Game 6 is indefensible. Wow, that Nadar column brought everything back into focus. Powerful ether. Just read the column that TrueBlue posted if one is unclear about what really went on. I also remember that at the start of the finals, between the Nets and Lakers, NBC asked Stern about Nader's criticism and Stern basically positioned Nader as some idiot or kook. It was just the height of bloated arrogance and his body language telegraphed a corrupt soul.

I dont want to muddy the waters by invoking Jordan, or past injustices. Just spotlight Game 6 and see how much the intergrity of the league holds up.

That's how Stern deals with anybody that has criticism for his league. He gives you that **** eating grin and says the person has no credibility. Stern is a pompous, arrogant ass. He got lucky with Bird and Magic and then Jordan. He rode their coattails, they built this league.

WCE=WORST COMMISH EVER and I look forward to every day the day he's gone. JVG interview told me a lot more tonight. Stern is disgusting.

the real icing on the cake is stern telling the judge in the Donaghy case that the league has been damaged as a result of his actions.

Really?

Does Donaghy have anything to gain from making these allegations?

I've lost a lot of respect for Stern- I don't think he is that different from Vince McMahon.

NBA is a big gambling business with the side sport show for fans.
And this stuff to come up now is bad thing for Lakers...
They will need to let it go without fixing... mostly...

Can't say I'm surprised. I doubt many are. I've been saying for years that this is more an entertainment venue than a professional sport.

At least that's what I tell myself in order to continue interest without getting all up in arms over bad calls and what not.

Even though the league has clearly backed down the tampering ever since delivering the title to Wade and Shaq....you can even see it in last night's game where the Lakers were pretty free to play physical defense without getting called for too many fouls at home that they weren't able to get away with away. It resulted in some horrid shooting and foul trouble that eventually sunk the Celtics by game's end.

It's just the way it is.

The way I see it there were always home called games and superstars that got leniency but Stern took it to a whole new level of blatant fixing of the game once Jordan left and a huge vacuum ensued. Watching LeBron consistently take 6 or 7 steps without dribbling the ball (Cleveland "beating" Washington) and Wade shooting 50 million FTs even when he wasn't even touched (Dallas "choking" against Miami) really put an end to any doubt IMO.

You always had Ewing's 4 steps to the rim, Reggie's throwing himself into players that got in the air, home calls shaping games..... but this blatant manipulation of games the past 7 or 8 years has been horrendous.

Oh well, again, it's an entertainment venue, it's not a professional sport.

Is it going to be as bad as this one day? Probably not but it sure was heading that way ever since Wade's five-non-called-violations "Series Changing Play!!!!" against the Mavs in the 3rd game of the Finals.

Since then it seemed like the league made an effort to go back the other direction and the fixing seemed less blatant as time went on.

You know, one reason the NBA became so popular through the 80s and 90s was the birth of hype and of featuring star players before and during games. It's just that the level of manipulation used to attempt to continue that or even further it is what has killed the game's integrity. Kids and casual fans don't see it. Long time fans do. Add in the whole "we're getting too ghetto" fiasco of a few years ago and now today the whole "and-1 sweetbawl" influence and background on the leagues young players and you have a fairly shaky product IMO.

Just go back to what we were doing during the 1985-1995 period of time and all will be well. There's plenty of tapes to watch and documents to read to remember what the formula was so I never did see the problem.

I guess to delinquents who idolize some fat sack of crap screaming unintelligable garbage into a microphone over extremely loud repetative beats while a bunch of hoodlum trash travels all over the place and chucks shots up from 40 feet away with a wide open rule book to follow.... it simply doesn't matter.

In fact, I wonder if that's what Stern was counting on in the first place for the present decade.

The NBA can say they don't "fix" games by telling their refs to favor one team over the other but why is it that in the most blatant cases (Wade in the Finals, the Lakers in game 6 against Sacramento and Jordan in any game) the questionable officiating ALWAYS goes for the team with the most marketable player or whose victory would most benefit the league?

That call was seriously ridiculous according to how calls were called back then. I've still yet to see anything worse than Game 6. Matter of fact you can't even find any amount of footage on the game online to watch. Somebody was selling it on eBay the other day.

The meaning is that people will eat any crap as soon as it called gold multiple times from big screeen or big stage... But this will still remains crap regardless and will never stand the test of time.

I thought that Donaghy had already made these allegations but did not release information to the press until the NBA sued as a victim of his crime for one million dollars.

FBI investigating NBA ref Bavetta

Tim Donaghy isn't the only bad boy in the world of referees, it appears. The FBI has apparently been asking around about Dick Bavetta, who has officiated over more NBA games than anyone else in history. A former NBA ref, Hue Hollins, said federal agents tracked him down last year to talk about how Bavetta handled games. By the way, Bavetta was the ref of the now infamous Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, which Donaghy claims was mishandled on purpose. (New York Times)

Dick Bavetta has always been a hit-man. When he shows up for big games, one team is going to get hosed!

Agreed pretty bad. Not worse than Kobe elbowing Bibby in the mouth in which it started to bleed and they called Bibby for a foul on Kobe. LOL!. Lakers had 4 fouls committed on them to start the 4rth and by the time the game ended 31 fouls were committed on them. LOL!

The fact you can dig up evidence on that game but can't on Game 6 is all that needs to be said.

You're obviously misinterpreting Bibby's mouth viciously and flagrantly hitting Kobe's elbow. Bibby should have better control of his face, he could have seriously hurt Kobe's elbow.
