PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will sit out Wednesday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies because of a bone chip in his left knee.

Oden was hurt in a collision during a game at Golden State last Thursday. He was unable to play in the All-Star Weekend's rookie challenge.

The 7-foot center is listed as day to day. Team doctors are expected to evaluate his knee later Wednesday.

Oden, the top pick in the 2007 draft, sat out all of last season after microfracture surgery on his right knee. He missed six games at the start of this season with a foot injury.

they sure could use D Lee

If Aldridge is so good, why does Portland want Lee?

I mean, they have Oden & Aldridge up front. What more do they need?

They're obviously looking to add Lee's hustle behind Oden and Aldridge, or have him challenge one of the other two. 30-35 mpg would give them a great rotation, as each player brings something unique to the table. Like, the exact opposite of Randolph/Curry/James

Lets be serious- on what planet can the Blazers afford to have, at minimium, 30 mil tied into 3 players who can only play 2 positions for them? And then also have another future max guy like Roy?

Its not really a cost effective or realistic scenario for the Blazers to really covet Lee. Considering the minutes Oden and Aldridge should be playing for you, they'd be better off with some replaceable energy guy behind them.

they want a 3 big rotation of Oden, Aldridge, Lee.
So they give $10 mil a year to a 6th man? Are they planning to become the Yankees of basketball?

Paul Gardner Allen (born January 21, 1953) is an American computer programmer and entrepreneur who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates. Allen regularly appears on lists of the richest people in the world. In March 2008, Forbes ranked him as the 41st richest man in the world[2] while in September 2008, the magazine placed him 12th on its list of the richest Americans with a net worth estimated at $16 billion.[3]

He is the founder and chairman of Vulcan Inc., which is his private asset management company, and is chairman of Charter Communications. Allen also has a multibillion dollar investment portfolio which includes large stakes in DreamWorks Animation SKG, Digeo, real estate holdings, and more than 40 other technology, media, and content companies. Allen also owns three professional sports teams: the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League, the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association, and the Seattle Sounders FC franchise in Major League Soccer that will begin playing in the 2009 season

This guy can pay whoever he wants whatever he wants whenever he wants. LA and Oden are both on rookie pay right now too, so they can move one of the three when the situation warrants it, not to mention Oden is an injury risk.

The problem isn't salary, it's the fact that the Blazers seem to think Outlaw and Rodriguez is an acceptable offer for Lee

Yeah but do they really want to be over the cap just to have that front court rotation when they can spread that money out more efficiently elsewhere?

I don't really see Lee getting big money on the open market. Where is he going to get it.

He doesn't want to play in Memphis, the Thunder are set now and don't need to bring him in, the Blazers have no cap room. That really leaves the Pistons who I don't think are clearing cap space to bring him in. I think you could probably get the key for 8.5 for 5.

Now, this is a good point... and I don't know the answer to that. I guess the answer to that question depends on if ownership and management believes the team is a serious contender with Lee's addition...

Personally, I think if they could get Lee they'd try to flip some combo of Aldridge/Rodriguez/Outlaw and LaFrentz into Steve Nash or some elite point, and if not, Vince Carter/Richard Jefferson
