Tru... thats the mentality that's all wrong. There's a reason only a few teams have won a championship in the last ten years.... they had the best player. Is it wrong that I want people who can get the BEST player instead of getting crap.

Thanx tru?

Didn't I just say why that's a wrong philosophy. The reason there have only been 4 teams to win a championship in the last decade is because they have built GREAT teams. The Bulls had Jordan... got him Pippen... had Grant, when he left got Rodman. The Lakers have Kobe and Shaq. The spurs have Tim Duncan. These teams were BUILT to CONTEND for a TITLE and they did. They got the best player they could, and supported him with great role players and sidekicks.

Teams that just go for the playoffs have one great player (Ewing, Tmac, Gran Hill on the Pistons) and just hope they get lucky with the rest of the guys. The only team to win with only one great playr was the Rockets, and that's because they played another team with only one great player. The next year they had to add Drexler to even compete. (Don't forget how close they came to being ousted in the first round)

So don't tell me to be happy with the playoffs. I'll be happy when we have a GM who searches the globe for the next great player, and supports him with a GOOD team. Just having a few good players gets you nowhere.

People around here just LOVE the "one and done"...

Bad attitude to have about your team.

What do I want? What the Knicks had in the 90s. EVERY year, in the hunt, and NBA finals appearances (should have won in 94), MSG rocking again, REAL sell-out crowds, with chants of dee-fense, dee-fense, when it actually meant something.

I must not be a fan.

I look at NBA basketball very simple as a fan. Either you have a team that is the caliber to vie for a championship OR NOT. If you don't have a team that cant truly contend for one with a legitimate chance, the only focus should be getting to that level. Other than the Clippers I believe EVERY team in the NBA has this business model--makes sense doesnt it?

If you build a team for long term contention--you are likely to have no trouble filling the stands and getting top dollar for TV advertising etc... and you should get a nice piece of the playoff pie every years for 10-15 years at a clip.

IMHO--because the east is so weak, the knicks need to be evaluated with the players they have including Mcdyess up to the trade deadline for this year because this is a year of opportunity. This is wide open. We will see what is up after game 40--then some determinations can be made.

Being a rah rah fan is like carrying pom poms and I am not a cheerleader. I try to make lucid prognostications based on the facts before me. Right now the facts are incomplete.

The only fact that I believe is true is that Dikembe Mutumbo is responsible for this team being 7-10 instead of 3-14 right now. He is playing at an all star level that past several games and at 7-2 265 that means alot. Houston and Ward both for the most part have been consistent. Kurt Thomas has played very well, but still is a full notch++ below premiere PF level--a place wher we may need to improve despite having 9 of them if Mcdyess falters.

Everyone else has been inconsistent. Doleac, Andersen,KVH, eisley, F Williams etc..... the facts are in the numbers. Andersen has shown eigns and Doleac has played better but only does it every other game.

We need Mcdyess back and he needs 20 games to be fairly evaluated with his teammates.

OK briggs... I agree with what the NBA business model should be. But unless I'm missing something, how are the Knicks doing that? Even with Mcdyess, you think this team has a legitimate chance? The Nets have been the best team in the East two years in a row and they didn't even have a legitimate chance.

I don't knock anyone who's dissatisfied with management. Management sux.

I don't knock anyone who lusts for a championship. After a 30-year dry spell, it's understandable.

But you cannot call yourself a fan if you don't want the team to win. Cheering for a teams success is at the heart of what being a fan is. Sometimes the press and this board are way too negative WHEN THE KNICK ARE WINNING. That just doesn't make any sense to me. Yeah the team has glaring deficiencies that are a function of Layden's mismanagement, but they're winning lately. Winning, on an individual game-to-game basis is where the entertainment lies. Enjoy the entertainment.

LJ, the premier players you speak of are few and far between. To find two of them in a league so big is even less likely. What you're doing is rooting for ping-pong balls, or happening into the next Dirk when lately, with the Knicks playing like they are, you're more likely to find stuff to root for on the Garden floor.
Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

True, Tru.

I know the Knicks would be better long-term with a couple more lousy, lottery-bound seasons and hopefully getting a great young player in the draft, but when I'm watching them play, I'm rooting for them all the way. Can't help it.

And I'm hoping against hope that they turn into something better than they appear to be. For fans of most teams, that's what it's all about. Hoping your team will surpass everyone's expectations, even your own. It's easy to root for the Yankees, Lakers or Spurs, but it's a lot more satisfying to win with the Marlins.

So, if the Knicks are on the bubble, vying for that 8th seed at season's end, I'll be rooting for them all the wya, throwing **** at the TV when they screw up. You never know. Wasn't so long ago that they took their 8th seed team to the championship round.

Those true Layden bashers would rather be right than proven wrong if the team turns around. Internet trade hawks have little regard for their own players except when pproposing trades.

Checketts orchestrated the ewing departure. That was done over laydogs head. The rest is his mismanagement.

I see other teams catchingup to our bone head moves. Nets paying 60 mil for 2 georgetown centers, Toronto got and still paying for Akeem, Philly 30 mil for todd Mcullach, the list goes on.

Check Todays times arctile. Its not so pro Laydog, but its objective.

We are not getting new owners, and the Laydog not going anytime soon. So its better to recognize were are carry more youth on this team not seen in 15 years, and hopefully those kids are ready when the current crop of overpriced bloated contracts run out.

Layden has done a poor to decent job. Things that were bad ideas from the get go:
Trading for Eisley and Anderson
Signing Spoon
Trading for Erik Strickland
trading of Spree for KVH (for win now, bad.for win later, OK)
signing HOuston at the MAX when it was not necessary
Drafting Sweetney at #9
NOt solving the roster issue yet! 3 PG, 8 PF's, 1 SG...etc..

Good Moves:
Trading for Dice - If healthy this trade was a no-brainer
Signing Mutombo
Signing Doleac
Drafting Lampe, Vujanic and Fwill

I think Sweets will be a bust. Lampe was a steal and he got lucky there.

What I hate about Layden is his evasiveness. This is nY be upfront about what you are doing and how you are doing it. What I like is that NY has some young players now. THat is good. I don't like that they are riding the pine behind the likes of Spoon, Harrington and Eisley! If the VETS were better players, I would not mind it so much, but they are not. Let the kids develop. I doubt it would cost NY more than a game or two in the standings, if that!

I think DOLAN is an idiot.

I think Chaney is finally settling into the job...maybe. The guy is 65-96 overall! It has taken him 2 years to get the guys to play his style! That is nuts and it is bad leadership. Although, I do like that he has igured out that Deke needs to anchor the middle finally and he has adjusted his rotation. I like FWILL playing and Chaney trying to develop him. I do notlike Chaney's lack of fire on the bench. He needs to have more fire, this is nY!!

I will root for NY to win now. I don't like the current leadership, but if they win, they deserve credit. If not, they deserve to be fired. If Dice is 85% of what he was (17/9), NY COULD BE An EAST contender. Indy is clearly the best right now (new coach, new attitude). After that it will be up for grabs. If Dice is playing well, can NY beat Indy? Sure, why not but lets get there first.

I stand by pre-season prediction of 40 wins, based on no Dice. A healthy Dice for the last 4 months should move that to 42-43. If Chaney is a good coach, 45 is attainable. That might win the Atlantic. The pressure is on him, if NY stays healthy from here on in.

Like I always say, "Go NY Go NY Go!"

Again... I never said I want the Knicks to lose. I've said, and quite frankly I might add, that I love the team. Hate the management decisions. I will cheer, but in my head and heart, I know they're not going anywhere.

Nedyal, how can those youth be ready when the contract's run out, if they never play?

Okay, so let's say the Knicks make the playoffs...Then what? Ousted in the first round. I am against management and you know what? Dolan wants SUCKERS like us Knick Fans to fill the Garden seats. If you want Dolan out, and Layden out and Chaney out, we need to not make the playoffs, and with that said, losing is the best option. Yes it feels good to win, but we need to lose for the future. And when we lose, we WIN. Is that too hard to understand?

Just look the Spurs--- they traded that awful season they had for what became TWO NBA rings. What good is barely making .500, and say we end being 9th in the East? That will again lead to a lousy draft spot, where Layden will screw up, since he has no real eye for talent.

The Spurs had one of the greatest centers of all time, David Robinson, and Tim Duncan, who was in his prime, AT A YOUNG AGE! The Knicks need a player like that! He was a rookie that year, am I correct? Are the Knicks playing any rookies this season? No! So, please don't compare the sad state of the Knicks, to the Spurs of 1999.

Robinson was out for the season, Celts had the worst record, Spurs got real lucky.

I do want the rookies to play. They need to be rostered first.

I though chaney did a fine job last season with the team he had. They played up to most of ability. They lacked size, quickness, and were old.

I recognize all the mistakes that were made, and tried to understand them. Its done.

Laydog lacks the outgoing character for a GM in NY. I agree. He has made mistakes, I agree. But I like the guy never the less and root for him to turn it around. we all love turn around stories, and I don't think the guy is in capable. We can see changes, more youth, a pipeline, 2nd year player starting to get minutes, etc.

He dug a big hole by bad contracts and circumstance. We are in the very early stages of what everybody wants, its just going to take time. If he can create a competitive team and rebuild, that would be nice. Milos could be a star, we need to find out next year!
