Kobe is a work in progress regarding his punk act.

This season he seems to be more in control than his jerk act.

Tough to compare eras, but if I had to choose from the two in their prime I take Michael hands down. He played in a tougher league, with tougher defense and yet shot at a higher efficiency. To this day, there is nobody that can dominate down the stretch of a game. If you needed a basket he was going to get it. It was a travesty that he did not win more than 1 defensive player of the year. He was the best defender in the league during his era. I can't disparage Kobe because he's obviously great and in the conversation but his three titles were won with Shaq. Shaq was in his prime and the most dominant player in the league. More dominant than Kobe is right now. Shaq also won finals MVP all three times. Shaq was not Kobe's Pippen. Kobe was Shaq's Pippen. Michael won 72 games with Luc Longley as center. If you paired him up with Shaq in his prime they may have been the only undefeated team ever. Until Kobe wins 3 or 4 more leading his own team than I can't say he's as good as Jordan.

Odom is sorta like a poor man's Pippen, but MJ never had a bigman option like Gasol & was still able to win 6 championships while taking 2 seasons off in his prime... i highly doubt Kobe will be able to repeat that feat w/this current Lakers team.

u can't compare Kobe's years w/Shaq to MJ's years w/Pippen... Shaq was a dominant player those years when the Lakers won those championships... Pippen can't compare.

Kobe's an alltime great player but MJ he is not... not yet anyway.

imo pippen was truly a great player. but he bitched himself out for eternity by refusing to go onto the court for that final play in msg.

Why sre we comparing Kobe and Mike when we should be comparing Mike vs. Lebron?
Lebron will be the greatest player to ever live. We never saw a player like Lebron before. Oscar R was great but he did not have the size or the speed of Lebron. Lebron's #'s will not be close to anybody when he is done playing. Mike is the man but you can take anybody to ever play the game and compare them to Lebron now at his current age....it's not even close.
Lebron will be the greatest to ever do it.....period end of report.

would you compare shaq to mike? no.

lebron is in a different league, he's like a power forward. plus lebron has been nothing but a baby so far and it will take a lot to change that, imo.

because Kobe's team (which had a million times the talent of Lebron's) made it to the finals this year IMO. I agree fully with your point, though. I think in 10 years from now people will not even take seriously any Kobe-Michael discussions but will be having serious Lebron-Michael discussions.

no, you can't, lebron micheal discussions are invalid because one is a guard and the other is almost a center, physically.

you gotta be kidding me. he's not even among the best at his own position. you got russell, chamberlain and jabbar to begin with. THEN you can start considering him against the next tier of heavy hitters.

Lebron is comparable to Kobe very easily.
Let's be honest, Kobe sucked when he came in the league.
Mike was a ball hog when he came in the league.
Lebron came in the league with so much hype and for him to live up to that hype is something you've never seen anyone do.
Lebron will have more everything than Mike...that includes more scoring titles, MVP's and whatever you can think of.
Look what Lebron did in the ECF this year....he averaged (up until the last game) like 42 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds....Mike or Kobe never did anything like that.
He is not a ball hog at all.
Like I said, he will be the greatest to ever do it.

You can't hold his physical build against him. One played SG and the other plays SF. More importantly, they both play like guards who create all the offense.

Shaq ALMOST compares because of the one aspect each bought to the game which was a differnt set of athletic freakyness. Chamberlain was that first athletic seven footer big enought to dominate, Russell was the first defensive center that could just flat out run and jump, Jabbar the graceful fundamentalist, and Shaq unstoppable raw power.

Swap out Shaq into the era of those others and he would be as dominant if not more!

But he wasn't, so I agree he cannot stay on that elite shelf of players that redefined the game.

I think the only fair thing is to say you can pick one of the two for your special all time team and I think most would pick Jordan perhaps based on a few intangables.

Kobe then is on the shelf with the Oscar Robertsons, the Jerry Wests, The Magic Johnson and Larry Birds-olajuawan, Ewing, Erving, Moses Malone, Karl Malone, and all the HOF's. There are the ones with bling and the ones without.

Still a very very good shelf to be on!!

That top shelf is: Wilt, Jordan, Kareem, Russell. These are the "gods of the NBA"!

The rest you can argue on. Those four are not approachable. In my opinion!
