Who You calling chief, dude?

#1 - Time out, chief. What happened to Chandler at SF? You were his biggest supporter, and I still think that's where he belongs. Have you soured on him just when his stock is taking off?

Panos - nobody said nothing about souring on The Mayor. Certainly he can play some three but if you really want Change You Can Believe In, watch Mike D expolit an abstract matchup advantage by giving Chandler a cameo at guard or power forward. You think his stock is taking off now just wait until he has played 82 games.

#2 - Y'all have short memories. It won't take long for everyone to remember just how bad JJ2 is when he gets back. Balkman was better than him in every aspect and we traded him for a 2nd rounder. Should have kept him, and traded JJ2 for a garbage bag of recyclable cans.

Balkman was fun in spurts and hails from Staten Island but D'Antoni saw enough in Jeffries to smile about his potential in the new system. Hindsight is 20/20. Donnie Walsh knows what he is doing. I ain't got no time to wish for the past. The future is so bright I gotta wear shades.

#3 - Amen to that. Make it happen.

Just squeeze your eyes closed as tight as you can and visualize Haseem Thabeet in an orange and blue NYK road uni.

If you want to improve at sf, Gerald Wallace is the way to go. He's available, he's good and he'll fit the system.

A Recipe For Three Bold Moves

1. I'm thinking a clone of Tayshaun Prince would be perfect. As much as Quentin Richardson has tried to hold it down, the position in this system demands more than a barely average 6'6 can offer. Lebron ain't coming anytime soon. Patrick Ewing Jr is raw but he will not have any problems with effort.

I miss Trevor Ariza

2. Now, visualize Jeffries getting Malik Rose's minutes.

3. Step three, an ambulatory 6'11 type (think healthy Marcus Camby or vintage Sheed) is plugged in for Jerome James the instant his medical exemption kicks in.

Let simmer for 5 minutes

Print playoff tickets

Yeah right! We go on a little winning streak and suddenly, who needs Lebron? Don't joke man.
I'll never trust this' team again.

the Marion is so unlikely. you do realize he asked to be traded away from D'Antoni, right? he was bitter about years of playing out of position at PF and wanted out of PHX.

"Yeah right! We go on a little winning streak and suddenly, who needs Lebron? Don't joke man."

4949 - the idea to upgrade the skill forward position has nothing to do with any "winning streak". It is suggested as an incremental steps to improve the roster, as the squad coheres into a team. It ain't no joke, man.

I respect all the voices for getting under the salary cap, but simply waiting on The Chosen One to don his Yankees hat and jump at the Knicks best offer is not guaranteed. Now, if Bron-Bron signs with New York in 2010 I will personally line 33rd Street with rose petals from Sbarros front door. Lebron would have the New York media hanging on his every move fo' sho'.

But I ain't holding my breath.

Okay, that's a cool response. But we're still going to need someone to take this team over the hump and I will say until I am blue in the face that 'we need to get the best possible player in the league to do that with'. It's Lebron.
I'll never trust this' team again.

4949 - The D'Antoni system thrives on balance and teamwork. The player to take the Knicks to the next level does not need to be a Superstar.

Dave DeBusschere, the player that took the Knicks to the next level was not a super star (even though her wore them) but a solid, versatile worker bee.

I'd settle for a plain old star.

Well, in all fairness 'that was the '1970's'. This is the 2000's. Totally different.

The last several teams to win it all had Duncan, Garnette, Wade and Shaq. As a matter of fact, what was the last team to win it all, who didn't have that guy who could pick it all up for the team when they needed it the most? Even the one time champion 76ers had Dr. J and Moses on that team. Jorday? Kareem? Magic? Bird? Isiah? I mean these players were the top of their fields at one time or another, with great supporting casts.

How can we win without one? You can't!

I suppose the recent Detroit team who won it all a few years back can make that case, but it's a rare case to make.

Janauary 2009 Is Right Around The Corner

Can you say medical exemption? ("Jerome James, who has not played this season, missed yesterday's practice due to personal reasons and will not be at tonight's game." )

The Marbury Chronicles will be old news

QRich will have been replaced in the starting lineup

Jeffries will own Malik Rose's minutes

and Gallinari's 4-6 weeks in pajamas will be over

Trading for Gerald Wallace doesn't have to interfere with getting under the cap in 2010. If we trade a similar contract - like Curry's - our 2010 cap won't be hurt. It would be a lateral move - contract wise. We'd still have to trade other contracts to get under the cap.

Another related point is that if we do trade Curry for Wallace, we're getting a player who is more tradeable.

Wallace is the kind of player I'd love to have. He has the intensity, the athleticism and the well rounded game that spell winner.

Bad Boys, bad boys whachoogunnado?

Ira - if you like your guys on the edgy side you go after a reincarnation of Spree in the wild-eyed personality of 6'8 Stephen Jackson. Perfect fit? Travis Outlaw.

If choir boys are more your cup of tea you make a case for a Mike Dunleavy or might even ask for a do-over on Channing Frye. Perfect fit? Francisco Garcia (shout out to Dominican Republic)

you make the call

i don't understand why people are hung up on the idea of trading for another sf.

this should be chandler's spot, hands down! his range against most 4's is a nice advantage, but his strength and quickness combination could be huge against 3's. i thought the idea was to groom gallo at the 4, where they "could" be a potent duo. i'd rather upgrade with someone who could play the 5 or a 2-way sg.

wallace can't shoot/create and has a history of injuries (at that $$ ummm, no)

marion only makes sense for cap positioning. he looked very good in a very good system in pho(along with everyone else; see QRich for ex#2) and looks rough in miami even with wade & b-easy.. personally, i'd take chandlers upside at this point

we are, and always have been the last 3 years, are set at sf (one time jeffries was our 3)

Jeffries returning shores up the 5 and 4.

The key with trading curry, rose and buying out marbury and getting the matrix is that he played the 4 for dantoni in this system (I think). We are still missing a defensive enforcer type but the flexibility gained with the roster spots and expiring deals gives us the ability to replace the Lebron dream with 2 key acquisitions.

In most cases a player isn't a star until he wins a title and deep down we feel zach and craw when on are those and will turn into those stars cone a title run.

The knicks triedbit with a star and Ewing was thrarted by another star.

If Lebron can't win with his curret team he's not coming to NYC.

The best teams in the league are beatable with 3 star combinations.

Standing pat is the smarter move, but having obvious dead weight players on the roster until then makes no sense.

Getting a shot blocker familar with the dantoni system and clearing bodies currently wearing suits are top priority.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Don't Believe The Hype

"In most cases a player isn't a star until he wins a title ..."

Not so fast babyknicks. Pistol Pete, Charles Barkley, Elgin Baylor, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Michael Ray, The Ice Man, Bernard King, Dominique Wilkins, John Stockton and Allen Iverson mighht beg to differ with your theory.

Star? We don't need no steekin' star!

The NYK could use a longer, more versatile player at the skill forward to shore up depth until Gallinari can walk, run and jump.

Forget Marion too. Francisco Garcia - for all my people in The Bronx.
