Just out of curiosity: What would it take to trade up to take Rubio? Our pick plus, um, Nate and Duhon? I don't think that would do it. I'm sure Rubio has been discussed at length but I'm late to the party. His clips are amazing. I'm sure he'd have problems with D in the NBA but, wow, I've never seen a 19 year old guard with his skills/speed/game. If anyone is worth trading up for, I'd say it's Rubio.
except setting up any deal involving nate or lee for a draft pick we want would have to take place after July 9th (when you can sign free-agents), not before or during the draft. even if we get the #3 pick that makes things VERY complicated for a variety of reasons:
1) you would have to to find out if nate would even be willing to go to whatever team has the #2 pick, which he would be under no legal obligation to do and could backfire
2) Nate + Duhon (or without him) + rights to our pick is going to mean we are going to have to also get players from the other team to match salaries, which is a major ? (maybe they don't need/want Duhon).
3) I highly doubt we are going to trade Duhon & Nate for Rubio, not even counting the pick, because while i really like Rubio, there is no way that the Knicks are going to go into next season with him as THE only real PG on the team, when the clear objective is to make the playoffs next year, ESPECIALLY since in all likelihood Utah will have our pick (unless we give them it this year).
Basically, if we get the #3 pick, and want to "move up" using nate or lee it will have to be a separate deal that has isn't really moving up, but more like trading the rights to our pick + whoever for the rights to (I will assume is) Rubio + whoever.
