I like Randolph as did many people here. I don't mind his tantrums on the bench as I love fire compared to passivity. But I will not agree about Gallo Briggs. He clearly is not the athlete but he is a team leader and has a head on his shoulders. He is the best shooter on this team and that is at 60%! Watching his tapes and hearing reports from people he played with, it's pretty clear he is special. We just never got to see that cause he was hurt. What if Randolph was the one hurt and Gallo playing? We have to give the kid a chance. Both Randolph and Gallo need a few more years before we cry over spilled milk.

I would have loved to have Randolph, but I really do feel that Gallo is a very very special player. Randolph may turn into an incredible player but he is not the type to raise those around hims game as Gallo is. To compare the players, I see it like this:
Gallo - HUGE advantage in shooting, passing, IQ and being a "glue" guy. You can see he played pro ball for years.
Randolph - Huge advantage on defense and athletic ability (I think Gallo will outscore him, albeit in a different way (inside and out)).

excellent post.. briggs when he is on his soapbox about players he likes, will make it cut and dry.. Player X is a better athlete than player Y, so he is better.. But if it were the other way around, he would be talking ball IQ and intangibles... Briggs agenda is clear.. Gallo was hurt and still had a better rookie season than a lot of guys behind him.. If briggs really wanted to argue this fairly, he should be talking about us taking batum, who so far seems to be a player that would also flourish in Dantoni's system..

IMO Chandler is better for this system than Batum... Batum is an interesting prospect but he's much too weak of a rebounder to be a legit option at the SF position... Gallo is a better shooter than he is too IMO.

This cant degenerate into a Gallo vs. Randolph thing because its going to get testy. We obviously have an incomplete picture in terms of what we have with Gallo, at this point, so its imperative that we still give him a shot. That said, I dont think there is any question that I would feel more comfortable with Randolph in NY instead of Gallo.

Lets be real, Randolph isnt coming off back surgery. Just cant argue that and even though he is putting up numbers in the extended garbage time that is the Warriors season, its clear that the kid can ball. Chandler did the same thing last year --- we knew we had something with him even though the games were meaningless. I wont marginalize Randolph's numbers.

This could easily change next year --- Gallo might prove superior, but at this point...

In any event, this doesnt have anything to do with Marrow vs. Roberson. Was Marrow hard to find? Yeah, but somebody did, so why couldnt it have been us? Roberson was just a waste of time --- thats distressing because we gave a deal to somebody that has no business in the league and it could really speak to D'Antoni's 3 point shot tunnel vision. He cant simply ignore everything else.

But batum is playing well. Briggs is talking about how much we missed out on players, but is only concentration on randolph, when guys like batum has been getting meaningful playing time on a playoff team.. He would have fit this system well, and considering that he is a pretty good defender who is very long and athletic, he would have been a really nice fit.. but I agree, offensively gallo is the superior player, espeically shooter, as he is over randolph as well...

but you can also say the same things about gordon and batum, both who are having good seasons. Briggs has an agenda because he is trying to pat his own back with randolph and I think it is silly. If you look at it, we could have used gordon and batum as well, gordon having the better season and with minutes batum has put up nice numbers on a playoff team.. If you want to give a real honest argument, stop trying to push randolph down our throats while degrading gallanari, who has been hurt, yet while hurt, has shot over 45% from the field and behind the arc and has displayed a good amount of skills and bball IQ... Fine, he like randolph, but this whole thing has gotten beyond ridiculous... There are several guys who I think gallanari will be better than, that at this current point could have helped us more... of course any decent healthy player is more useful than even a good player on IR. It really has become a ridiculous argument..

to be fair to BRIGGS Anthony Randolph has definitely shown more in his rookie season as far as promise than Gallo has... it's still not a given that he's gonna be a can't miss stud obviously & it's way too early to cast any final judgements on how we may or may not have messed up on that pick... i still have high hopes for Gallinari... i think he's gonna be a good player, but that's just based on a limited scope of games & obviously he could end up to be a bust of a pick if he can't stay healthy for any length of time... hopefully his surgery goes well & he comes in next season ready to show more of what he's got to offer.

Also notice---since Gentry was hired---Steve Nash is probably playing the best ball of his career--he's playing better than his MVP years since the hire. I thought it was Mike D that made Steve nash so good or maybe Steve Nash is just great with any coach who lets him be him?

Have to disagree here Briggs. Gentry is running MikeD's offense. How can you use that as a knock against MikeD?
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
