Better question is, is Stephen Curry the next Channing Frye? Will we all hype him up and be excited that he falls to us only to see him flame out and become a bench player?
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

No. Frye isn't on Curry's planet in terms of quality.

GEEZ I can't believe that people are still saying crap like Curry is no Nash!!! Nash wasn't any better a player out of college than Curry is right now. Do you really think Curry is that far off talent wise that MDA isn't going to be able to get him to at least perform as a winning PG in the NBA? MDA had Duhon looking great with his limited ability, so why wouldn't Curry excel under him?

I think MDA is Top flight coach that regularly gets the most out his players. MDA gets max performance from his best players. Nash was good but he clearly got supersized by MDA!!! That's what I expect from Curry or Jrue or whoever we get.

If he doesn't there may very well be a better talent available when the Knicks pick. Locking in on a name and not recognizing the potential opportunity to steal a talent that slips or might not be the perfect player for your coaches "system' is a big mistake. The Knicks have used this philosophy for the last few years and aside from Chandler it has backfired.

Yea but how many teams 'lock in on a name' every year? A lot. It's not necessarily a bad thing. To say that there is 'potential opportunity' is stating the obvious; there is potential in every player in the draft. The draft is an orchestrated crapshoot.

I totally disagree. You lock in on a guy when you have a top 3 pick after that you have to access and react. The Knicks have missed out on alot of good players because of this and they also have weakened their ability to make a trade. The Knicks have been linked to Curry since before any of the workouts. I think you sell yourself short if you commit to your guy in the beginning of May and let everyone else know it.

I hope this kid doesn't last and the decision is taking away from the knicks all together.

Look I don't know if this kid can play the point or be an Allstar in the NBA. What I do know is that Curry is not the type of player we are hoping for in 2010. These teams who free agents we want didn't go into the draft looking for the safe pick. So all I want to know is with players in the draft who are younger, bigger, and faster, why are the knicks focused on making the safe pick???

are you sure about that?

College career

Although Nash's high school coach, Ian Hyde-Lay, sent letters of inquiry and highlight reels on Nash's behalf to over 30 American universities, Nash was not recruited by any university,[7] until Santa Clara University head coach Dick Davey requested video footage of the young guard. After watching Nash in person, Davey said he "was nervous as hell just hoping that no one else would see him. It didn't take a Nobel Prize winner to figure out this guy's pretty good. It was just a case of hoping that none of the big names came around." However, Davey told Nash that he was "the worst defensive player" he had ever seen.

Nash was awarded a scholarship by Santa Clara for the 1992–93 season. At that time, it had been five years since the Broncos appeared in the NCAA tournament. That changed when Nash led the Broncos to a West Coast Conference (WCC) title and an upset win over the No. 2 seeded Arizona Wildcats in the first round of the 1993 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.[7] In that game, Nash scored six straight free throws in the last 30 seconds of the contest. Although Santa Clara was defeated by Temple University in the next round, the 1992–93 campaign was considered a successful one. However, the Broncos failed to sustain the momentum the following season, and only managed a 5–7 record in the conference.[7] The team rebounded in 1994–95, with Nash being named Conference Player of the Year and the Broncos topping the WCC.[7] Featuring the league leader for scoring and assists in Nash, the Broncos returned to the NCAA tournament, but they were defeated by Mississippi State University.[7] After the season, Nash contemplated turning professional, but decided against it when he learned that he would probably not be considered a first-round pick in the 1995 NBA Draft.[7]

In the 1995–96 season, Nash began attracting the attention of the national media and professional scouts. He had spent the summer before that honing his skills, playing with the national team and working out with the likes of established NBA players Jason Kidd and Gary Payton.[7] Santa Clara again captured the WCC title, and for the second consecutive year, Nash was named Conference Player of the Year, the first Bronco to do so since Kurt Rambis.[9] He scored 28 points in leading the #10 seed Broncos to a first round upset win over #7 seed Maryland, but then the Broncos were eliminated by University of Kansas. Nash's performances ensured that he was named Honorable Mention All-America as a senior by The Associated Press and the USBWA. He also finished his career as Santa Clara's all-time leader in career assists (510), free-throw percentage (.862), and made and attempted three-pointers (263–656).[9] He remains third on the school's all-time scoring list (1,689), and holds Santa Clara's single-season free-throw percentage record (.894).[9] In September 2006, Nash had his jersey (#11) retired, becoming the first Santa Clara student-athlete to receive that honour.[11]
