"Thabeet would still be about 6'10" using this formula. I was mostly using it for him, and I was just trying to illustrate that his most legitimate "skill" is his height."

Yep and I don't disagree. For him maybe more so then most players height is his skill but it is a huge part of all players "skill". It just got me thinking about who would still be in the NBA if they were that much shorter. Just an interesting hypothetical question.

Centers all have their strengths and weaknesses. Camby could have been playing out the twilight of his career at this point, getting ready to hang his number in the rafters as one of the best Knicks ever, but that ship has sailed.

Jordan Hill is probably more balanced than most. Thabeet would have a big impact here if he's a great rebounder or not. If all he does is set picks and block shots, we can use other players as shooters and rebounders.

If we go by the MikeD blueprint and you had Thabeet at Center, you'd have all 6'6" to 6'10" guys at all of the other spots, so the boards will come.

If you had Chandler, and LeBron at the wings and Thabeet at center you'd be holding teams in the 70's a lot of nights.

Does anyone watch how the Knicks all sag down on defense to help and then the ball gets kicked out to shooters who knock down three after three?

That would end abruptly with a player like Thabeet, McGee, Camby... lots of players could fill that role, but we need to get one.

My man crush is on Jennings or Warren. If we get one of them we can get a pick high enough to get Tulsa's Jordan later on to fill the pivot.

I would be so pumped to see a Knicks team with an explosive offense that still gave teams pause physically on the defensive end. Then you imagine adding a Max player like LBJ to that team and you're in bizniz.

I dont care what Briggs says... his upside is Dalembert, NOT Mutumbo. His downside is Diop.

This is pretty accurate, but what do you mean by that?

Forget Thabeet, imagine playerX is coming into the draft and you're told that his upside is Dalembert, and his downside is Diop, where's he going to get drafted?

He's going to get drafted about where Thabeet is projected to go.

A second has been made on Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun's unofficial motion to tab Hasheem Thabeet as the Big East player of the year.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is on board with the decision. He is endorsing Thabeet's candidacy.

"He changes the game," Boeheim said after Thabeet had 16 boards, seven blocks and eight points in the 63-49 win over the Orange on Wednesday.

"You can't go near the basket," Boeheim said. "He scores enough and he rebounds. He dominates and he blocks shots. He blocked 14 points -- all layups. He scared us in at least seven more shots. That's 28 points. How valuable do you have to be? Some guy will score 26 points, is that guy more valuable than a guy who scares you away from 28 points? And he gets 16 rebounds as well as score a little. He's by far the most dominant player in our league.

“Thabeet, to me, might be the best player in the country,” Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez said. “I don’t know who has a better player than him, who has a more dominant guy than him in the country. He, to me, is the No. 1 player in America. In my opinion from what I have seen, you know I am not trying to push him out the door, have him go pro, but if I was an NBA franchise I would take him No. 1 in the draft.”

Nobody was arguing with Gonzalez on Saturday.

“He’s so tough you need a broom, you need some extra help,” said Seton Hall center John Garcia, who gave away 7 inches but had a career-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. “He is that talented, that athletic, that long. That is why he’ll be a lottery pick.”

nobody could complain if we drafted Thabeet - that's why I think he'll be gone

if you're a GM, how could you make a safer pick?

I don't think Washington takes him because they have all of the bigs already, and he won't get taken first, but rightafter that

I don't go near this kid. He plays like a child when he has to go up against men. He is soft and will get taken out of his game in the pros. No thank you.

I guess you guys are smarter than Jim Boheim who coached on the Olympic teams. I do know that when JC said Charlie V had a promise in the top 10 there was a lot of skeptical people on the Uconn boards including me. Picked 7 and he's very good. Same draft Andrew Bynum is not coming to Uconn because a top 10 team promised him a pick. Well of course any Uconn fan would have serious mixed emotions about that one--but if he ended up with the Knicks OK--nope Lakers 10. JC said on his show that he knows Hasheem is a top 5 but likely a top 2 pick depending who is there and he all but came out and said the team that has done the most due diligence on HT is Detroit. So we'll have to see where it goes but you have a lot of big time names who have been in the basketball business a long time disagreeing with you. I don't make much of it I know hes going top 3 so he's not going to be at pick 9 to consider.

No it's your opinion. I think it's a non issue--we're picking 9-10 and he won't be there.

Since we are picking 9-10 and he will go 3 I expect not to see any more threads created about this guy.

I was going to post that 2 days ago, but held back. I'm glad someone did though.
