Not many players out there were gonna sign for 2 years. Knicks need to be more concerned with length of contract rather than size.

Classic girth vs. length debate.

Maybe not on the first day of FA, but surely as it wears on.

Maybe not. As the season wears on less money to be handed out with roster spots being filled.
That's not my point. Once the prices of Baron Davis, etc. are seen on the first day of FA, Duhon's demand would go up. He's already got his deal, though, but it might have gone higher in light of what Udrih is supposedly getting. I wasn't talking about going into the season, I was talking about the period that just started today.

Duhon and Udrih got the same deal(salary per yr) just less yrs for Duhon. He wasn't going to get a full MLE deal and I think he knows his value isn't higher than this so to sign a 2yr deal at MLE money is nothing because he can get the same amount possibly a little bit more 2yrs from now. He might have managed to eek out 1 more yr from someone or signed for less money longer yrs but he wasn't going to get the same exact contract Udrih got from anyone regardless of who signed where and for how much.

i wonder if duhon's agent went into the office and said "i want browne sanders loot"

Pause No Homo Duhon I believe wears contacts or has these really light brown eyes so what may have been precluded the request was I SAY UGH telling Duhon he's easy on the eyes. I mean we all know I SAY UGH was there during negotiations hammering the numbers out.

It's a safe signing nothing more nothing less just like the draft pick. Except Duhon comes at far less risks and paves the way to Marbury posting up on the corner with a "Why Lie I Need A Beer Sign."

i have no idea what this means.

$11.5mil lawsuit awarded to Anucha I SAY UGH told Anucha she was easy on the eyes. Duhon has really light brown looking eyes almost looks like a girl to a point he got $11.5 to sign with us.

I can't find anything on him being close to signing on ESPN.com. I searched through Sheridan's archives and found nothing. Was this on ESPNEWS or something?
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Great, we're bringing him in and not asking him to do something he can't, but something he is proficient in --- being a steady captain of the ship and distributing the ball effectively.

The Anti-Marbury.

A good, one-year fit, to have a pass first point guard on a team brimming with scorers. We haven't seen that dynamic on a Garden floor in recent years, if not ever. This is a good signing and committing for only two years is exceptional.

HAHAHA!!!

Anyway, I love this signing (if it happens). For a two year contract, a team pretty much HAS to overpay. These guys make a livelihood from their bodies and in order for Duhon to be willing to accept injury risk, he's got to get paid now. Awesome, awesome signing... the Knicks need a steady, stable point they haven't had since Charlie Ward. Do I think Duhon is going to turn this team around? Hell no. But I have to say I'm beginning to like what Walsh and D'Antoni are trying to do and that's putting guys who can move the ball around on the court together.

I think this would be a good deal for this team if it's finalized. You simply can't have EVERYONE on the team wanting to just shoot all the time. Someone has to be unselfish and set things up. It's his natural tendency and he's a solid PG. No flash, just execution and efficiency. If he's not drawing too much attention to himself, then he's doing his job.

ESPN Insider.

I'm not a big fan of Duhon, but for 2 years, I can certainly live with the signing. We can now start to look forward to life after Marbury.
I can certainly appreciate the fiscal responsibility of this of this move as well.

I have Insider but it just quotes today's papers about Duhon. I don't doubt we will sign him, it's just weird that it's nowhere on ESPN.

Pros: 2 year deal.

Cons: He's a backup, plain and simple. What makes it worse is that he's a backup with a bad attitude. He's not making anybody better as he's not a traditional pass first PG. He's also not some kind of top defensive player like some people here are trying to make him out to be.

Conclusion: Duhon is a stopgap PG. Walsh and D'Antonio have no use for Marbury, Collins, Nate or Crawford as PG's so a vastly mediocre Duhon is brought in. This is a nothing move but people are already making it out to be more than that.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

This guy is a good signing, and walsh sticks to a plan.

Good non starphuch move. The kid got screwed in Chicago. Sometimes management screws up and stuff happens. The kid has a good motor and D'antonis buddy, Coach K im sure had some imput on this signing.

The kid can run, and pass and shoot OK. He is a backup but he is for now a good fit.

Isles, your really a starphucher at heart.

A plan dude, a plan.

This is awesome, you gotta give Donnie some credit for only signing him for 2 years. It's great to have a GM who tells us his plan and STICKS to it. Awesome news, I think Duhon will be a pretty good player under D'Antoni.

fuggin A!
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Maybe not. As the season wears on less money to be handed out with roster spots being filled.

the money makes sense - i'd rather have duhon for two years at $11M than three years at $12M. to get him to sign for less years, we had to give him more money.

he's a guy that D'Antoni has been trying to acquire with the Suns for years. it's a solid, steady the ship move that will help us maximize the value of the guys we already have here.

I'd rather have someone like Tyron Lue/Anthony Johnson/Athony Carter at $2-3mil and sign another FA like a big/Earl Barron/Franciso Elson/David Harrison for $2-3mil on 2yr deals PO on the 2nd yr since all we're doing is stop gap signings, instead of giving Duhon almost all the $6mil.

I'll take this signing only for the simple fact it could be worse but most importantly axes Marbury.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/07022008/sports/knicks/knicks_make_bid_for_bulls_duhon_118135.htm
Duhon's agent said four other teams contacted him, with one of them possibly Miami. Duhon can't officially sign until July 9, and could seek a longer-term deal elsewhere.

The Knicks also contacted the agent for Sebastian Telfair and Tyronn Lue. Telfair, Marbury's cousin, became more attainable the past few days when Minnesota didn't make a qualifying offer, turning him into an unrestricted free agent.

guys we just may get our very own DJ Augustin?
