So with two days off coming up, Walsh will talk to Marbury and D'Antoni and see how to handle the situation, which has overshadowed everything else this season for the Knicks.

"I haven't talked it out with anybody. I want to talk to Mike, see where this is going to go because I'm unclear, I think like everybody is," Walsh said.

I find this incredulously terrible management by the Knicks. I can't believe Walsh and D'Antoni hadn't sat down and discussed the Marbury situation before this. Better late than never but what the heck have they been doing these last few weeks???

I still dont think they should buy Marbury out. Just de-activate him, or play him. Buying Marbury out sets a precident for other players to just misbehave and then - a buyout where they get paid a lot of money to do nothing or to play against the team that is buying them out. Marbury has 1 year @ $21.9 million. I wouldn't let him go. He hasn't created a problem this year...the Knicks management has. (Usually I am a supporter of Knicks mgmt, but not in this situation)

I agree with Markji. This has been handled pretty badly. You have three choices. Cut him and live with it. Deactivate him and treat him like a 15th man and forget about him. Or step 3, play him. Whatever choice you make, GM and coach must be on the same page. Now with all this talk they have almost no choice but to cut him, for fear of once again, giving marbs the juice card back
I just hope that people will like me

Well' lets sit back and see what happens to Marbury in the next couple days.

Steph was gone when Dolan decided that he is gone.
And this was decided long time back.
Walsh had some second thoughts about it but looks like Dolan has the last say (we all know this).
So simple enough they get a call from Dolan to finish the deal as Dolan decide that Steph has enough punishment.
Do not make it more complicated as it is. Dolan is the boss and he does what he wishes.

The sad part of this whole thing is that Marbury is still the best pg that we have on the team. If Marbury had played, we probably beat the Bucks yesterday. Duhon is just too limited offensively and Nate is still not ready to be a starting pg. Unfortunately, Marbury is such a headcase and has such a bad attitude in the past that Walsh and MDA don't want to deal with him even though he would be an upgrade at the pg position. We need to trade Curry to Bobcats for Felton and then cut Marbury.
Trust the Process

There is no such way the Marbury Divorce backfires.

You have a bad marriage, you make the decision to move on. If the first date with the new chick isn't an immediate hit, do you beg to go back to your ex ?

C'mon. when is divorce pretty?

Life go on.

Enjoy The Ride

You love Marbury. You hate Marbury. Either way he's been gone and about to be gone again.

The entire roster is adjusting to new roles, new shiftlines, new coaches and a new system.

Stop playing the turnaround of the Knicks one game at a time.

Sheesh. Three games.

BlueSeats - if your are a student of Knicks History 102 (as I know you are) you understand that the radical front office makeover alone is enough to shock the system at 2 Penn Plaza. The Knicks franchise has struggled to get General Manager and Head Coach in sync dating back to the years of Holzman, who clashed with Eddie Donovan.

DeBusshere as GM didn't last long, just as Willis Reed was shown the door (despite some rare gems)

Bianchi and McLeod? Gimme a break.

Dolan forced Checketts to choose between Van Gundy and Ernie.

One thing is certain, it ain't never dull.

Okay, was reading the article in the post. Here are some details of the Marbury situation that I did not know about. First, he cannot be traded for two players, because we are already set with 15 players. And' if the Knicks do waive him, then they could end up only paying half his salary, if' Miami or another team picks him up.

I am very satisfied with that scenario. And there is this other question. There is concern about Crawford and Duhon not being able to handle the back court and it is possible that D'Antoni may end up giving him another chance.

Hhhhhmmmmmmmm......................................

I say we waive him, sign your precious Jr., take our chances with what we have right now and call it a day.

Nate can bring it. Duhon has shown he can put some numbers up and Crawford? He'll simply be hot or cold on certain days. That's just the way it will be with him.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Well that's not what I read, and I read the same article. The Knicks are on the hook for his entire salary LESS half of his NEW (league minimum) salary. Of put another way

21,900,000.00
- 600,000.00
-------------
21,300,000.00 paid by the Knicks for another team to have the capable services of Marbury. That'll buy alot of aspirin

4949 - The Post is not a source. It is a rag that exists as a mouthpiece for the Murdoch conservative empire.

If the Knicks do waive Steph, they still pay the difference in salary.

You really think any team is waiting to dish out $20M+ to a one year rental?

To get under the cap, possibly yes. This is commonly known as a "salary dump".

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

LOL, on the opposite end, do you think that Walsh will take back $20M that lasts more than 2 years?

In New York, anything is possible! Read the article I posted here: http://ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=28717

Is there really a plan? And if there is, have Walsh and D'Antoni discussed it with each other?

oohah - step away from the bong.

Ain't NO team in the NBA even remotely thinking about assuming Marbury's 20M in terms of (cough) a "salary dump".

As the say in the country, "that dog just won't hunt".

Marbury has no representation other than himself and that fact alone makes any transaction more difficult.

Did you really say salary dump?

Misterearl, if I step away from the bong I'm afraid you will kill my stash.

Study up on your NBA history and you will see that Marbury's is not the first albatross contract to have been traded.

Now aren't you the guy who puts the positive spin on absolutely everything? Now you say Marbury can't be traded?

Would it help if I told you Walsh said it could happen? Turn you right around it would.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Right, half of his 'new salary'. That's right. And here's the article. It's in the 8th & 9th paragraph. It's still a good deal though.
