Every time we get to a certain level, the professor, Vince Carter, is there to teach us that we're not even close.
We need to seriously target oversized, over athletic players in the mold of Boston, Cleveland, Atlanta, Orlando, and Philly.
Evans - Thabeet - Warren - Sanders - Christmas - Derozan - Maynor
Come on Donnie - get 'er done
if the knicks become buyers, they could have a backcourt of nash/vince next season.
I'd fully endorse a smart plan that involves the Knicks becoming buyers in a sellers market. There is too much talent to be had at low prices.
I want LeBron here as much as anyone, but if we have a shot to get some very good players right now, I think we have to take it.
that all depends on what players u'r talking about... players like Bosh, Amare, Paul, Howard, Kobe, etc... these are guys worth giving up any cap flexibility in 2010 for... u don't go all in on guys like Vince Carter... that's the same kinda logic that landed us Zach Randolph a couple years ago... Vince is not gonna get u where u want to be.
You definitely have to be smart about it.
You can bring Vince in if you get some above average talent at the other positions too. Doesn't just have to be Kobe or Paul, you can get a lot of very good players together and build a contender that way too.
if we target players like Vince, Redd, Odom, G Wallace, etc. we're just repeating the same stupid mistakes we made to get us into this crappy ass cap situation to begin with... remember Glen Rice? remember Stephon Marbury? remember Fugazy? remember Eddy Curry? remember Jamal? remember Zach Randolph? let's not be stupid & sacrifice the 2010 plan for players we know will not take us anywhere near to where we wanna get to.

TMS, Isiah's strategy of using ending contracts for talent wasn't a bad one, he just executed it very poorly by not bringing in players that fit well together.
That is why I keep emphasizing that you have to be smart about it. We're not talking about another Isiah situation here, we are talking about taking advantage of the market right now. Donnie should use Dolan's wallet as an advantage if he gets the opportunity to do so.
I'm not saying we should sacrifice the 2010 plan for just Vince Carter and Gerald Wallace, however, I do think it would be wise to take advantage of the market if some very good players (that would fit our roster) become available for a cheap deal.
The 2010 plan is fine, but to attract guys like LeBron and Bosh you need good enough talent to convince him to come. I think its foolish to put all of our eggs in one basket and basically let the 2010 FA market decide the fate of our franchise. Hell, if Walsh can get creative, maybe he can find a way to keep the 2010 plan in tact and still bring in a star before that (Nash anyone?).

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)
