we're gonna sign dlee to a big 1-year contract then re-sign him long-term in 2010 after signing fa's.

Webster has a broken foot and a new long term contract that far exceeds 2010 and Frye is something you take back for spot duty.

Webster's foot will get better and his contract is modest. 4yr/20mill that is by no means a salary cap killer and he would make a nice addition to the SG spot for us. Frye I agree with you on, but he's being brought back to make the deal work.

The Knicks are not adding salary past 2010 unless it cut Curry's contract in half.
I agree here. There are only two scenarios where I'd add even one penny to the 2010 payroll: (a) we move Curry first; (b) we're getting a true star whose salary goes into 2010 as part of a trade (unlikely)

I want DLee to stay here with Duhon beyond 2010. I am really enjoying this team right now and imagine adding 1-2 Superstars with this group. I like Al too. Hopefully we can keep the following players. DLee, Al, Duhon, Mayor, Gallo, Nate and then add LeBron and Bosh.

broken foot is not damaged goods. And trading for Webster's $5M contract is SAVING money compared with the contract that Lee would get (or even his lock on the salary cap that year).

of course portland would do bayless for lee cuz they are smart. This thread boggles my mind

Why Bayless could be awesome here.

you NEVER trade big for small straight up especially when small is unproven and big is good.

I would consider Lee for Bayless + Sergio. Needs to be more than just Lee for Bayless.

agreed... otherwise u have to get back a 1st rounder along w/Bayless at the very least.

Broken foot is damaged goods[you really think we would trade for a player who has now broken his foot twice in 3 months after we drafted a rookie with a problem and traded for Mobley] and on top of it Martell Webster isnt worth 5mm a year. It would make ZERO sense to take on any salary above a rookie slot because if we want to retain a Harrington and/or a Duhon--we will need that cap space. I would trade Bayless for Lee given the circumstances of possibly losing Lee for nothing. It gives us a salary restricted player at cheap cost with HUGE upside. If we want to keep Harrington and Duhon Lee and Nate are goners--the question then is what is the best we can get for them.

You have to trade Lee for someone that was in the draft after him tro give you that extra year. No team is giving you anything on draft night and not trading Lee last summer makes it imperative to get a big in the draft no matter where you draft. Walsh is very deliberate and that back fires sometime I think each day Lee is with the Knicks thwe chances of them resigning increases. The old regime would let Lee walk for nothing will Walsh do the same thing?

I just don't understand this obsession to move David Lee. 14 pts and 10 rbds a game, 2 assists and 56% shooting? Wow. And he "can't" play defense? He's a 6'9 guy playing 7 footers. And plays his heart out, hustles, and is a leader on the floor.

I just don't understand this talk for mentally ill busts like Tyrus Thomas or shoot first no minutes guys like Bayless. I just don't get it. Martell Webster? Are you serious? A career 40% shooter with a busted foot? I just don't get the ideas here.

Here's my prediction. We sign David Lee. We still sign two free agents in 2010. Eddy Curry isn't here.

that's not possible unless u can also dump Fishlips' contract somehow, which is pretty much impossible w/his trade kicker... that's why people are talking about trading D Lee.

If chicago needs a center they can take Curry back. We dont need anymore of their garbage, so no thanks to Tyrus Thomas.

There are ways around things. Jeffries has an option. He's making 6.5 mil. What if he starts to really play well under D'Antoni and opts out. Might or might not happen, but things change.

if somehow Eddie Curry is not here in 2010 cause of a trade that removes his contract and doesn't take one back for 2010, we can sign 2 free agents.

We could sign him to a reasonable deal, but long term and it gives him security, but give him an opt out in 3 years if his value increases, and we just give him the bigger deal as per handshake deal like H20. Happens all the time.

I don't think signing him in 2010 AFTER signing fa's can really occur. Dave will still have a salary hold on the cap which is 200% of his 2009 salary. I think. Been reading that damn Larry Coon thing over and over again.

You are right. That is why we have to pick who we want out of Lee Nate Duhon and Harrington and sign them to extensions before 2010. There is no way in heck we can keep all 4.

Also--if Al Harrington plays like this all year--you can lock it in he will opt out and get paid.

no way we can keep all 4 and sign the likes of Bosh and LeBron. 3 would be tough with 2 free agents.

One possibility that we have collectively not gone over is sign and trades in 2010. Harrington and Lee for Bosh? Except there will be too much free cap space on other teams for that really to be a possibility I think.

harrington ain't going anywhere until 2010. Not enough teams have space after this season.
