You can't learn to be a leader though, either you have it or you don't. While admitting that he needed a PG would have been huge for him in many ways as it would have shown him to be humble. I don't believe that was Marbury's type of thought process. Can I judge him for not being the type of person that thinks that way?

I disagree, people can definitely learn how to be leaders, but like learning anything, that is dependent on how much you want it and where you are coming from as your starting point. I'd just argue that he just didn't have enough of a desire to develop those skills, and too much in his personality to overcome in order to get there.

Anything is possible if you have enough desire. The thing is if you don't know how to be a leader your not going to be a good leader at all. There are some guys you can force leadership on them and they will rise to the occasion and step up because they had leadership traits in them already or they knew how to be a leader. There are guys who no matter what position they are in will step up as a leader because they are natural born leaders. Then there are guys who need to be taught leadership, they need someone to show them what leadership really is, usually it would be from someone they respect or look up to who carries themselves that way.

Its very hard to be a leader if you don't understand what leadership is. If Marbury would have stayed with KG maybe he would have learned a thing or 2 down the road. But if you think you can throw anyone into leadership positions regardless of character and expect them to rise to the occasion you will probably be disappointed more times then not.

I think his spirit has something to do with it as well. Even after breaking it down stat wise, and looking at the talent around- which he has had some- you get a feeling that even when he does good it's still something negative in the air. sounds crazy but I got to believe he has bad karma all over him.

He isn't a likeable guy, he brings it on himself. At the end of the day his teammates would sour no matter what team he was playing on. So while I say he would be more successful, I also can't tell you how much more. Since his character would always get in the way.

Balance is as important as talent. Even if he played with talent if it isn't balanced then its not going to be as successful as it should unless the players adapt there game to each other.

But this isn't even just about Marbury.

Look at Jason Terry when he was with ATL as the starting PG compared to him in Dallas along side Steve Nash & Devin Harris & now Jason Kidd. I

Marbury has fans still. If he just said I'll take 2mil less cuz I want to get back on the court that might still be cool to whats left of his fans.

But he has long talked about the business aspect of things and I really don't care about his money. He is a knick who burns a lot of cap that could be used elsewhere. I don't care about his money, but I used to care about his talent and rooted for him to do well.

Funny, the "Starbury" thing was about saving people money, and somehow he became a cult hero. He is saying he will donate any additional salary, but thats over and above what the knicks pay him. Well thats not really giving up anyting is it?

Can I buy episodes of "stars on stars" on DVD?

I never asked marbs to be a leader. I just asked him not to constantly be a part of all the negative situations. Think about it, everytime we have controversy here he is smack dab in the middle. That is not coincidence. When you add to that he's been controversial everywhere he's gone after a while even the diehard lovers have to start thinking "maybe it's not always everyone else's fault. Maybe not everything can be explained by calling everyone a hater"

Once again the guy needs a fresh start(for the 80th time). Hopefully we will move on from him soon and hopefully he will be able to see the light(now that he's so close to it).

leadership is all about being accountable for your own actions... Marbs has never been accountable for his mistakes, he's always about pointing the finger whenever things go wrong... that is why he will never be a leader.

Excellent point,

not accepting accountability ususally is tied to a very insecure person. Not secure enough with themselves to be willing to take or make corrections.

Why was it that Marbury was always so scared & insecure to be held accountable for his actions?? As well as being so scared to take that last second shot?

At the same time, If Marbury really felt that he would have a ton of fans willing to support him. Which probably formed from his charitable work. Then you would think that he would be more secure and willing to hold himself accountable.

Could he have really been that scared of fans turning on him?

a lot of it could possibly tie back to the fact that he's got so many hanger ons among his family & friends who have leached off his success over the years & probably kiss his butt at every opportunity they get... maybe no one held him accountable for his mistakes over the years cuz he was a cash cow to them & he could do no wrong in their eyes... this is just speculation on my part, i have no idea how Steph lives his personal life... just presenting a possible scenario & reason for him being the way he is.
