The CrafoZackization of Eddy Curry set to begin.
If Mike can do this he is obviously a genious.
boy you said it... if MDA can get Curry involved he could put up big scoring numbers in short amounts of time and jack his value up this offseason. Not every team is looking to dump for summer of 2010 and a 6'11 scoring bigman with a short contract thats 26 years old is a good commodity. Eddy is also a nice kid, and everyone likes him. No Zach baggage there

and on Wilcox this is a good place. Everyone can score and be involved here so what you bring is what you get.

fishmike - suddenly Eddy Curry becomes a sympathetic figure. Anything he provides from the Harthorne Wingo memorial seat on the bench is appreciated with heartfelt applause. After the tragic series of events he has been waded through on the domestic front, his weight and conditioning issues pale in comparison.

If Curry never sets foot on the basketball court again it will not be a surprise.

I am excited about Wilcox but I dont think he will start right away. He will have to earn his spot...and I think he will in about 10 days. In the meantime he will be a force off the bench and learn D'A's system.

fishmike - you you callin' dude, dude?

Last I read Eddy was barely able to participate in a walk through. That, in my opinion is a long way from practice.. and yes.. we talkin'' bout practice... not the game...

practice.

Not the game you gotta sprint, jump, turn and catch your breath for a second wind...

not the game...

practice.

but what do I know?

Makji - David Lee is so overjoyed to have some manly help on the boards he will take Wilcox to lunch and pick up the tab.

Bad Habits

bipp - "exorcising bad habits" is listed on the Mike D'Antoni job description. It is one of the reasons he is on the payroll.

It's time for a "sit down" with Donnie Walsh at the corner coffee shop.

"Once you're in the family, there's no gettin' out"

I agree. Under Isiah I would not be so confident but I think D'Antoni is one of those guys that is very good at getting playersto do the right things to be productive in his sytem. I am very confident in him. This is a great opportunity for Chris

Lee admitted Wilcox can help down low with their weak interior defense. "He's just a live body, very strong in the post,'' Lee said. "He's athletic enough to guard 4s and 5s. His potential is through the roof. I think he can really help us and add another big body inside.''

All I know is when the Knicks make the playoffs, not many teams will look forward to playing them in the first round

Especially if fans get behind Wilcox and treat him with as much support as Marcus Camby or Chris Dudley

Two (Unnamed) Scouts Walk Into A Bar, One Sez...

Scout One: "Wilcox is a guy who at best is going to be a Reggie Evans, Brandon Bass, Jason Maxiel type. What's held him back is he's an undersized power forward and you have got to give consistent effort.

"The only reason he's moved so much is he's not 6-10. If he's 6-10 [which is his listed size], with his size, he can get away without the consistent effort. But at 6-8, he's got to be consistently rebounding, blocking shots.

"There are nights when he doesn't give you the effort and hustle and toughness every night. Offensively he's not a guy you run plays for, but in coach [Mike] D'Antoni's offense, he can benefit on dirty work, tip-ins, plays in the open floor, offensive rebounds, but again that's predicated on his effort."

Scout 2: "Chris has been an enigma since the day he walked in. It's due to his inconsistency, not using his athleticism as well as he can, for one quarter or one game.

"He's ... running, jumping, blocking shots. He's worked on his offensive skills, but never got them down pat. He doesn't work hard on his own, (he's) not the first one into practice, last one to leave."

“Watching them on the bench tonight, that was great [to] come in and see guys having fun and winning. I also think there is a spot for me to fit in and help them out. But there was a lot of positive energy out there on the court tonight, and I am looking forward to having fun and helping this team get to the playoffs”

The Curious Case of Benjamin But... I mean.... Chris Wilcox

What causes a talented (former first round private audition for the Knicks) player to be considered expendable?

In 05-06, his first season away from the accursed Clippers in Seattle, Wilcox had what might be considered his best season shooting 59pct from the field and 79pct free throws

The Bad News

Every season since then, not only has his fg percentage dropped, but his free throw percentages as well.

06-07 53 fg / 68 ft

07-08 52 fg / 64 ft

08 - 09 (OKC) 48 fg / 60 ft

The field goal drop could be attributable to many things, shot selection, scheme, running buddies, etc

BUT the free throw drop is just focus and work habits

Was the decline due to off court distractions, lack of focus, lack of joy, lack of motivation or lack of coaching support?

The Good News?

All of those things can be corrected.

I think Wilcox has a chance to be special in the Knicks system. On offense, he's shown a strong above the rim game - he's an explosive leaper and finisher. I think he could be Amare-light in the D'Antoni system, creating major easy scoring opportunities at center just by him running the floor.

No sleep for two days

technomaster - 5 points and 5 rebounds in 10 minutes is a decent start

Amare light indeed

No harm, no foul

fishmike on Friday- "dude he's looking at next week and has been practicing with the team."

Alan Hahn today - "Eddy Curry traveled to Toronto but still is not ready to practice with the team. Two weeks ago, he said he planned to be back on the court after the All-Star break, which was last week. With D'Antoni already having to work two new players into the lineup in the midst of a playoff push, it is highly unlikely that Curry will have any opportunity to play this season unless the Knicks fall out of contention"
