I know we might never know what really happened, but I think that just before the Knicks didn't rescind the deal because they knew about Mobley's condition doesn't mean they accepted the deal knowing he wouldn't ever play for them. I think the Knicks knew about the condition but didn't believe he wouldn't be able to play. They accepted it because their main goal was to clear cap space and maybe also because they assumed that if Mobley played for the Clips he would for the Knicks. It was later when they found out he would have to retire.
This is clearly a terrible decision from the NBA because they are penalizing a franchise for doing the right thing. So the Knicks should've said "phuk it, let him play since he was with the Clips" and risk the player dying on the court? Seems like it. Im convinced the Knicks made the deal not only for the cap space but for the immediate impact Mobley was going to have on the team. Don't you agree that we still lack a shooting guard? Well, that was Mobley's job. If the Knicks found out the condition had degenerated to the point where he had to retire, they should've got a compensation from the league. But they didn't and its really valid to wonder if this would've happened in LA or somewhere else.
The NBA is a joke and they proved it once more with the handling of this. Phuk them!
