I don't see anything in all of this that is worth while. Forget it. Let's just stick to a simple plan and wait for something better to come up.
What if something better does not come up.
These are the facts with this team:
1) You can’t have Curry and Randolph playing together for significant minutes in D’Antoni’s offensive scheme.
2) You can’t have a successful help defense with Curry and Randolph as your big men.
3) Lee, Gallinari, and Chandler will have minutes taken from them by Randolph being on the team.
4) Randolph is not in the long term plans of this Knicks management, and his contract is a heavy weight on the back of the franchise.
5) Randolph has more trade value than Curry at this moment in time.
6) Walsh has said that one of his priorities is to get a shot blocker on this team
7) Based on what we know, the only trade that has seemed to offer us any kind of functional players for Randolph is what Memphis is offering.
8) Memphis has added Marc Gasol and the Iranian center to their team, but they do not have a blue chip big man who can score and rebound like Randolph.
9) Milicic does not seem to be a long-term solution for this team, but one thing he has shown the ability to do is block shots.
10) When Amare was injured, Phoenix spoke to Detroit about Milicic, whose value was probably at its lowest, and wanted to trade for him.
11) D’Antoni just happened to be the coach of Phoenix when they attempted to trade for Milicic- which indicates he might like him.
12) I doubt if Randolph's value can be any higher than it is now and if he is not able to prosper in D'Antoni's system his value will simply go down.
I would rather have fewer wins without Randolph being on the team if it means that Gallo, Lee, and Chandler get more playing time and allow us to see if they can play the kind of ball D’Antoni wants the Knicks to play.
If there really are talks going on between the teams, and Memphis is serious about Randolph and offering Milicic, I would make the trade (assuming that Milicic is fit to play) unless there is some trade out there that we don’t know about. I want Lee, Gallinari, and Chandler- who might be playing on this team in 4 years- playing good minutes from day one of this season. If I can, I would take Walker over Jaric because of his contract, but if they push Jaric, I would attempt to pick up a #2 or one of their other guards. If it makes sense for based on cap/contract considerations, I would also try to give them Rose, even if we have to give them some cash to sweeten the deal.
