Kiing1 - nobody is the perfect evaluator of talent. You hope your guy hits more than he misses.

All we can hope is that Donnie Walsh continues to make the Knicks incrementally better with one of his next two chess moves.

Personally, I'd rather have the imperfect Ernie Grunfeld back, but whadyagunnado?

Donnie Walsh puts in two years with the Knicks and then moves on.

92 14th pick Malik Sealy passed on Doug Christie, Hubert Davis, Latrell Sprewell
93 14th pick Scott Haskin passed on Sam Cassell and Nick Van Exel
94 15 pick Eric Paitkowski Aaron Mckie was the next pick
95 24 pick Travis Best good pick
96 10th pick Erick Dampier passed on Kobe Bryant Stojaovich, Nash, Jermaine Onela
97 13th pick Austin Croshere passed on Maurice Taylor and Brevin Knight
98 26th Pick Al Harrington.
If someone can defend Walsh draft record then you're looking at this through rose colored glasses. I am too lazy to look up the rest but 2001 no pick 2002 Fred Jones and Prince was on the board and 2003 no pick is not a good run

everybody passed on those guys... so what? Harrington was a good pick. Didnt he put together the Reggie/Rose/Davis/Smitts teams? They went to a couple ECF and an NBA final no? When that team ran its course didnt he turn over Jalen Rose and the Davis's into Artest, Brad Miller, Bender (injuries), Jermaine Oneil?

Walsh isnt perfect and he has certainly swung and missed, every GM from Jerry West on down has. But when you look at the Pacers for the dozen whatever years he ran the team they were always damn good, and Indy isnt exactly a cultural hotspot if your a young black man looking at FA cities.

If Artest didnt blow up that team could have made a good run at the finals for a few years.

He was the guy that got all the morons on that team. I just think Walsh is great at trades and not very good at drafting talent. If your a 6-9 white shooter you have a good chance of getting drafted by Walsh

maybe.. at least he's good at something!

I dont remember blowing a high draft pick. The Galinari pick is obviously suspect because of the back not the talent. But Walsh's teams have been pretty good, he's never had a Don Sterling type run of lottery picks to work with. Hopefully he doesnt here either

Piatkowski, Croshere, Gallinari, Haskin, Brezec, that is a bunch of no playing first round picks. The jury is out on gallinari but he wont play any this year. I guess whoever took under 50 points by Jan was right.

how is that gross back in 96? Nash didn't explode until he got to dallas (and after like 5 years in the league), oneal (who Donnie traded for) was a nobody high school kid, peja was international and scouting was thin back then, and kobe was passed over by 12 other teams.

We just like to argue for the sake of arguing? Yeah, lets argue about Gallinari when he is injured. Lets argue about the draft pick that we don't even know where it will be. Come on, as every other GM out there, Walsh has had his good picks and bad picks. SO WHAT? What's the point? Fire him? Bring Isiah back?

In the last ten years he has had 2 good drafts Granger and Harrington. What is your excuse when Gallinari doesnt play a minute the rest of this year? What will your excuse be when he trades Lee for someone that cant play or loses him for nothing? What will be the excuse when never in free agency has more than 2 or three max players has changed team in a year and the Knicks are getting the pick of the litter? I applaud him dumping Zach but he needs to get some players in here to help the seven playing.

Everyone is annointing him the greatest. I think MDA is great and they winning games because of MDA and the players playing as a team. I just think Walsh is overrated and the plan is get Lebron and Bosh and call it a day. That is a great plan if it works but if you dont get them I have heard no other plan. I am sure they have one, but I want to win right now and make the playoffs and see what it is like at MSG during the playoffs. I want to get another guard and a big in here to help this team

I dont get it.. he's picking in the 20's most years. More than half those guys dont stick in the league. Give me the best GM in the league and I will list 20 guys he passed on in drafts. Wasnt Dampier a monster in college? Athletic 7 footers are usually worth taking risks on no? Granger is highest pick he's had to work with in a long time and he's a stud.

We've tried to "win now" for years. It's called rebuilding. It's called being patient. We still might even make the playoffs with this team. To panic and complain about this year after what we went through with Isiah is a joke. Cool your jets, relax, and enjoy the games, wins or losses. It will be an up and down year and the same can be said for next year as well. We are on the right track. Overrated? Heh. Making the playoffs 24 times in 27 years is not overrated to me. That takes real skill.

Dude, too much stress on you. Those visions of the future sure are hurting you. Why don't we do something nice here. Why don't we let things play out themselves and then we crush or congratulate Walsh. You will save yourself many months of stress for nothing.

You keep arguing with things that haven't happened yet and may/may never happen.

great... whos the guard and the big and how are we getting them? Dude been in charge for 3 months of his first season.
So far:
hired MDA
drafted Gallo
dumped Balkman, Crawford, Zach, Marbury
added Harrington, Tim Thomas
signed Duhon

So far the only move that hasnt been a layup is Gallo because of the back. But 6'10 shooters that handle like PGs arent a dime a dozen. Lets see if the kid can get healthy
