the opposition is ur wasting $10 million dollars to bring in a guy who strikes out 140 times a year, bats for a low average & who's defense has been on a decline over the past couple years... Melky's got just as good range in CF as Cameron does & a MUCH better arm, plus he's a switch hitter... they both are very sketchy offensively but at least Melky's cost controlled & cheap... Melky's not gonna hit for as much power as Cameron but are 10 HR's worth an extra $10 million dollars to you? & please don't come back w/some lame reply like "they do if those 10 HR's equate to 22.541% more wins next season"... the only reason this guy makes any sense is because it was part of getting CC to sign here... they're close friends & share the same agents... other than that, i see no reason why we would spend so much more for a marginal upgrade at best.

Melky: .641
Cameron: .809
Rondell White as a Yankee: .666

$10 mil in total contract value is probably the cheapest way we'll ever get a near .200 point increase in OPS. His numbers on offense are actually pretty similar to Swisher's career numbers and much better than Swisher's were last year. Cameron's nothing great by any means but he's very consistent and he's been above the league average in OPS for twelve consecutive seasons.

I haven't seen any indication that he is a replacement for any big name FAs. That's an assumption on your part. Every indication I've seen is that the Yankees have several either official or casual offers made already and none will be retracted if Cameron comes here. Or more generally, every indication is that the Yankees are going to spend, spend, and spend more. If the .200 point OPS increase pays itself off, there's no need to decrease spending elsewhere.

Also, I'm sure you could platoon Cameron and Gardner. That would be good for Cameron at this stage in his career anyway and would buy us a full season to see if Gardner is ready to be an everyday CFer, as we'd have no obligation to Cameron the following season.

What other solutions do people have for CF that would help us both this season and in the long-run? Right now we have Melky, Gardner, Damon, and Swisher (all of whom are pretty bad options).

I don't like or dislike Cameron; I do like upgrades though.
Question: Do you think Giambi is a better offensive player than Melky? Note that virtually all of Cameron's #s from OPS to strikeouts are a lot closer to Giambi's than to Melky's.

whatever, this is obviously a part of the CC signing, it's pretty obvious... if that's what it took to get CC to sign here, so be it.

we're still lacking a #3 hitter unless Cano can show that last year was a fluke.

save that $10 mil & put it towards signing Manny or Mark Tex i say... doesn't make a difference anyways cuz Cameron's coming here regardless of what we say... it was all a part of CC signing here it's clear as day, they share the same agent.

Is that supposed to be something you thought I said? I did say the money would pay itself off if we got a .200 point OPS increase but I never said the money itself was marginal.

Tyler Kepner of the New York Times spoke to people involved with the deal and he gets the feeling that "the Yankees are backing away" for baseball reasons, not financial ones. Kepner adds that the Yankees know they don't have to make this trade immediately if they don't want to.
