ESPN/NBAStore.com are reporting that Nate's Jersey is the 10th most popular in the league in terms of sales for the season. I doubt management would want to trade such a popular player in a period where the plan is to essentially throw the next season and a half. For one, they will risk alienating all of the fans whose new jerseys are on the way to being as current as a Spreewell #8. Also, stories about his personality distract reporters from talking more about the Knicks various problems.

i dunno about u but i've never once felt alienated by the team i root for when i bought a player's jersey & he ended up being traded soon after... i just ended up buying another jersey of a different player on the team.

I can't wait for Nate to be an ex-Knick.

IMO if there's anyone we should be thinking about signing to an extension it's Duhon, not Nate.

Talking about yourself You're not really a Knicks fan--how could you put down this kid? The Knicks are going good for the first time in a long time--why spew venom?

I think re-signing Duhon depends on which free agents we're targeting. If we're really going after LeBron or Wade, I don't think Duhon is the right PG. I would want a PG who is a much better shooter and doesn't have to have the ball in his hands to make an impact as the offense would run through LeBron and/or Wade. If they end up getting guys like Bosh and Joe Johnson, they would need a more traditional PG and Duhon would be an option, albeit an average one. At a minimum, he'd be a good backup.

even if u have Lebron or Wade i think Duhon is the type of player that can fit in well w/whatever system u wanna run... it's always good to have someone else who knows how to orchestrate in the rotation... we can always draft a shooter like Curry to fill that role off the bench, & we also have Gallo & Chandler who can hit their fair share of perimeter shots as well... i just think Nate is more of a novelty than anything else... he's great when he's on & exciting to watch, but i feel his shortcomings on defense & his erradic play make him expendable... i would not use up longterm cap space to keep him on the roster over Duhon.

à la Jordan and the "PGs" he had on those great Bulls teams.

So you are actually able to make well a reasoned analysis without being antagonistically provocative (as in calling Nate a "clown and a loser"). Impressive.

If we trade Nate for nothing--like some people who have intimated--the NY Knicks will NOT make the playoffs this year. I'm not opposed to trading him but to get fair value would be next to impossible and I wouldnt do it otherwise. You are trading a guy who could be 6th man of the year and an impact player who plays with tremendous heart. When he plays within himself--he is very close to NBA ALL STAR type talent. Can he play within himself the way he started the season and the last 5--that is your only question.

Nate is not a PG. if he came off the bench and only played a SG roll, I think he would be fine and not go all nutty some of the time.

what do u deem to be fair value? a mid 1st round pick is not exactly nothing, unless u happen to think guys like Patrick Patterson, Jeff Teague, Stephen Curry or Demar Derozan are nothing prospects.

nah, he'll still be nutty... that's in his character, he's just a nut... sometimes he's a really good nut, sometimes he's a really awful nut... sometimes u feel like a nut, sometimes u don't.

Id be willing to do a deal with Nate that filled a need.

I think the trade I outlined before

Malik and Nate Denver 2nd rounder 3mm to Utah

Harpring Koufus and our pick back in 2010

That would give us a replacement for nate for this year and a guy who we could replace Jefferies with and get our pick back next year--that is the type of trade Id be willing to do. Utah needs to reduce payroll and this deal gives them savings of 13mm not including the 3mm kicked in. It would give the Jazz the kick start player they need to make the playoffs off the bench and significant $$$ savings. It give the Knicks the big man who fits the system and Harpring can play out the year as a reserve. If Im giving up a very good young player and giving somoene a HUGE financials avings--I want something signifcant back. Some people might not think Houfus is significant or the piock next year might not be worth it--but I have seen enough of Koufus to believe he is a player.

i don't think Utah would be interested in Nate but if u could get back the 2010 pick for him in that trade i'd do that anyday of the week.

I love Nate's game. I don't mind him getting a little crazy from time to time. I can definitely live with that. I think he has shown huge strides this year and will continue to do so. I think that slump definitely had something to do with the injury. Perhaps he reinjured it slightly and he didn't tell the newspapers or anyone else. During the slump he seemed a step slow on all ends, even if he got the ball in the open court.

i hear you. it's really demeaning, insulting and condescending.

you can just hear the unspoken word in that phrase. it's hanging in the air with all its implication and insinuation.

what he's really saying is:

"you village people"

See? you people know who you are...

I hope Donnie Walsh looks into it. The bottom line with many NBA teams will be cutting payroll--Utah cannot sustain the payroll they have now. They already have Okur Boozer Millsap and have two back up C in Fasenko and Koufus. We can use Malik's ending contract to alleviate 6.8mm off of their cap next year NOT including lux tax and swap a need for them--nate off the bench--for their excess back up C and our pick back. It gives Utah 7mm in cap flexibility next year saves them another 4-7mm in taxes and they are hurting badly right now from their bench production. Nate Robinson would make them a playoff team/

If we added Koufus and then Calathes in the draft while just subtracting Nate--I wouldnt ask for one other move other than resigning Lee. We'd lose a lot with Nate but finding that skilled big man and big point guard might make us scary good quickly.
