The Los Angeles Clippers today acquired forward Marcus Camby from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for a future second round draft pick. The NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2006-07, Camby comes to the Clippers with a reputation as one of the top defenders in the league. A 12-year veteran, Camby led the NBA in blocked shots last year (3.61) for the third straight season, becoming only the second player in NBA history to lead the league in three consecutive seasons. “I love this acquisition for the current make up of our team,” Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy said. “We are getting a consummate pro who is maybe the best team defender in the league and who has 60 playoff games under his belt.”

They still want to discuss Zach? Wow! I guess you can give 3 players 32 mpg each at PF/C and maybe try to get some SF min out of one of them (somehow). If they're going for the "win now at all financial costs" mentality, then as might as well add Zach for just a 2nd rounder. Zach and Baron could be the focal points of their offense with Kaman and Camby anchoring the defense.

Camby for who? There must be more in the works, because I see Kaman and Camby as redundant.

oohah

Two great rebounding, shot-blocking big men are never redundant. They'll defend the interior better than any other team in the league. Camby's quick enough to play PF. Camby and Kaman combined for 26 RPG and 6.4 blocks/game last season. That's just insane. Those two had more blocks/game than any of the 28 other ENTIRE teams had!

Yeah, but what about offense? You bring more defense, but Brand's offense lacking hasn't been addressed. It does seem like a move that may lead to at least another one. Not that it has to be the Knicks' one, but it looks incomplete...

that's old news- doubt they talk about Zach now. They wanted to see what they could buy for a second rounder.

Walsh blew it!

they're two big men without a low post game. While I like Camby, if I were the clips GM, I'd have preferred Zach.

Kaman's a solid low post scorer. He's no KG or Duncan, but you can't ignore him in the low post either.

Camby doesnt play on the block Kaman does--it's a solid fit. Kaman has the potential to move his scoring up 2-3 points but LA is going to get more scoring from guys like Gordon Thorton Davis.
I can see the Clippers go the cheap route to grab another vet F they also have Powell Jordan Thomas Throtn can slide to 4 etc... Zach to the Clippers is as good as dead

I dont know where he's going now but the Knicks better get desperate IF there is a deal out there to be made???/ or their going to have way to many big men who need PT and the 2010 FA plan may have just been zapped.

What a ****ing idiot Walsh is; if he had the chance and didn't know it, he really is a joke. Everyone kept cutting him slack you have the chance to pull the trigger you do it when a team is hurting you take advantage. Same old same old.

That may have been our best chance to get rid of Zach. What a disappointment. I hope Walsh calls LA now before the paper work for the Camby deal is completed. If it's true that they inquired about Zach first and then looked into Camby, then (for some strange reason!) Zach must be their preference.

So much for cap space not mattering or for 2010 being "Lebron or nothing." The Clippers just added the DPOY and Baron Davis and still have room to add more. I'll take those guys over anyone the non-cap-space 2010 group has advocated getting.

who knows but it does appear that LA took the deal that we refused. They can just put Camby at PF

that doesn't make sense... Clippers took Camby who has a much more manageable contract & is a better player besides... they could afford to absorb Camby's deal & only give back a 2nd rounder in return... this was a straight salary dump move for the Nuggets & the Clippers just upgraded their frontcourt defense by 10 fold... how does that compare to any trade discussions they had for Zach? were the Clips willing to take on Zach's $48 million dollar contract w/o giving back any in return?

I can't ****ing believe this; anyone who defended not moving Zach and trusting Donnie you should be banned. For some reason some people think Zach has value. He doesn't. One team was stupid enough to think about taking him in a straight salary dump. Something that was a fantasy and the number one priority was trading his contract. A gift from the gods a top flight free agent in 2010 on his way, but Walsh thought he was going to pull off a good trade, which he hasn't done in 5 years.

A season to showcase Lee and Curry build value and deal from a position of strength has just been destroyed.

I agree with you TMS. We have no idea if the trade scenarios were true or not. First they said we were taking back cap fodder than the reports changed and said it was a 2nd rounder. Who knows what the actual deal was.

Either way, Zach's value, even at an all-time low for most of you, is more than an expiring contract and a second rounder. At least make it a first

the way i understand it, there isn't even an expiring involved in the deal... Clips are simply absorbing Camby's contract for a future 2nd round pick... it gives the Nuggets instant cap relief & they don't have to take back even an expiring contract in return... it makes sense for the Clippers to do this type of trade... this isn't quite the same as the rumored Zach deal.

Maybe you should be banned for sounding like an *******.

No one here believes Zach has value.

Maybe the Clips will redirect him to NY !! Nuggs wanted cap space that we didn't have but Clips do. Clips want Zach for offense and we want Camby for defense so the second part of the trade will redirect him here. Had to be done this way because Zach make much more than Camby !!!

if that goes down Walsh deserves all the credit in the world... i doubt it tho.

This is why I suggested we offer Zach to Denver earlier. George Karl is an ******* and probably thinks he can mold Zach, hell he already thinks he can mold AI, Melo and Kenyon into a solid team, why not add Zach?

With that trade exception being 8 mill, they'd only have to send us a combo of Stephen Hunter and Chucky Atkins to ship Zach there. They do need another guy down low.

It's not a huge price to pay. I'm just saying...
