Exactly- we could've rescinded the deal once Mobley failed his physical. We didn't, because the ultimate goal of the deal was cap space and not the players. But we knew about the condition when we let the deal go through, thus we weren't given a medical exception.

^ yeah, the appeal seemed like a hail mary. And it seemed like they waited a long time to make a decision... and this was pretty cut-and-dry. The league definitely didn't give the Knicks the shaft and it seems like they worked with the team to figure out how to grant it.

How did we "know" about his condition. It was revealed to us after the trade was made and it was too complicated to put a halt to it, because the Clips weren't trying to accommodate us.

I guess we're still being punished for the NY haters getting mad that we legitimately won the lottery in 85 and that blown call in the playoffs. This is completely bogus man.

You got the timing wrong. We finalized the deal after we knew about the condition. As to the bold part, it is not Stern's job to compensate us just because the Clippers wouldn't.

I understand the deal, its just that its problematic to rescind a deal thats already been agreed upon. Bringing back traded players is tough, and the Clips wouldnt modify the trade. Point is that we didnt know about his condition when the deal was initially made.

I think this is b.s

Discovering the condition put the Knicks in a tough position with no easy answers. I'll definitely give you that. But in the end the Knicks got what they wanted and the Clippers probably already wish they could undo the trade. The Clippers have been a poorly run team for decades now. We should try to trade with them more often.

I know we might never know what really happened, but I think that just before the Knicks didn't rescind the deal because they knew about Mobley's condition doesn't mean they accepted the deal knowing he wouldn't ever play for them. I think the Knicks knew about the condition but didn't believe he wouldn't be able to play. They accepted it because their main goal was to clear cap space and maybe also because they assumed that if Mobley played for the Clips he would for the Knicks. It was later when they found out he would have to retire.

This is clearly a terrible decision from the NBA because they are penalizing a franchise for doing the right thing. So the Knicks should've said "phuk it, let him play since he was with the Clips" and risk the player dying on the court? Seems like it. Im convinced the Knicks made the deal not only for the cap space but for the immediate impact Mobley was going to have on the team. Don't you agree that we still lack a shooting guard? Well, that was Mobley's job. If the Knicks found out the condition had degenerated to the point where he had to retire, they should've got a compensation from the league. But they didn't and its really valid to wonder if this would've happened in LA or somewhere else.

The NBA is a joke and they proved it once more with the handling of this. Phuk them!

It takes a crystal ball to KNOW if a player will play again. That cannot be the standard the NBA uses.

Donnie's been around long enough to know he wouldn't get the exception, but he'd have been a fool not to try.
