You know what sucks? They take away the handcheck rule and now there are literally no back to the basket players. Shouldn't young players be developed to take advantage of this?

Let me add this in--I cant stand the tattoos. Call me old--but why do these guys use their bodies as doodling pads? It's a person willing to be a follower and it's aesthetically displeasing. You have one or two tattoo's--I'm cool with that. You have 500 you look like a F idiot.

It's cultural thing.
Native Americans, Native Australians, African Tribes, criminal gangs, and NBA players are into this culture.
It helpes to express the personality when other ways of doing this not developed yet...

Im sorry I mustve missed the last 200mm years on this planet. One idiot covers himself with tattoos 10 years ago--the next guy follows and its a trend. It's a really stupid trend and the idiots making themselves look like a billboard will be crying 10-15 years from now. The dermatologists will be having field days.

What someone does with his or her own body is their choice. Why do you care?

True, but it still looks like Sh*t when it gets out of hand, and examining why some groups do this to their body is a legitimate thing to discuss.

I wonder if they would be doing it as much as they do now if BB players wore long sleeve shirts when they played. Do baseball and football players have as many tatoos as basketball players?

Ironically, earrings (for men) and tatoos were once a symbol of non-conformity. Now, as Briggs points out, it is just the opposite.

You see this kind of behavior in HS, where earrings no longer set guys off as different, so they are piercing every other part of their body to express their "individuality." Kind of sad and pathetic at the same time.

Great point, man. It is to some degree a failure of the intellect when one chooses to be 'different' by defacing their own body. Instead of striving to develop their minds, kids (who are influenced in some part by professional athletes) are choosing to splatter ink on and put holes in their bodies.

So this is why people should care, why a community should care what people do to their bodies.

Where do I start on that one? Well I care about my country--that is a good start. I don't like my kids looking at it--I don't like ANY kids looking at it. To me it shows signs of a either a low intellect and or self esteem[maybe both]--a follower mentality--a lack of self-discipline. It's very disturbing trend. Sould I care if a kid walks into a school and shoots 30 other kids just because it's not my town? Well I think this in the same walk--the start of the walk. I posted this under degradation--because what I see is self-degradation and a lack of respect in a big sense when I see someone covered into tattoos. I think that in 10-20 years many of these same individuals will be asking why did I do that when they have problems with Hepatitis and anything else we might not know right now--not counting what their skin will look like. I don't like it and I know millions of people don't like it and I would like to see the trend diminish.

what do you think someone's state of mind is when they're doing this? what are they saying to themselves? what's their motivation as they're experiencing it?

i'm not seeing it that way. i'm thinking guys are making very definitive and impassioned statements.

there are so many guys in the league who are heavily tattooed. different personality types. different backgrounds. different levels of status in the league and along the spectrum of "star" status to fans/public/media/marketing.

Maybe once or twice--but not 400 times. If you feel the need to mark your body 400 times there is something going on that isnt clicking.

Does the same go for touting the same prospect 400 times?

Definitive and impassioned statements can be made by any living creature on earth. The human mind is unique. Making these 'impassioned' statements reflects a backwards mentality, a failure of man.

I think Lebron followed a trend at a young age. I don't know if Lebron came from another avenue of life if he would be covered with tattoos. I personally think it's a disturbing trend.
