I think getting rid of Balkman may have something to do with the conversations that Mike had with the players over the summer. That's just a guess, but I think it's a good one.
I just hope that people will like me

He's also a considerably less accomplished (or inclined) passer. Craw avg'd 5 assists last year.

I would just like to point our JR has alwaya played at a pure 2 spot. Craw has always been a swing player.

Craw was a PG with Chicago and with very few exceptions has been a SG with NY.

his iq and character are so low that be was invited to play on the USA select team...

post all star break: 22 mins, 15.7 pts on 49 fg% and 40 3fg%, with 2.3 rebs and 2 assists, and a steal.

49 fg% and 40 3fg% are straight chucker #'s...

i guess the book is written in stone for this 22 year old...

I'd agree with you- after Briggs got on his JR kick last year, whenever I watched the Nuggets, it just seemed JR was fearless and got anywhere he wanted to on the court, much like Kobe or LeBron do.

Coaches are supposed to adapt, right? If JR is available, and you think he is a great talent, he might not have Nash like thinking & instincts, but you still get him because he is a difference maker.

Anyone remember Balkman's defense on Yao?

#1 thing with Balkman is he makes an impact on the floor. He might not be a great shooter or be able to make quick decisions, he does play great defense and last time I checked our roster, we lacked a lot of that- I'd keep him as a bowen type player.

Why this rush to dump him after a summer league? At least he played, which is more than we can say for Gallo.

As far as Balkman taking a step back last year, I am willing to attribute that to all the garbage with Isiah & everything else that went down.

Makes no sense to dump him, but keep Zach, Marbury, JJ or Malik.

Duhon/Marbury*/Nate/Mardy
Crawford/Richardson/Roberson
Chandler/Jeffries/
Randolph*/Gallinari/Rose*
Curry/Lee/James

*=More than likely get traded by February

Donnie keep up the good work...now if Jerome James can get "accidently" shot in his kneecap...

This isn't a overhaul that was going to take place in one summer, it's going to take a while. I have no problem with it. We're going to suck this year and that's fine with me.

Nothing is going to change drastically in a couple of months. Patience is required to do this job. Curry, Crawford, James, and Richardson have opt out clauses. If their seasons inflate their stats which D'Antoni's system usually does for mediocre players, they will opt out only to not be resigned with the Knickerbockers. In addition to Marbury and Rose's contract that can be traded to pick up future first round pick and expiring's down the line. We are not going to the playoffs any time soon but the braintrusts behind the Knicks are making strategic moves, which I must acknowledge.

Now let's say Marbury gets traded for Ben Wallace and Eric Snow a future 2nd rounder. Cavs happy they getting a PG better than what they already have with an expiring contract and get rid of Ben Wallace who at this stage in his career is useless.

Then you trade Rose for Matt Harpring ( who is no longer useful since Korver came over) and a 2010 second rounder.

Crawford averages 26ppg 7apg, Q Rich 18ppg 6rpg, and Curry averages 22ppg and 5rpg and all opt out...thats $29,000,000 off the cap.

So we would be left with $29MILL+ Ben wallace $14MILL + Harpring $7MILL which would equal a $50Mill payroll going into the 09/10 season

At the end of the 09/10 season Wallace's $14MILL, Harpring $7MILL, Jerome James $7MILL expires. Thats leaves us with a $22 Million in payroll w/o trading Zach or resigning David Lee and Nate.

It's gonna take some time fella's we just got to cross our fingers

players do not opt out unless they have another contract coming their way.

There is no way QRich opts opt out, unless by some stroke of dumb luck he has an MVP type year. With his uninsurable back he's never getting a contract better than the one he has.

I think there's a strong possibility Craw could opt out. Curry could opt out pending he has another 19/7 type of season.

That comment is a reflection of your charecter.

If the Knicks got JR Smith, I'm sure Nate would be the first person to call him and squash any lingering feelings towards one another.

Wasn't Craw our starting PG last year after Steph was done?

Dee DEe DEE...Thats why players tend to have their best years when they have a opt out clause coming or their contract is expiring

Phoenix did not want Balkman and D'Antoni said so immediately after the draft. Marcus Williams and Rondo were both available and for that draft Willams had been projected as a lottery pick. Isiah was locked in on Balkman. I think he wanted to shock and show that he was a true draft guru. Some announcer called him on the pick (greg anthony?) and Thomas waited until after Balk had an impressive game and trashed the announcer for his critique of the pick.

I agree ...Nate would welcome him and put old quarrels aside. I'm serious on this.

Now to the fun. They have already made up and are dancing...

Just reported by Alan Hahn, the Newsday Knicks blogger:

Balkman deal done
Just got a tip from an NBA contact that the Renaldo Balkman trade to the Denver Nuggets was just completed.

The Knicks sent Balkman to the Nuggets in exchange for Taurean Green and Bobby Jones. K-Berg reported this in today's Newsday. A person with knowledge of the situation told me on Sunday night that Green and Jones are expected to be waived by the Knicks. Neither has a guaranteed contract.
