The funny thing about the NBA contract structures are that you're either gonna get the max or the MLE. What about all those players in between? What about the players in between the LLE and the MLE?

Soccer just had a head start on the NBA, but the NBA is an international game. I could definitely see the leagues out there start poaching players. We already have seen the game being equalized in the international tournaments. Childress could fit very well within the European concept even though he's not a huge scorer.

V, just wait until India get on the basketball kick. I can see a lot of these players booking it to play for Mumbai, New Deli, and Banglore. They got a lot of Billionaires.

India is attracting players from around the world to play Cricket for their cities. This is all a part of Globalization.

Haha..maybe, but they gotta build some courts over there first! The only hoops I've seen there are on dirt courts. Gotta lay some cement down!

my God, first Josh Childress, now Boki Nachbar... the Euro leagues are stealing all of the NBA's top talent.

People are joking around, but we've seen in the NBA and several sports that expansion teams really dilute the talent pool (and the level of play dips for the years immediately after for a bit). If you start to see 10-12 rotational players or more leave per year it would probably have a similar effect.

And once several guys are established over there you might see some of the young players head over there as well.

C'mon, oohah its money. Thats then number one reason.

I agree, you are probably right. I would imagine that the NCAA is not losing money, but it isn't as huge as it was back in the late 80s through the mid-90s. But I don't have the data to support that.

I can say for sure college B-Ball quality has gotten worse because players don't stay the way they used to, and interestingly, it has a similar effect on NBA ball because the players are immature when they arrive to the pros and have no real minor-league system.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Hmmm... Could we trade players to Europe to clear their $alaries?

How sweet would Crawford look doing off the backboard slams for Olympiakos?

Randolph would be a force. Maybe we could pay half his salary. Are there rules for this?
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

no real concern. losing lower level talent is not the problem and never will be... as long as the european top players( Bargnani, gallanari, etc) keep comming over to the NBA, losing guys like anthony parker, nachbar and josh childress is really no big deal...

You strip the depth out of any NBA team and you will see problems. It won't be a major concern, but if level of play is falling off right now it'll only fall off further. A few guys get some nice $$$ and others will be the following the money too.

It would take a lot more for it become like soccer where there are 4-5 world class leagues, but the popularity of bball in countries like Greece, France, Spain, Italy and Russia is undeniable right now and the Eastern European countries have been consistently producing quality players for almost 20 years now. And now you have South America with Argentina and Brazil producing NBA quality players.

How are we stripping the depth of NBA teams if we're getting maybe 5 solid European players to join the NBA for every 1 American who leaves the NBA for Europe?

i'm sure they're still making way more money today than they were back in the 80's and 90's.

owners are stupid. all that's needed is one owner to make one stupid signing in the summer and then it opens the floodgates.

exactly.... the key is that the Better NBA players, the Stars, the allstars and the high level players don't leave. and they won't. the 5-7 year deals along with the endorsement opportunities is just too much to pass up, along with the popularity of the NBA...

Nachbar leaving, josh smith leaving, no big deal, there are guys waiting to fill those spots, those mid level talent spots...

This doesnt really mention if the money is Euro or US but it is tax free. The big implication here is the European market can no effect the NBA product. If they have the money to lure core team players--the ability to attract talent like Jennings who couldve gone #1 in the uSA draft this year--it's a scary development. All of these RFA asking for more money--well have to see where this goes. I wonder if Luol Deng and Ok4 take off next year for European $$$ it will really come to light. All is fair in an open markte society--we stripped the Eurpean league foir years--payback will certainly be coming--right now American owners cant compete with the cash exchange and the tax free payment.

good.. I hope they do go. I hope Deng, OK4, KG, etc all go there. Eventually Zach will make the all star game if enough of those guys bolt

I look at the state of this country after 8 years and it makes me sick. No twin towers, Bin Laden stil at large, we bomb the middle east, gas (coincidentally) goes up to $4.50 the dollar is sinking like a lead zeppelin, banks are tanking from the mortage crisis but its all OK because the government sent me a check for $900 so I could do my part to stimulate the economy.

Assholes

On a side note that money went to 3 drinking binges, a day at the racetrack and a rub and tug... just so you guys know I did my part (to help the economy that is)
