Two things--number 1 that fat poet just embarrassed the United States of America. I mean What the Heck was that??? She wouldnt have lasted 30 second son the Gong Show.

Secondly in a day that should mark racial harmony that preacher should not have thrown in "when white will embrace what is right" or "black will not be asked to give back".

The poet was strange. The reverend was just whack. "Yellow will be mellow"? I honestly felt uncomfortable listening to him, hoping to God that he didn't say anything really regretable.

And what was the deal with Chief Justice Stevens going off the cuff with the oath of office? Totally threw Obama off. Not surprisingly FoxNews, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and the Drudge Report is ridiculing Obama as if he was the one making the mistake.

This is the oath as it's written in the Constitution:

”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

This is what Justice Stevens asked Obama to repeat:

"I (state your name), do solemnly swear...that I will execute the office of President to the United States faithfully, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

No doubt it was Bush's guy setting Obama up.

Dr. Lowery for those who don't know was a Civil Rights leader and gave a southern Baptist benediction. I suspect that many on this board aren't familar with a Southern Baptist benediction. But it is common to settle down the congregation after an arousing sermon or speech. Lowery's benediction is one that he used during the Civil Rights Movement normally after Dr. King Jr. sermons before a multiple of races and faiths. Most benedictions are done with humor and a word of encouragement and a blessing. He is frequently requested to site it.

It's a Manchurian candidate thing. Don't you worry your pretty little head about it. The protocols are already in place and it is too late, now.

Dick Cheney in a wheelchair, oh man. What a weird sight.

He kinda looked like a villain in a James Bond movie.

He supposedly got a bulging disc while lifting a box with all those secret files he is trying to keep classified.

I expect that the back problem was a pre-existing injury. I knew the guy was damaged goods.

I kind of agree with Cosmic. While I understand being proud and celebrating something that has never happened before... it should be more about Obama the man, Obama the president, his character, and what he brings to the table. Race shouldn't be such a large factor that it has to come up in every single media report. I think what Cosmic is ultimately pointing out is that repeated irresponsibility of the media sets a bad example.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

The Answer Man Goes To The National Mall, With A Good View and Blue Ticket

Solace and Cosmic - of course President Barack Obama was elected, in large part, because he was simply the more intelligent choice. Sarah Palin anywhere near the White House is as damning an indictment of the lack of educational standards as one can get.

At the same time, those who are quick to downplay the significance of the occassion are simply viewing the day through a prism of limited perspective.

Can you take a moment to look at the world through Jared Jeffries sunglasses, and the consider having that same personal experience with your parents - or your family?

Can you begin to describe what saying "President Barack Obama" feel like?

"Forward Jared Jeffries is far too young to remember segregation; but yesterday he recalled how he lost two uncles in Mississippi to violence; one hung by the Klan, and another killed by a police sheriff. And Jeffries said President Obama is a living, breathing testament to progress.

"My dad's uncle was killed. The sheriff just walked in and took him. It was part of life in Mississippi; the law enforcement was corrupt, the Klan was still very strong. You had a lot of families that were affected by that. That happened a lot, and there were no consequences,'' Jeffries said. "That's how far this country has come.

"I talked to my dad all through the (race). My dad grew up in Mississippi, was a sharecropper and picked cotton by hand when he was young. For the world to come as far as it's come just during his generation, and to see a black president in his lifetime, it's incredible. For people of my father's generation to see this moment is incredible.''

Claiming race should not be a factor is simply a weak attempt to take an ostrich approach to American History.

TheGame - not so hard to imagine. Limbaugh has tens of millions of loyal listeners and is paid tens of millions to keep them engaged with consumer products. For them Rush is truth.

His brief stint with the NFL on ESPN Gameday was a recognition of his influence and power. His entertaining brand of bigotry was simply exposed on a national stage. If he could host "Monday Night Lynching" he would.

(The New York Times values the former drug addict Limbaugh's new contract at $50 million per year, which is more than double and a half what the oft-quoted Stephon Marbury makes)

Not so hard to imagine.

Obama getting sworn in wasn't the smoothest Oath I've seen, btw.

the dude giving the oath messed up & threw him for a loop... that was weak.

He was trying to trick Obama. They were gonna come back later and say that he's not really president because he didn't say the oath properly. Then Bush would return and impose martial law.

Obama's a bust as President

Why? Is he injured?

I hear what you're saying and I don't think anyone is discounting the historical significance and what it means to so many people. At some point, though, it has to be a lot more than that, right? We are talking about the President, and he does represent everyone in this country. I think we all agree that Obama was elected because he was the better choice and not because of race, right? With that, it is a bit surprising to see more focus put on race than on his actual presidency. But, maybe you're right and we're simply being a little too impatient.

Strange but I don't remember voting on the Knicks drafting Il Bustino. Funny but I don't remember many people hoping that he would be drafted by the Knicks.

It's not that I am a Frenchy, it's just that I really don't understand all the hate towards Euros.

If a Euro talked the way you guys did about Americans, all hell would break loose.

Again, I am not trying to 'start ****', but I am concerned about the viewpoint you guys have towards European players. I feel that I am justified.
