The balkman deal was a little strange. I still think he brought something to the table and when paired with another player I think there was a trade there that could have been made to get rid of jefferies.

Wade is never leaving Miami, why would you. The quality of life is better, the weather is great, and your money doesn't evaporate like it does in new york.

Hopefully we continue to lose games and move up in the draft, that's the only way this plan really works. I just don't think we needed to trade for hughes and take up roster space with a player that needs minutes. I think Duhon, Chandler, Harrington, Gallo, Lee should be the starting lineup with nate off the bench. Really where does winning games get us other than farther away from where we need to be. Isiah decided to win his last few games and it cost us three spots in the draft.

Harrington and Duhon need to be traded for some value next offseason, in a packaged deal to bring back young talent.

Next Offseason? They'd be UFA's at that point. You'd better trade tehm at the deadline next year.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Maybe we should ask Shaq why he left.

He was traded?

The only Grading system that matters, The Bip System

Coach: Mike D’Antoni: I like what he has done to change the culture. The players and the GM get credit for this as well, but the coach leads it. This team quit more times over the past 3 years than I can remember. This year they have come to play everynight and have had a chance to win on most. Which leads me to my D'Antoni criticism. 60 games in and the team still makes the same mistakes down the stretch. Players and coach are to blame for that.

Grade: B-(for Mike), Incomplete(for Donnie)

Draft: Danilo gets an incomplete because all 1st year players get an incomplete. There were players that I'd rather have, but the kid deserves time. I would have liked to see Walsh obtain another draft pick and he was unable to do so. There are many reasons for this, but this doesn't change the grade.
Grade: C

Free Agents:

Chris Duhon: If I look at my expectations vs. results, I can't be unhappy with him. I see him as a career back-up with back up PG skills that has done a remarkable job taking advantage of his chance to start. He is a below average starter but a great back-up on a winning team. Hopefully we can get that starter.
Grade: B+

Anthony Roberson: Why are we grading a 15th man decision? 15th men are always a crapshoot.
Grade: F(for who gives a fukc)

Trades:

Zach Randolf/Mardy Collins for Tim Thomas/Cuttino Mobley
I'm not worried about what my speculation tells me we should have gotten. I'm just happy we got rid of this long-term salary which is what we needed to do.
Grade: A

Jamal Crawford for Al Harrington: Tough to grade this one. Al is a better player than Jamal. Will Al stay or be let go. If we are going let him go, it would have been nice to have gotten a pick for Craw or Al somehow.
Grade: B

Tim Thomas/Jerome James for Larry Huges: Freebie. We weren't winning with Tim or Jerome so who cares.
Grade: A for participation

Malik Rose for Wilcox: Why trade for the guy if he isn't going to play?
Grade: C(more geared towards mike than Donnie)

Marbury: We have no idea how this all went down. It is possible that D'antoni found out in his summer conversations that there was going to be a mutiny if Marbs played. Without being present in those conversations I find it hard to judge. I would have preferred to play up his value and somehow be able to trade him for something of value without taking back a horrible contract(easier said than done), but you can't always get what you want.

Grade: Unknown

Judgment: If this is about the future of Lee and Robinson, how can we grade something that hasn't happened yet.
Grade: Incomplete

Overall Grade: Incomplete. Hard to get a better grade this early in the game. Big positive was giving us some roster/financial flexibility. No major knocks on my part yet. The Gallinari thing could be a huge negative in the future if the kid doesn't develop. How they do in 2010 and what the response will be if they can't get a top name free-agent are also yet to be determined.

style of GMing is the key we need to be focusing on anyways.

I've been thinking about this

If we cant make the playoffs in this absolute shtty eastern conference NO one should be given a grade higher than C--and honestly take some time to think about that. there is NO way that Mike dantoni gets more than a C if he cant get these guys to play better than the Milwaukee Bucks who lose Bogut and Redd

Walsh gets a C---the draft was a C- the season was a D we didnt get any other draft picks the players we acquired in any trade wont be here past 2010 so they dont matter---so he gets a C for creating additional cap space for 2010--that cant be graded higher than C because we have to see the fruit that it yields. Duhon gets no grade because he wont be here past 2010

This franchise ACCEPTS mediocrity and until I see evidence that it doesnt----the NY Knicks will be average run of the mill sht team for a LONg arse time.
Pains me to say it

2011 Is The target date

Evaluating Donnie Walsh via arbitrary grades, during year one, is a waste of time. It is nothing more than premature second-guessing. Yes, guessing.

For entertainment purposes, let Walsh have an incomplete.

Enjoy The Ride

Dantoni--his coaching this year gets no more than a C at best. Poor defensive schemes and end of game coaching has been miserable. Pat Riley could take a team with half the talent and make the 8th seed this year.

Have the Knicks improved at all defensively as a team this year? What defensive scheme has D'Antoni implemented other than the incessant switching, even if it means getting stuck in really bad matchups?
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I don't think anyone can teach the Knicks how to play defense. Not Larry, Not anyone. These players don't care for defense. Lee is probably one of the worst interior defensive players in the league. Nate is small and clownish to be taken seriously on the defensive side. There is no interior presence. Basically put the team isn't structured for defense no matter who coaches them. Put it this way the Knicks could implement Celtics system and they would put it to shame because simple defense requires effort and the players are not willing to put out that effort. They weren't for Larry Brown, they weren't for Isiah. D'Antoni at least knows they won't be playing defense so might as well focus on the offensive side.

The Knicks have a bunch of clowns for players. This team needs an overhaul of the defensive variety. let Lee go and Nate too. Bring in long athletic players. David Lee is not a serious player, to me serious player play defense. This is why I want an overhaul of this team. The only players that I want back are Chandler and Gallo The rest could all go away.
