How's this for a trade idea:

John Starks (USBL semi-finalist coach)
Chris Mills (benchwarmer for the Warriors)
Terry Cummings (long retired Gospel singer)

For

Keith Van Horn (#2 draft pick overall, 1st team All-rookie team 1998)?

Ok - that sounds weird, but you get the point. Remember when Spree was the cancer nobody wanted to come here? Especially when our HEART - JOHN STARKS, was a part of the deal?

Amazing how stuff can change...let's see what happens...

I didnt think Layden was dumb enough to do this. But he proved me wrong. Latrell Sprewell did nothing to deserve being shipped away. You can see the pain in his face when we lost. Dyess wanted to come here to play with spree. So what do we have now? Houston, Van Horn, Eisley, and Lampe jacking up three's no drives no inside presence and oh yea 5 or 6 undersized PF's.

Trading Van Horn for Spree did not improve this team. But as Jedi said maybe now we got another chance at the lottery, AGAIN.

Van Horn will fit in nicely with the team because he's a bigger and younger sf and will let the game come to him and allow Houston more shots. Believe it or not Houston may put up better numbers this year than last year because of this trade. Nows a good time to get Theo Ratliff from Atlanta because it's obvious they are doing some reshaping. Also, the fact is, KVH did put up better numbers than Sprewell this year. On a side note, Minny is going to be loaded. PG Cassell, SG Spree SF Wally PF KG C Kandi 6th Hudson...damn!

Now wait up a sec. KVH put up soem decent numbers in Philly and showed some balls on the boards last season. It was basically just him and Iverson last season and they got into the playoffs. Spree may still have life in him but he wa snot going to do it on this Knick squad, period. So we got a 6'10" small forward which will help on the boards and score more than Spree. And come on, most of you guys are praising a wimp like Lampe and trashing KVH? C'mon. Deal looks good for Minny though, Cassell and Spree and Sczerb and Garnett? Not bad. Would you guys have preferred Bad Dog instead of KVH? I think he's softer than KVH and dont know how that'll help Philly at all. Now if we can swing a deal for Ratliff, that would be interesting.

This might be a dumb question, but why are the Sixers trading away KVH for Glenn Robinson, whose defense is arguably worse than KVH's?

Why they are interested in downgrading is size is beyond me. This kind of raises a red flag to me. Are there more players involved in this deal that we don't know about yet?

This trade ID works in this scenario.. unfortunately for us we are trading Frank Williams. Real gm trade# 1151471.

Minny trades.

Troy Hudson
Terrell Brandon to Atl

Atl trades.

Big Dog
Chris Crawford to Philthy

Philthy trades

Keith Van Horn to NYK

New York trades

Sprewell
F.Williams to Minny

This works... I really hope this isn't the real combination though.

Layden's only been here a few years and already he has turned the team into a splitting image of himself. I see layden's everywhere from shooting guard to center. Heartless, slow and perennial losers.

How am i supposed to root for a team like this?

As soon as Layden gave Houston that ridiculous contract, Spree became obsolete in this town. Spree at the 2 in Minnie, will give that team a chance at the 2nd round for once, though I bet Kandi blows it there. Heart? Sure, for himself. That's his problem. I like his game a lot, but not at the 3, and not with his willingness to disrupt morale (hidden injury, public criticism of his superiors, lawsuits, etc.)

Keith is a better 3 than Spree. KVH played great last season, until, you guessed it, the playoffs. If Chaney hated Camby's attitude, wait until he watches KVH turn into a postseason punk. But, that's the point so many of you don't get. We're trying to get into the playoffs, the first round. KVH gets you to the first round by having a solid season. Still, it seems no one likes having him on the team. But, then again, Spree was also a problem with teammates, and didn't get good rebound numbers. If you aren't getting rebounds, you're not a forward, you're a backward. I'm sure Keith will be a letdown, but Spree had to go. There was no way Dolan would tolerate him one more season.

Spree will always have fans in NYC, which is good. He gave the team excitement. But last year he lost a step and caused the team to miss the playoffs by missing those first games. For that, he gets to play for a team that will never make the Finals, because they play in the West.

If the Knicks get Theo, they have a better team than last year, probably a team that gets 42-45 wins. And remember, if the Knicks make the playoffs, they make some much-needed cash, and Scott gets to keep his job another year. That's "the plan". Get used to it.

Since Minny will have to put in more to make the salaries match up, i hope we can somehow get either Troy Hudson or at least Marc Jackson. Getting Ratliff would be great too but i doubt it would happen in this trade.

"They are bigger, better"??

You cant really say that Keith Van Horn is a better three because even though Sprewell was smaller than most at the 3 his superior defense and help defense was clearly the best on the team. And even with that said we still needed more defensive help in order to win games. This trade did not help our defense, it made our offense stronger. But a stronger offense only means we are goin to lose games prettier, nothing more.

By the way if you thought the fourth quarters last year were bad, wait till we try to ask any of these guys to score in those waning minutes. They will pass the ball around until they are dizzy. "But atleast they are bigger" great.

Looks like the trade could be a 5-way... including Thomas getting sent to Sacto for Keon Clark.

I dunno, this is going to be a wildly new team once this trade becomes official (if it becomes official!).

I hear Marc Jackson might be going to the Sixers (which makes the KVH loss make more sense) somehow. The Knicks might be ponying up others too.

How would this starting 5 sound?

Keon Clark
McDyess
Van Horn
Houston
Eisley

Sounds like a fantasy league mess to me.
But wait... what about this second team:

Doleac
Sweetney
Lampe
Anderson
Ward

And I haven't even found a place for Spoon, Harrington, FW, and Vranes. That's depth. woohoo!

Yeah -

If we have to wait for Houston's contract to run out

(which we do...)

We might as well shake it up while we're waiting...Let's see what the New York Post will bring out of Utah boy. It'll be fun!

Depth? Please.

The only depth the Knicks will reflect will be in the standings for the next few years.

I hope to God that this deal falls the hell apart.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Just watch the numbers this season with KVH at the 3 compared to Sprewell at the 3. And watch overall spree stats at the 2 compared to Houston at the 2 this season. This will show how some just like spree for personal interest (police blotter street cred) Being late for games etc... than NY improving their team.

IF this deal doesn't (hopefully) come crashing down, I will watch those stats. As far as "police blotter street cred", who the hell likes anyone for that reason? The backwards idiots who put so much stock in this "street cred" crap have barely been out of the damn house, let alone know anything about the "street" outside of the fiction they are ignorant enough to believe that they see in the movies and TV. Please.

All this proposed trade does is screw the Knicks long term. Period.

Two seasons ago I would have agreed with that, but not after watching Spree get overwhelmed on D last year.

While KVH defnitely needs some kind of motivation (threats? beatings? testosterone treatments?) he won't be as big a liability on D as you think, simply because Spree showed how unable he was to guard bigger SF's last year. Swing men, he can handle, but lots of 3 slots are going to 7-footers who Spree is unable to block. And, like I said, no 'bounds.

I'll miss Spree. I wanted him to be our starting SG, but once Layden said "Allan is our 100mil man!" then Spree became an obstacle. He's simply not good enough at the 3 to start there. Keith is a better rebounder, and a better in-the-paint scorer. It appears his personality makes people hate him, and that will be a bigger problem than lead feet.

This deal doesnt seem so bad for the Knicks, The Knicks get bigger, add another shooter who will provide a bit more space for Spoon and KT to work the box, they also traded away gettin posted up by a bigger 3 night in & night out... Although Spree is the better defender of the two from a basketball standpoint this makes the Knicks a bit better on D as no longer do the knicks have to rotate all the time on D when posted up by a big 3, which caused lots of nightmare for the Knicks last season. If Dyess knee holds up they look actually very good... I will miss Spree but the face it the Knicks were flawed structuraly and have did thier best to remedy it...

Hoping for the best

When spree goes to minny and realizes that The ball will be in Cassel's hands and Kg "must" get his touches and wally is a vet+ Kandi man wants to prove he is a true center too, how long will it take for Sprewell to force up shots just to prove he belongs and needs his shots. Waiting to see how he handles playing with a league MVP candidate and a point guard who thinks shoot 1st. I expect all his unselfish play to go down the drain once he gets comfortable in minny. They won't go any further in playoffs with him

Nah, won't happen. Minny has a better coach than NY (then again, who doesn't?) who'll figure it out.
