Anytime you have a young player that has shown he is an above average player in this league, you do whatever you can to resign him. Nate has taken a huge step forward this season and I honestly don't see why we shouldn't resign him at this point (unless some team makes a crazy offer). Lee is another guy you have to resign because young big men that can put up 16 ppg, 12 rpg, and shoot over 50% don't grow on trees.

I think Fish said it perfectly. You have to resign these guys and address the other team's weaknesses. Guys like Nate and Lee will have value in this league even after they are resigned and you can always use them to plug in other holes.

Sessions looks like a good find (BRIGGS has been plugging him for awhile) but it just wouldn't make much sense to resign Nate and Lee and THEN try to sign Sessions on top of that. Donnie will not jeopardize 2010 for Sessions.

If you let Nate walk, its a different story. But I think right now, the priority is to resign Nate and Lee to reasonable deals and build off of that.

In the Isiah days we would take flyers on guys to basically try to notch the talent level up and up and up without a real plan. We ended up with a bunch of talented dudes who didn't fit together at all.

I hope we're past that. We already have Duhon. Giving another PG the midlevel this year would be a bad sign.

Spot on...this is a classic Isiah move that looks good on paper, but doesnt have a long term goal in mind.

The long term goal is for him to start...long term. He would be the starting PG when we are a good team again. I don't think it's a hard concept to grasp.

it is when you have a guard here that puts up 20/7/5 on 45% and gets a bunch of steals everytime he starts and he's 24 years old. For me its a very hard concept to grasp.

When he doesnt start he's only giving you 18/4/4

Because he can't run an offense he right way. Marbury averaged 8 assists a game and he was never a facilitator. Having Nate as your starting PG is a big mistake. Plus Nate is an awful defender.

funny... three teams said the same thing about Chauncy Billups trading him for nothing until he eventually signed a MLE deal.

So your comparing Nate to MArbury? Nate is still certainly learning the position, but he's doing well. Plus Nate is simply more talented than Sessions. Sessions hasnt proved anything and you want to turn the PG duties off to a less talented player? Still dont get it.

Nate is a very disruptive player on defense also. How many crunch time steals does he have to get before people stop labeling him a terrible defender?

I dont get the mindset of signing less talented unproven player to a long contract and letting one thats home grown walk away.

Sorry, but I disagree.

Session is like the flavor of the week around here. He will never be any better than the guys he's surrounded by. Nate can do a lot of things that only star players in the league can do. Yes he needs to be more consistant and improve certain things but I will stick with the better player, thats OUR player thats proven more

You don't necessarily need a pass-first PG to win (e.g. see Chauncey).

As long as the guys play under a team concept, that is all you need. Nate definitely needs to be a little more unselfish when he has the ball (the guy never passes to Gallo for some reason). At the same time though, he has shown the ability to get some open looks for other players. Its silly to think that Nate can't continue to improve in that area.

EDIT- Guess Fish beat me to it.
