He got more chances than most players in the NBA. It was Mardy second year in the NBA and Isiah wanted him to start over Marbury. You can't get into a better situation than that. The main reason why he did not remain starting is because he could barely get the ball pass halfcourt. Think about it, Mardy is a 6'4 point guard. If he was good he would be the first attraction on other teams list. Malik Rose has a better jumper than Mardy. And Fred Jones can do everything better than Mardy. Again why is Mardy Collins so special.

When Mardy got that starting nod it was still early in the season and he still wasn't recovered from knee surgery. It was pretty much a desperate measure by Isiah. I don't think it was really a good situation for the success of any young player, let alone Collins, because the whole team/season was already in the shytter.
