Remember on thing Isiah ain't giving up his big salary for a little college salary. You better beleive that there was a deal made by Dolan and Isiah before he took the job. He is not giving up 14mil left for a 1 mil per year if he is lucky. You better believe that he was partially bought out. Maybe the Dolans gave him 9 mil to leave. Or maybe Zeke is still running things on the down low.

Until a report surfaces saying otherwise the only thing anyone can assume is what we have been given. Isiah has left the Knicks to pursue a coaching job at FIU. If that is all there is to it then yes Isiah gave up the remainder of his contract to move on.

If the Knicks cut a deal with him then so be it. If they had you would think there would have been something written about it for it would be big news even if he has been swept under Dolan's carpet for almost a year now.

That would really suck, because I'm pretty sure that counts against our cap.

So Isiah signed for 5 years.
Isola seems to think he is still getting 7M per year from the Knicks.

There has not been any official announcement on how Isiah has exactly parted ways with the Knicks and how his contract has been handled.

I was under the impression that if you are not fired, are not bought out, and leave the team to pursue another job that you are effectively resigning from that team. Maybe that's only if you're going to another NBA team?

I don't know nobody has come out and said exactly what has gone on with the contract.

...and before you think 'no big deal either way' just understand if Isiah did indeed give up two years 14M (or whatever it is) that this would potentially be incentive for Dolan to give Walsh more leeway in potentially making Knick deals. So it is of value and interest.

Former Knicks coach Thomas accepts FIU job

If they agree to drop the "I" from that acronym, then the man has found his calling.

I say we organize a road trip to go to an FIU away game dressed in Knicks gear, and get the home team to start chanting "Fire Isiah" with us... I'm not bitter or anything

Alright, so wait a minute, when Walsh "relieved" Isiah of duties and appointed him as an international scout, keeping him on the Knicks, he was also actually fired and paid his salary?

Something really doesn't wash here....and I'd like if anyone finds to post a competent article explaining what really went on with Isiah and his Knick contract.

MIAMI -- Here's a sign of how badly Isiah Thomas wanted to return to coaching: He's working for free at Florida International.

At his introductory news conference at FIU on Wednesday, Thomas said his salary the first year from the Golden Panthers will be donated back to the school's athletic department.

Thomas was fired by the New York Knicks last year. The team still owes him around $12 million for the final two years of his deal there.

FIU athletic director Pete Garcia said that when Thomas learned about layoffs and budget cuts, he told the university president that the school should keep his salary.

Isiah was apparently interviewed (grilled) on ESPN earlier today.

Here's a summary from another forum:
He was asked about the "Suicide attempt"
- He said that he did take sleeping pills, and was rushed to the hospital, His daughter was also in the hopital the same day, and that reporters changed the story up.

- Said he will be working for free, the first season. Knicks are still paying him.

- Tim Hardaway may join his staff.

- Said he's turned down a couple of NBA coaching jobs.

That's basically it.

So now I really am confused. Anyone else?

We were led to believe he was re-assigned within the Knick org, still under contract, and still 'working' for us.
Word surfaces he was probably outright fired and will get all his money from the Knicks.
Isiah said he's being paid by the Knicks still.

So...after all this, Dolan is actually paying Isiah to coach for FIU?

...I think I just made one of those "faces" combined with a weird shake of the head.

I give up LOL

Listen to this... the latest is the Isiah is going to donate his salary to the FIU athletic dept per RealGM.

Wow. That's desperation.

That's two awesome examples of having two players that are awesome to watch then you kind of hope they disapear from the face of the Earth once they retire b/c they are those types of people. Isiah has made remarks that are argueable racist and Tim Hardaway ADMITS to be racist towards gays. These guys are going to be taking care of boys for four years and they are going to be going into their families houses to convince their families why they should come to their school.

That's as ugly as it gets.

gotta give guys another chance --- within reason of course. Thats the human spirit. Hopefully they have grown from their missteps. Its not as if they have done something beyond the pale.

And this is a very homophobic nation, so its hard to really go after Tim that hard. He was ostracized and punished.

He was fired as coach but his contract was based on coaching. When Dolan fired Brown he just had him assume the duties as head coach as well to save on the Brown firing. His money is still based on his contract as general manager. If he would have taken a NBA job it would have voided is contract with the Knicks.

Walsh also fired/removed Tripucka from his scouting duties but MSG reassigned him to telvision analyst.

I wouldn't bother... we all know that Isiah is a straight up liar, and Dolan is his boy. Walsh is smart enough to not get involved. Isiah will lie, we'll al know he's lying, but no one will call him out. That's the way it is

Yeah and he does a good job of it in the interview. It's finally posted.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4070376

About 6:30 in (or 7:00 to go) is where they start grilling him about the Knicks, the pills, the harassment suit, etc.
