ok why is Josh Smith's contract bad? I think dude is making about what he should...

question is....is david lee worth what Josh Smith is getting? everyone seems to think the Lee is worth more that what Josh is getting.

D'antoni would have Josh Smith going back door all day....get Josh Smith...get a point guard...get Curry in shape...get in the playoffs with Josh, Al, Curry, Gortat, Wilson, Gallo, Duhon, Hughes, and a drafted point guard...Go Knicks!!!!

Josh Smith salary per year is

08/09 - $10,000,000

09/10 - $10,800,000

10/11 - $11,600,000

11/12 - $12,400,000

12/13 - $13,200,000

Yikes!! DLee does not deserve the same money either.

Actually never mind about Smith, That 6mil trade kicker which I keep forgetting about would raise his salary like 16,17,18 mil per season over the next few yrs.

Or does the trade kicker only affect the yr he was traded??

the trade kicker is that he gets $6M immediately, I don't think it over and beyond the price of $10M.

So what your saying is, it wouldn't add to his 10mil salary, he would just get 6mil upfront?

That does make more sense, I thought the trade kickers added money to a player contract all these yrs.

T08/09 - $10,000,000

09/10 - $10,800,000

10/11 - $11,600,000

11/12 - $12,400,000

12/13 - $13,200,000

If we used Curry as bair, it doesnt worsen the 2010 sweepstakes & their salaries matchup.
Namely, $33mm. For $33mm, I'd want their # 19 pick.

Me too... and it does make more sense because the point of a kicker is to make the owner feel the trade

Bump the trade kicker

In two years Wilson Chandler will be in high demand and Josh Smith will be on his third team in as many years

The New York Knicks need a 6'11 with a lithe body who can run and rebound

All you need to know about Smith is that Harrington had to talk to him about keeping his head into games and staying focus.

Pharzeone - That is all anyone needs to know

Donnie Walsh has his eyes trained on much bigger fish than Josh Smith. You don't trade Jamal, Zach, Tim Thomas, Mardy, and hold back on signing David Lee for a shot at Josh Smith.

No Sir.

If curry is swapped for Smith, it doesn't hurt the LBJ pursuit.

Please Explain

purple012870 - which Curry are you talking about? Certainly NOT Eddy Curry. If so, why do the Atlanta Hawks, who passed on signing Curry two years ago after a full two day audition in Atlanta, do this now?

Joe n josh are better than anyone we have. There just not leaders by any stretch. I would josh over lee and al anyday of the week, and how can al tell anyone about keeping there head in the game. Every time his name comes up I think of this monkey hanging on the rim and costing us games.josh is not savior but an upgrade by far. You people forget spree choke his coach, like a change of enviroment doesn't help.

isn't easier to just buy league pass and watch hawks games?

like earl said...if all this is for joe + josh, then might as well find another team to watch...

why do the Hawks acquire Eddy Curry now?

a) a 2 year hope to catch lightning in a bottle at $20mm beats a $53mm committment who has worn out his welcome
b) it opens up the sidekick spot for Marvin Williams
c) the trade saves ATL $33mm
d) that $ may be used towards Joe Johnson

DJ never ask for both, one would be sufficient enough. I actually have league pass and from what I see, there biggest problem is motivation and chemistry.

Yikes!! DLee does not deserve the same money either.

From Larry Coon:

84. How do trade bonuses affect the salary cap and trades?
For the salary cap, the value of a trade bonus is applied to the team salary among the remaining years of the contract

Therefore with 4 guaranteed years remaining and a 6mil trade kicker you must add 1.5 mil per roughly each year.

09/10 - $10,800,000 is now 12.3

10/11 - $11,600,000 is now 13.1

11/12 - $12,400,000 is now 13.9

12/13 - $13,200,000 is now 14.7
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

The Answer Man Wants to Know What Do You Mean "you people"?

knicks1248 - I think of this monkey hanging on the rim and costing us games

(cough) SFX: buzzer

knicks1248 - josh is not savior but an upgrade by far.

AM - Josh Smith is a sidegrade if I ever saw one. Upgrade by far? No. An upgrade by far is Kobe Bryant.

knicks1248 - You people forget spree choke his coach, like a change of enviroment doesn't help.

Answer Man - and Spree returned to The Garden to curse Dolan in front of everyone seated courtside. Now, he is sitting on a boat somewhere on Lake Superior with a bunch of past payments due. So what is your point?
