I would never give up on the Knicks. Diehard Knicks fan for life.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

sorry to get off topic, but did u feel the same way about the Yankee titles won by Reggie, Catfish, Goose, Willie, Nettles & Chambliss? it's hard enough to win a championship no matter how u build a franchise so i think every championship should be relished just as much as any other... sure it's nice to see home drafted talent get rings on their finger like Jeter, Bernie, Eli, Osi, Jacobs, etc., but w/o a lot of key FA's & trade acquisitions like McKenzie, O'Hara, Burress, Pierce, Robbins, etc. the Giants don't win the SB last year just like the Yankees don't win all those championships in the 90's w/o guys like Rocket, Wells, Key, Justice, Curtis, Lloyd, Cone, Brosius, Davis, Fielder, Boggs, etc.

Football is a little different because of the hard cap and non guarenteed contracts. Thats a game you truly root for the uniform. There's just too much turnover... but as pro football teams go that Giants team was def one of the most home grown. Also you have your marquee guys namely QBs, but for the Giants we won with drafted players playing huge roles and some longtime Giants like Toomer and Strahan getting rings.

And the Yanks of the 90s still had a core of homegrown guys and most of the others were from trades... when Mo closed out every game, when Jeter/Bernie/Oneil were in every rally did you feel like it was bought? And best part was some of those traded players were cast offs... Oneil, Broch, Raines, Gooden... we had a lot of cast offs find a home and do big things. I would say the only bigtime FAs of those title teams were Tino and... ??? The rest were Clemens, Justice... those guys were traded for no?

Going out and buying the best player in the league bringing you from a .500 team at best to a title contendor isnt the same thing. How would you guys have felt if Jordan unretired from baseball and teamed up with Ewing to bring the Knicks a couple titles? I would have enjoyed seeing Pat win his but with MJ? Ug... thats rough to swallow man.

I am sure over time if Lebron is a Knick for 8-10 years after 7 as a Cav he will be a "Knick" and loved as a guy that wanted to come here. Thats the thing I guess... we wouldnt be buying a player like the Yanks buy Sabathia. Lebron would have his choice of places and he or any other elite FA would be picking us so I guess you have that.. or at least we can tell ourselves we have that (kinda like Seb tells himself secret smells manly and musky)

speaking for myself fish, i would be ecstatic to see the Knicks win a title any way they can... if they have to buy one by bringing Lebron & Bosh here, i'm all for that... same as i'd be all for the Yankees signing CC & Mark Tex this year... it's all about winning as far as i'm concerned... it takes a long time & a whole lotta sucking to build a team completely from the ground up the way Tampa Bay did & they didn't even win it last year... IMO the Yankee free agent signings & trade acquisitions over the years have played just as much if not more of a role in winning their championships since the 70's teams when i started following them... i would never discount their importance... not trying to make this into a Yankees thread but if they did happen to win it all this year by being aggressive in free agency, i'd still be just as happy to see our homegrown guys Jeter, Joba, Jorge, Andy, Mo, Wang, Cano, Hughes, Gardner & Melky win a ring.
And the Yanks of the 90s still had a core of homegrown guys and most of the others were from trades... when Mo closed out every game, when Jeter/Bernie/Oneil were in every rally did you feel like it was bought?

i felt just as happy when i saw Reggie hitting 3 HR's vs. the Dodgers... Goose closing out postseason games... Chambliss hitting the ALCS winning HR... Tino hitting that grand slam HR in game 1 of the '98 series, or Jim Leyritz was hitting that big HR off Wohler's in '96... when Brosius was hitting clutch HR's in the ALCS & WS in '99... or when Luis Sojo & Jose Vizcaino were hitting game winning singles in the '00 WS... or when John Wetteland was closing out game 6 of the '96 WS... Boggs drawing a huge walk... Cecil Fielder getting big hits... Chad Curtis hitting HR's... Graeme Lloyd getting big outs... David Wells, Roger Clemens, Jimmy Key, El Duque & David Cone pitching huge games... David Justice hitting huge HR's in the ALCS... Girardi hitting that huge triple... i can go on & on... & while Aaron Boone's HR didn't win us any titles, that has to stand out as 1 of the most joyous feelings as a Yankee fan i've ever had.

"The team we see on the floor now is nowhere near what the team is going to look like in 2010. What's the point of watching? You live and die by your team if it really is YOUR team. But I don't have any connection to Harrington or Tim Thomas and I know they're gonna be out of here by 2010. The Isiah draft picks are fun to watch but how many of them are even going to get contract extensions?"

This is NO TIME to give up on our Knickerbockers.

This is BY FAR the most exciting time to be a Knick fan since I was born. And that's including the 90's. Sure, they grinded out and played tough back then, but our current style of play has the potential to electrify the entire nation, not just the tri-state! It's unfortunate that this Knick revival is concurrent with the worst economic crisis we've seen since...well, forever. If this was 5 years ago, man, what a rush that would be. I might be able to catch a game in person every once in a while. :(

Oh well.
