Briggs, repeat after me. Gallinari's minutes are limited because he still has a bad back. It's improved to the point where he can play off the bench, but his minutes have to be limited. You're an intelligent guy. Why is that concept so difficult for you to understand?

Sat, Feb 7 F Danilo Gallinari has been closely guarded of late. Opposing defenses are no longer allowing him wide-open looks from behind the arc, so the rookie has begun to put the ball on the floor. The only problem is he's dealing with a footwork issue. Gallinari has been called for traveling in each of the last two games despite taking off from a standstill.

(Yahoo! Sports)

I think we are judging him way' too soon. He's a rook, he has very limited minutes and we aren't exactly sure the extent of his back injury. Basing two games in a row for traveling violations isn't going to cut it.
I'll never trust this' team again.

You know, your right. It's not even a question right now. Let's wait for.....................one more game and if he doesn't give, then boot him.
I'll never trust this' team again.

There is no way a guy who is such a defensive liability can start on a team. As soon as he goes into the game the guy he is covering becomes the go to guy on offense. You can't say that about Q, Jeffries, Lee, or Chandler. He has a nice outside shot but he struggles handling the ball against NBA competition. All rookies face a learning curve and have to adjust to the NBA. My biggest concern with Gallo is that he is so far behind defensively and is playing for a coach who does not coach defense.

This is why he wasnt a 6 pick. If Ryan Andersen starts on a better team at the same age with less experience and has been performing well than why shouldnt OUR guy do that? He was a HIGH lottery pick????? Is his back any more balky starting then coming off the bench or do the Knicks not want his skills exposed against tier one players in the NBA?

There have been a lot of rookies who turned out to be very good but didn't play that many minutes their rookie year.
Kobe Bryant 15min a game rookie year
Alan Houston 19min a game rookie year
Jermaine O'Neil 10min a game rookie year
Norwitzki 20min a game rookie year

Considering how much time he missed I don't think it's unreasonable to bring him along slowly.

my 5 year old son has more patience than you Briggs. Its a process.

I am guessing you dont have a garden at home... or a chia pet. I can picture you planting the seeds, watering them then after 4 minutes of watching walking away yelling "stupid plants"

Knicks are winning games because of their bench. I think MDA's rotation is pretty good. I am hoping JJ starts to defend better. He's still moving slowly. We could use someone on the floor who can play any defense at all.

This post really was to say to the people calling this guy great already--hey let me see it. I see a very marginal looking talent. If he is all that--if he has no physical restrictions---go do it against frontline tier one players as a starter. The Knicks have NOTHINg to lose with sitting Jefferies. Larry Bird was Larry Bird at 20--great players are already great at 20. He has been playing pro ball for 4 years. If he has all of this talent--I would think I would get him into the starting PF position over a guy shooting 38% who can't make a lay up. If the Nets are willing to let Andersen start 4 same age less experience--if this guy is so talented and battle tested against top notch European players--let him start. If he is that good it can ONLy help the team.
What is patience--I don't get it--why is Derrick rose starting--why dont they bring him along slowly? Why is Eric Gordon starting? We have a need the PF Jeffries is terrible--we won 25 games last year--the guy is playing 25 minutes no restrictions--he had no surgery--so what is the deal? Hide him to play against second line players? Cant seem to dribble like the Euro courts? Cant seem to hold American players in front of him? He should be more skilled than that right??

People are acting like this is an 18 year old out of HS and he is NOT. Let him go--I hope he plays well believe me--we need something to get Jefferies out of there. Im willing to be patient with Gallinari--but let him go out there and take the bumps and bruises against the top guys.

He has a bad back. His minutes will always be limited.

I think he must be pretty much over his back injury. He certainly was jumping around celebrating like a healthy guy after he hit his three in the fourth quarter.

Then he can start and play 45 minutes as BRIGGs says.

If his back is 100%, why is he constantly stretching his back in the entryway when he's not in the game?

That's because it's not 100% and he never said it is. In order for him not to suffer a set back, he needs to keep it loose and warm.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

not to mention his stiff legs... plus he's a Euro, can't forget about that... remember those Aussies are cut from much hardier cloth... Andrew Bogut's a stud if i ever saw one.

If he doesn't have space his handles are atrocious then to top it off he doesn't have close to the kind of strength he needs to have to get by his man regularly and he's slow. It's common rookies have a learning curve but this is a major problem. After watching Eric Gordon this yr in about a dozen games I noticed his handle is weak too. It was known before the draft his handle was suspect but even with this being a weakness of his, he still gets to the rim without major difficulty. Gordon gets to the line at least 4/gm and shoots 37% from 3pt range. He also guards the best offensive player on most nights. Yet he has holes in his game. Gallo isn't close to his level yet. I see Gallo possibly becoming as good as Dunleavy or maybe Hedo.

[Edited by - GallOfFame on 02-07-2009 4:36 PM]

I think the Hedo comparison is a bit off, Hedo used to be known as Turkey's Michael Jordan and Gallinari doesnt have his athelticism or his first step. That said i still think he can make a living driving to the hop, he could use his length and size along with his soft touch for a pull up jumper or try to draw some contact. But anyway i cant tell yet cos nobody seems to look for him on offense so pls Nate get him the ball so i may quickly make up my mind if he is a bust or the next great Euro

Bogut is averaging a double double and has had back problems all year. He has attempted to 'played through it' and has an 'actual diagnosis' from a doctor. He also is one of the leagues leading shot blockers.
