As for the US Bball team. I like this team. They played "the right way" yesterday. Interesting how those that destroyed us the past few years(rightfully so) aren't talking about how smart, strong and tough this team played last night. Last Olympics we heard about how great a team Greece was. How they played ball the right way, and that the US were arrogant a-holes. Can we reverse it this year :)

I think this team is as talented as any team in the past. The only reason I'd give the edge to the '92 team is that they were more mature, better shooters and their experience edge would put them over the top. Plus, they had Michael. That team could shot the ball at every position. Even the centers could step out and knock it down. You couldn't leave anyone open. This team really has 2 shooters and that's it.

The Original Dream Team had assasins from 1 to 12. Well, Laettner was pretty good in college. Plus, everyone of those players can shoot, pass and defend. Dream Team kills Redeem Team by 20 everytime.

I agree. In terms of pure talent I think this current team could compete. In terms of basketball smarts I think this team is in the ballpark. In terms of cold killers that would do anything for wins, nothing compares to that team. I do not think for a second this team could beat them. But I will say I like this team more than any of the others(besides '92) in terms of personality and the way they play the game. They play hard, they play smart, now all they need is some maturity and some shooters

funny but i have a feeling none of my African American friends would appreciate me painting my face black or using the N word anytime soon... these idiots just keep making fools of themselves w/this crap & trying to defend their reasoning behind it... it's a joke.

I find it really really REALLY unfortunate your reactions about that "picture" from Spanish team. Everyone can feel offended for what they want, so, as TMS is asian, I suppose his feelings about this are more relevant, though I strongly disagree with his view about what in my eyes (and many more eyes) is an amicable gesture with sole meaning of trying to be friendly with the asian people. A parody or offensive thing would have been, for example, getting some people wearing a mask with asian features trying to eat rice with sticks (with no success) and a gong behind them making noise. Way more than 50% is against bull-fighting in Spain, yet you and every other country that paints a Spanish citizen has that image in main... I agree that Spain has some issues with racism which I hate, BUT IMO USA and even less England are not in a position to claim anything about it.
What I find more disturbing about this whole thing is that the ones who have "acussed" Spain are the American and English media, not the Asian media, who are the ones supposed to do so. I could say a couple of things that I have in mind explainning this fact, but I love this forum and respect everyone here, and I dont want anyone to take it too much seriously, so I wont. Im not anti-American nor I have ever been. But on a minor note, I would like to stress that IMO what some of your players did in Japan 2 years ago was way more unfortunate than what the Spanish basketball team did.

Doing this in a country where the Americans threw 2 atomic bombs was probably one of the most annoying things to do IMO, and Im not the only one who felt this way, yet noone said anything against it.

From a basketball point of view, I hope we see a great match today, really. I hope its the a little show before the finals that we both will play next week. I dont like the fact that most of your baskets are fastbreaks, because that wont be that easy against us, we have a great coach, so I would be surprised if he lets you do it so often as you have been doing. For the rest I am impressed with your defense, which leads to those fast breaks. If you had another skilled big man I think there is no way you could lose.

About Spain, we are not very fluid on offense lately, defense is what has won games for us. Ricky Rubio (18 years old), Rudy and Pau have been the ones leading us. Watch out for Ricky defensive skills, he steals a lot of balls and puts lots of pressure on the rivals PG. rudy is turning over the ball a lot with stupid passes but he is in better shape than Navarro as SG, and Garbajosa is finished... this guy should be in the paralympics! he cant move nor shoot nor anything. Marc has been disapointing too, but agains your kind of weak frontcourt he may have a good game.

I hope to see a good game!

So if an American is offended by something he needs to keep his trap shut unless the Chinese are offended by it too. In our culture many find this offensive and this is perfectly fine. It's our culture and we should hold no apologies for it, just like you have not held any apologies for the actions of the Spanish players. It's all opinion and everyone should have a chance to express it.

There are millions of things that Americans do on a daily basis that we do not find offensive or wrong. For instance there is this thought in many European countries that Americans are loud and obnoxious. This may be a very valid opinion that I do not disparage. But us Americans are not offended by our own "loudness and brutish nature". So by your logic Europeans should not comment on it.

I personally find what the Spanish team did offensive. I don't care if the Chinese do, or if TMS does, I find it offensive. I have no problem saying this.

Back to the subject. I'm pretty sure that the reaction of the Chinese in China is different than the reaction of Asian Americans because they come from different cultures. I don't think Asian Americans or anyone else should apologize for being offended by this. And I don't think anyone has the right to ask them not to be.

I dont understand where are you going? You think the Spanish team supposedly offended the asian people with that picture, and the fact is that barely anyone from Asia is complaining about it. What does it have to do with the perception that supposedly some pople have from Americans and us not being able to express it?¿?¿? Of course you can say that you find it offensive, even if you are not right, you can say whatever you want!
Who said you have to apologize for anything?¿? I just meant that to me you are making a big deal out of nothing and just trying to make something amicable look bad, but thats your opinion, Ive got nothing to argue with that, but it is more than strange (to say the least) that, like I said before, is just the american and English media the ones complaining about it... I also have my own right to think about it as a kind of strategy to criticize the Spanish team and get "something" out of it.

And really, I apologize if I said something wrong, which I think I did not. I would appreciate if you could tell me what is what you find that offensive in that picture?? Just curious. Im almost known as "anti-patriotic" in my country for criticizing everything we do politically or whatever and I cant find anything out of place in the picture, nor a single racism nor mocking related thing.

Good luck for the game

Uppps!! WOW! USA played incredibly good today. Nice defense and nice offense (everyone was making 3's). Playing that way is imposible to beat you. Congrats. Im amazed how well you played against zone defense. Every player was excellent. The Dream Team has come back finally, I must say.

And what a crappy game from Marc Gasol, Rudy and everyone except Felipe Reyes. I hope we reach the final to give you a little bit more of a battle than this, but we had been playing poorly agains China, Germany and Greece, so I expected a hard game... just not this humiliation. Marc Gasol today played MUCH softer than Bosh, which is something to worry about a lot. I think we played afraid the whole time, so theres no other option for me to stay positive than to think that this is not our real level.

That's what I'm saying. Wade looks like the truth. Everyone talking about how it's gonna be the Lebron sweepstakes is seriously undervaluing Wade. He's becoming my favorite NBA player right now. I'd LOVE him on the Knicks.

That cat Ricky Rubio looks like a top pick whenever he comes of age to enter the NBA. I mean the dude is 17, and needs a lot of work, but you can see the potential. He had no chance against the US team though, who are just killing teams on the defensive end.

I've watched 3 of the 4 games (not against Angola) and they've looked like a real Dream Team. It's fun to watch even when it's not close because of the style of play. It really is the NBA version of International or NCAA ball. I think the online commentator said against Greece that Team USA reminded him of the old UNLV and Arkansas teams of the early 90's and I think that's a great comparison.

Extremely athletic squad, pressure defense to create turnovers that create a track meet that runs the other team out of the gym.

I don't see any team really having much of a chance unless a team can somehow change this style, but the other teams don't want to play a slow down game. It will take some amazing coaching and probably luck/chance to beat them.

My mother in law is Asian American and is extremely offended by the picture. There are many in the states that feel the same way. This is why the American papers are reporting on it. Because in our country to some this is offensive. Personally I don't care what the Spanish team does anymore than I care what some team in Minnesota does. But I understand why the US papers have responded to it. Because here, we wouldn't do that. In Spain they obviously would.

Fine Bippity, I suppose it was obious that in the end this would end as "We are better than you -> We would not do it, you would", so I leave it at that because I hate that kind of debates.

And although it is obvious that almost whoever has felt offended by the picture is because "someone" has "sold" the picture as offensive, Im sorry for it. Im no an arrogant patriotic proud of everything my country does for what you have mistaken me maybe. So I have no problem to say Im sorry for it. But before I left the discussion and focus on basketball again, I will say my opinion about this mess:
This was a perfect excuse for the British media to do what they have always liked to do: give Spain a bad image (which sometimes we totally deserve), and they have succeed as always. The USA press joining them is not that kind of strange considering they had to play against us, and it was a good way to generate more "hate" to have better TV audiences and bash Spain. Here in Spain (and I suppose everywhere) we do the same pathetic strategy constantly (especially in soccer and Formula One) which I do feel embarrased about.
I may be wrong of course and maybe the picture deserves to be in Satan's bedroom wall , but thats how I see it.

I disagree with this 100%. In the states many feel this is offensive, we don't need to be sold on what to be offended by. In our culture, this is offensive to many, just like in your culture it is not. That's the beauty of the world is that we can all respond how we see fit.

If the intention in Spain was not to offend than they should apologize to those that are offended and just leave it at that. When you fight it and act as if the people that responded are being silly that is when things get blown out of proportion.

When I was in college I once wrote on a intramural basketball report(I was reffing a game in which I threw someone out), "I threw the guy out for acting gay. By gay I meant stupid and in no way was referring to sexual orientation. Three people were offended everyone else who read it thought it was funny. I apologized to the people that were offended and went on with my life content that I am not a homophobe. Can't help perception after that. I feel this is the same with the Spanish team. If they didn't mean it to be offensive than fine, apologize and move on. But don't go after those that are offended by it.

Bippity, you are right... especially on your last post, hehe.

I dont think it has to do with having a different culture at all. Racism (which in the end is what this is supposedly related to) should be considered the same everywhere. We are waaaay smaller than USA but we have a lot of Asian people too, though you must be right because I really dont see the picture offensive at all. You are also right that its easier and probably better in the end to say "We are sorry to whoever felt offended by the picture, that was never our intention", but considering that none other than you and the English people have complained about it, and if we felt (and I do felt it) that this has been used with very bad intentions (and not for first nor last time) I can understand the reaction of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB). Its not against the people who felt offended, but against the people who, in their (my) opinion, used the picture to gave Spain a bad image. You may have found the picture offensive on first sight and therefore think that is Spain that gives itself a bad image, but you cant deny the power of the media to twist things and change people's perception of things. It happens everywhere and everyday. If you see a picture with the text "The Spanish team is finally in China" placed below is not the same as writing a whole piece of news saying "Here is the Spanish National Team showing his racist ideas to the world" with the picture next to it. It does not have exactly the same effect on the reader... and I dont even want to comment how this works on TV news because we all know it. It has nothing to do with being silly.
Anyway its not up to me to "defend" nor justify what people do. I suppose they should apologize if someone felt offended, but I also think is ok to react when you feel someone is using this picture not with the most honest intentions, and, what is more important, not exactly for the first time by the same people.

Im relaxed, just hope we reach the finals to give you a hard battle
