Like I said earlier in this thread, I think this is a solid deal. We all know the story on Darko - he hasn't come close to living up to the hype of the 2nd overall pick, but I do think he still has a chance to be a good player. He's already a solid rebounder and shotblocker and now we'll see just how good MikeD and his staff are and see if they can Darko to be putting up 15ppg a game. If he does that in addition to 10 rebs and 2 blocks, that is a very solid player.

Thats the moral to this story...not Darko becoming Moses Malone all of a sudden when he joins the Knicks.

That's a good deal. I wish we could do that Darko + Pick 2 package for Pick 8, Mobley, Pick 28.

waaaaayyyyy too much for #2.

Are you nuts...way too much for the #2 pick and Darko?

LOL

As to this possible trade I think it's just fine regarding QBrick for Dorko. Darko will audition for a season and either walk away or be retained. Zero risk, possible reward for us. If it's an expanded deal to move up to #2 so be it but that is a separate story.

Another side story of possibly acquiring Darko is the Knicks feeling they can S&T David Lee. At least...that's something I see here.

Barring what might come back in trade, and knowing next year is still a wash since we are still tearing down Isiah's leftovers looking to build anew in 2010....

C-Darko
F-Harrington
F-Gallo or Chandler
G-Hughes or Chandler
G-Duhon

Is just fine given there are no expectations for next year.

Besides, we're all tired of watching QBrick stink....so at least it'd be something new to watch Darko stink.

And, again, it'd be an audition for Darko. Who knows, he might decide to care.

this is not franchise talent at #2. I mean, who are we talking about taking at the #2? Not Durant-esque. Who?

My thinking is that at #8 and #28, you can get 2 solid players, perhaps 2 long term starters at low salary. A big 2-way guard and a speedy PG with the #28.

Add in FA in 2010 and you got a team (with whatever Lee, Nate, Mobley, trade exceptions, and expirings can get you).

If we got Darko and Lebron, would it be the first time in history that the #1 and #2 picks from the same year played on the same team?

this team is full of solid players with no leaders, no stars. when we've gotten "stars" recently, they've been selfish players. rubio is an unselfish star who could well be a franchise PG.

i'd be thrilled to trade pick 8, 28 and mobley for him. i'd throw in chandler in an instant. you need the rubio type first. without the rubio type, the chandler type is useless.

i'd be happy to get s curry as well, but rubio changes the game and this team...

Rubio's potential is worth the trade. And we are really only giving up money for him. We are giving up an 8th pick, 28th pick (really $3 million) and Mobley's contract savings (just more money) for Rubio.

If we have to take Darko and give them Q, that is fine. But Darko has really sucked these past 2 years. Q is a much better BBall player than Darko!! Both of their salaries are way too high, and both have expiring contracts.....so no big deal on this. If we give them Q for Darko we actually save about $1.5 million times 2 for being over the Cap. So savings = $3 million.

agreed... for Rubio i would make that deal... i think other than Griffin he's probably got as good a shot to be a franchise changing player as any other in this draft... if we stay at #8 & #28 respectively, it's unclear if we could end up w/a player that can have that type of potential impact... i think we could probably get him at #3 or #4 tho & maybe not have to give up the #28 if we threw in the Mobley deal tho.

Orange does have a point about Darko, Larry Brown did ruin his early career. Just like he did with Ariza. And I'm cool with Chandler Mobley the 8th and the 28th for Darko and the 2nd. It gives us two usable players (at least) and it frees up playing time for Gallo.

Chandler too? no way i'm throwing in Chandler in that mix also... for Chandler & Mobley i'd be asking for the #2 & Darko straight up & hold onto my #8 & #28 picks.

Maybe that is too much, we could keep the 28. But your deal wouldn't get done, we have to give up something man. The 2 is worth more than swapping Darko for Chandler and some cash.

darko is NOT a good basketball player. y'all are drinking your own bukkake.

Darko turned 24 years old four days ago on June 20th.

He is a 24 year old with tremendous upside.

After three hopelessly lost years in Detroit, he had what was, effectively, his first two years in the league in Orlando where he was a decent contributor off the bench (compare his Orlando stats to Gortat's this past season). After Orlando he had 2 SOLID years in the garbage pit that is the Memphis Grizzlies-- putting up 8/6/1.5 in 20 minutes a game. Last season, as Memphis continued to fall apart, he saw less playing time and probably even more frustration.

If there is a system, a coach in this league that can salvage this guy it HAS to be MDA and our Knicks.

This guy is a PROSPECT more than an established player.

If we are able to get steal him away from the Griz, he has a good chance to contribute more in the upcoming season than most of our draft prospects, including Rubio and maybe Curry.

He is a fresh 24, a skilled offensive player, a shot blocker with a mean streak, and he is hungry to right his career. This is (would be) an awesome, awesome addition.

edit:

Darko, 06-07, Orlando
80 23:53 3.1 6.9 45.4 0.0 0.0 0.0 1.8 2.9 61.3 1.8 3.7 5.5 1.1 1.6 0.6 1.8 2.7 8.0

Gortat, 08-09, Orlando
63 12:35 1.7 3.0 56.7 0.0 0.0 100.0 0.4 0.7 57.8 1.5 3.0 4.5 0.2 0.4 0.3 0.8 1.8 3.8

And Gortat is a full year older.

I'm not saying Gortat is good or anything, but considering the love he was getting here, I'm surprised that we aren't ecstatic at the prospect of Darko.

You his agent or something? The dude sucks. He will be out of the league or at most the 12th man on an NBA team when his contract runs out. Being young doesn't mean squat. He just doesn't have the talent or desire to be the best. He is what he is at this point and you take what you can get. Trying to make him out to be something he isn't is foolish.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Subject: you're wrong

Body:

I'm not his agent, and he doesn't suck as I clearly demonstrated in the above post.

He DOES have the talent and youth DOES mean more than squat-- young people in their early, mid-20s are still learning and expanding their brains...he is expanding his and the Knicks would expand it so good.

I can't speak of his desire, but I can say that before he came to Detroit he was a happy guy, ecstatic to play in the League. After being CRUSHED, ABUSED, AND DISASSEMBLED by the EVIL SCROOGE LARRY BROWN, I think many people would have a tough time, especially at that age and in a new country, coming back to full mental health. MDA can cure his mental.
