Our last 3 lottery picks were Danillo, Frye, and Sweetney. No wonder our team sucks.

Exactly. One of the most pathetic aspects of the Isiah era is that not only did we suck big time -- but we have zilch to show for it. We were at the bottom of the league for so long yet could not get anything close to a franchise player in the draft. At least when we sucked back in the early 80s we got Ewing out of it.

It amazes me too, that for all the sucking we really have gotten 2nd level players out of it. But Isiah didn't do all bad. Chandler is panning out nicely and will be a very good pro. He also did very well with late picks in getting Lee and Robinson. Danilo is just starting so you have to give him some time before you judge. It's tough to build in the draft because you can't measure heart or prep for injuries, and some guys look great on film and against lower competition but lack the confidence to succeed at this level. That being said, I agree with you that it's amazing after wining all these games in the 20's and 30's we have no franchise player to turn too.

The beauty of The Mayor is that he is active on both the defensive and offensive glass. Forget the 8/15 and the 9 rebounds - he's intelligent. Chandler understands the game well enough to pick his spots and rarely takes a bad shot.

Me like

David Lee's 15 and 10 ain't too shabby either.

Then again, if Gallinari can make it on the court by Valentine's Day, the injuries are kept to a minimum, and Walsh stands pat one could see a second half push with:

Duhon/ *Richardson (deep breath) / The Mayor/ *Lee / Jeffries as the first five

with D'Antoni choosing between

Harrington/ *Curry/ Nate/ Tim Thomas and Gallinari off the bench

(* expect the unexpected however as Walsh could get trigger happy if Gallo shows positive signs)

By the time Gallinari comes back in Feb. it will be to late to do anything since the trading deadline is in mid Feb. Knicks should showcase Curry in order to move him. Timing sucks.

Pharzeone - something that was cited by Trautwig - The Mayor has matched up defensively against two's, three's and fours on defense. The young man can force a shot to be altered.
Pierce went suddenly quiet when Chandler replaced Richardson in the lineup.

Ergo, the Mayor at two guard experiment may be put on hold, while Donnie goes shopping for a 6'5 running buddy for Duhon in the Cuttino Mobley slot.

Long term, if Gallinari's versatility is as good as advertised, perhaps HE gets the two guard cameo in Summer League, who knows?

All I know is QRich's 1-13 was not cool.

Pop Quiz

How many guys can accept defensive responsibility for Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo in the same game?

Kevin Garnett was Chandler’s responsibility at the start. (Garnett: 1-for-6, six points)
The Mayor took over on Rondo when Jeffries sat with his foul trouble and also played Pierce some (after Pierce abused Richardson in the second half), while matching Pierce’s 31 points by going to the rack aggressively from start to finish.

“I told (The Mayor) every play we came from timeout: ‘Go straight at (Garnett). Go straight at him. He can’t guard you,’ ” Richardson said. “Because he couldn’t. K.G.’s a great, great player, a great defender, but Wil’s a different type of player for him, and he’s a tough match for him.”

Best Chandler stat from last night, other than 11-12 from the free throw line

My question is, why was JJ2 guarding Rondo in the first place?
I thought he was in the game (as center!) for his defense. Then they have him assigned a guarding mismatch?! I don't get it. I hope to God he's the next guy traded out of here.

The Answer Man Never Plays Zone Defense

Q. Panos - My question is, why was JJ2 guarding Rondo in the first place?

A. That D'Antoni, he so crazy. And because Rondo abused Duhon like a rented Chevy Vega last time.

Brian Schneider: A lot of times I laugh at it, because, you know, if you judge by what kind of celebtration a guy has after a home run or they pump their fist after a basehit, that’s B.S. I think. It’s what’s inside that counts.

You get a guy like Nick Evans, who doesn’t a lot of emotion even in the clubhouse, he’s just a quiet kid, and, even with us he doesn’t show a lot of emotion, so to expect him to go out in front of 50,000 people and get a hit and go crazy it’s just not gonna happen – that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like the game, or doesn’t have passion for the game.
So, I think every one is different… If you play this game, you put the time ands effort in to it for this many years, you definitely have passion for it, you love it, because there is no way you’d still be around.
