? One was a straight-away 3 off a curl and the other was a semi-brakeaway layup vs. Clemson where he was ahead of the field. That's all you got from those clips? I don't know what to tell you my smug little friend...

Dumb move you have to give a guaranteed contract in a terrible draft. Get Portland 32 pick and you only guarantee one year.
Knicks buy pick #29
