bitty has a point.

1/2 the league is trying to tank which makes for a very poor product.

cap and trade rules need to be changed.

as a knicks fan, what is the most important thing to you when watching a game? is it for the team to win? is it for them to play hard and lose? is it for them just to play hard and outcome doesn't matter? or it doesn't matter as long as they lose and get a high pick and cut salary?

I think this is one of the worst periods of basketball right now. The Franchise Player is all but dead, slightly average players are given the same consideration as MVP type talents, you have half the league tanking their seasons, and the garbage thats passed as good young talent has almost become laughable so what is this all in aid of? NBA had one of it's greatest periods when Michael Jordan was playing and now the NBA is probably at one it's worse periods. Can this be attributed to David Stern's managerial philosphy of money then the game, can it be attributed to these guys not learning the game, can it be attributed to the obsence money thats thrown around for so-so talent, whose to say but all I know is that I am sick and tired watching ****ty basketball games. And then being told hey that's okay they are planning for the future.

meanwhile baseball instituted revenue sharing a few years back and the wild card. baseball has always been a great game to watch but now the parity is amazing. any team can win the world series.

basketball, there's only 3 or 4 that have a real shot.

We still have our draft pick this year. I have no problem making it a good one.

if the knicks played 82 games of pure crap in the process, would you be content with it as long as the lowest pick they can get is #4?

My expectations for '09?

Absolutely nothing.

New regime, clean slate.

Whatever happens happens and we'll go from there.

Real talk, its amazing that with all the turmoil baseball has gone through over the past 12 years, its actually stronger than ever and the product is great.

I'd be ok as long as Gallo and Chandler and the guys were getting minutes as soon it was obvious we weren't comeptetive. I'd also be happier if we weren't a bunch of malcontents losing sexual harassment trials and deserting the team. Yeah it sucks to watch losses but the arrow needs to pointed in the right direction first.

I don't like the baseball set up. They care more about people breaking records then who wins the championships. They should cut the season shorter and make the playoffs longer.

Football has the best setup with contracts and competitiveness.

football is sudden death, completely different animal, 1 game playoff series.

baseball has always been about #'s. batting .300 in 1920 is just like batting .300 today. it's amazing really.

baseball also went from a primarily white sport to a more culturally diverse one (but still primarily white and latino). not as much racial stigmas with that sport as with the nba.

I love football, but the only reason I think it became so popular is because people love betting on it.

speaking for myself, the most important thing is for me to get a sense that the team has a real plan to build towards a championship in the future... the "tried & tested" method of going after overrated overpriced talent to win championships has not worked out... i favor the direction our new team President is going in... that was the entire point of this thread to begin with... i think playoff expectations in year 1 of Donnie's regime is completely unrealistic right now... the more important goal needs to be to build team unity & develop our young players so that when the opportunity arises to starphuch for the type of talent WORTH investing longterm dollars in, it'll actually mean something other than getting Knicks fans excited over a completely flawed product.

TMS,

Stop being a baby would it make you feel better if I referred to you as "sir" and said "may I" when disagreeing with you get over yourself already lol. I question your logic on the Knick's direction NOT you personally and this isn's some kind of attack on you're character capiche.

Bitty, you are not addressing TMS's idea's but rather him. Maybe you should take some of your own advice? The getting over yourself part?

Why is everyone taking every thing so seriously? Everytime I respond to his posts im always given a dissertation on internet etiquette on how to respect others opinions.

I think you could give me a little more credit; if I wanted to insult him I could probably manage something a little more bitchy then saying his posts are tiresome.

Hey its no big deal if it will make TMS feel better. I apologize TMS for posting anything that you find personally insulting.

probably because you make it a point to show your complete lack of respect for others' opinions (at least mine) with some of your remarks instead of just presenting your counterpoints to create an actual discussion on the topic... believe me bitty, trading insults i have no problem with but out of respect to the mods & the others posters here i'd like to try & keep the discussions civil before i get another sticky thread telling me to knock it off... if u have a problem with that then it's probably not a good idea to respond to my posts.

Bitty has a point but she is being mean and bullying everybody. I am incredibly hurt by this whole discussion. It's all so upsetting.

My take

the realism of the nba is that it goes in cycles

you *have* to sck at some point if you want to be good again

I think for the most part a large majority of teams dont start the season with a hope of winning 15 games but there will always be 2-5 because this is how it works

the problem with the knicks is they had EVERY great opportunity to pick up 4-5 high draft picks over the last several scky years and we chose not to do it--alas we are still in the scky cycle and there is not one F thing we can do about it. Sorry chris duhon is not stsve nash hes not a pimple on steve nash touche.

I am very underwhelmed with what has gone on here since IT has gone

we chose a gm that honestly is a tad over the hill when we couldve used a young hungry GM like Portland and Seattle hired

We chose a coach who seemingly makes no sense for where we are with who we have

We set a course of action for FA in 2010 yet we already have the highest payroll of any team for that year

Our draft pick is questionable--not that I dont think he has a chance of being a good offensive NBA player 1 day but that I strongly believe that there was better direction at 6

chris duhon--who really cares even if he makes us 5 games better ?????????[which is questionable anyway]that's only worse---because we havent executed on the scky cycle

we still need to sck to get better--we forgot to do that

sorry about the pessimism but I still dont see it--understand it or agree with it

I think most Knick fans wouldve rather given Hasheem Thabeet a top 6 promise 3 months ago than anything that has gone on since to be honest.

Hasheem Thabeet>than anything we have done coach draft FA GM etc........ and the only way Hasheem was coming out was a top-heavy lottery promise. Now we will spend the whole year hoping we get into position to get him--oh wait--there will be some chinese G who we will get with pick 4

Briggs, I don't get what we are supposed to do. You can't turn **** into wine, you can bet your ass that Donnie is out there exhausting every single trade opportunity. No one wants the trash on this team and Mark Cuban himself said that it cost way to much money to even be buying picks during the draft. What is Walsh supposed to do?
