briggs, i don't disagree with you.

but i'm coming from a the perspective of being a gm in new york city. that's different from being a gm in minny and dallas. i'll give you LA but they already had kobe on the roster so if the gamble fails...they still have the draw to sell tickets.

Ny has built the team every such way except for the draft the last 7 years--what has it gotten us? Actually the only decent players we have were drafted.

I would love to move up, but if we can't I feel we should keep the pick. I believe we'll get a pick that will be worthy of the 6th pick. We have shot to get Mayo, even if it's slim and then after that guys like Randolph, Westbrook, Gordon, Gallinari ... all have a good chance to be a success rather than a bust. I'll leave that to Waltoni to assess.

His body is so far away from NBA ready and he is just not a consistent shooter right now. I think he's going to struggle a lot early and its no slam dunk that he's gonna reach most of his potential. I'm just not that excited.

That is a fallacy. If this is true Manute Bol wouldve never played 1 second in the NBA--I shook Manute Bol's hand[which was the biggest I have ever seen] his arms were like a praying mantis--as thin and as long that it reminded me of someone who had an eating disorder. That being said how come guys like Reggie Miller Rip Hamilton etc.. are so good? Randolph will put on 10-15 pounds but he is already wiry strong--if he was so weak--why did he lift just as much weight as Brook Lopez? If this kid works hard he's going to be an all star level basketball player. He brings so much to the table for our particular type play--he brings shotblocking a guy who can intiate the break off the boards a guy who can play that shaun Marion 4 role at some point. There are question marks with some players. With randolph all he has to do is work hard and he'll be a very good player. He's unique and could be a special player. In terms of consistency shooting--he's already a good shooter hes got nice form---practice and hard work --that is it. He already has all of the skills and he has some mental toughness==he is not a chicken. I know there are some really nice choices up to 12-13 or so but I think we would regret not taking him.

I agree. If you got a potential all star big man who can play the team game and both ways and is skilled, you HAVE to take him. It's not worth giving up on him just to dump a contract. And if he's gone, then you still have the Westbrooks and Joe Alexanders available, and they are more worth it to me anyway. I am keeping pick 6.

Thanks for the tape - now I feel a lot more comfortable with a possible Randolph pick.

In watching the tape I'd say his obvious weaknesses righ now are....

- offensive post game (he was jacking up some very weak - off balance shots down low)
- outside shot (this wouldn't worry me because he shows some decent touch and that will only get better)
- overall physical strength (doesn't bother me either because he'll get significantly stronger)

I would never consider this kid a small forward because he just can't shoot well enough but he is very intriguing as a PF and definitely reminds me most of a younger Chris Bosh and Lamar Odom.

His handle is pure, he sees the floor, he runs the floor, he attacks the rim, he can block shots and he will rebound). I'm not sure about his on-ball defense but overall I'd have to be content if this were our pick at #6. Could we trade down and still get him at #10?

Right now at #6 I put my preferences as follows - with some guys moving up and down based on recent information and additional videos coming out.

Mayo
Bayless
Gordon
Randolph
Alexander
Westbrook

Gaining weight? Are we talking 10/15 lbs of muscle? Anthony Randolph is only 18/19....he's gonna gain weight regardless naturally. He can add 10 lbs of muscle before the start of the season with a professional trainer easy.

Skill wise? Anthony is good. He is a slasher. He can do that. Watch him put that ball on the floor. The dude is good. The Knicks don't have a guy that can do what he does.

I am a bit impressed with his ability to push the ball up the floor. I am reminded of Lamar Odom, as some people already mentioned. It looked like a lot of his rebounding came from his height rather than superior positioning, which would not be as dominant in the NBA. But his passing was exceptional for a big man and his ability to take the ball to the hoop off the fast break was impressive.

So what's the knock on this guy? Too young? No jumpshot?
You know I gonna spin wit it
