I also would like to take a look at other big men like McGee, Arthur and Randolph.

Out of those three, Arthur is the only one I'd feel comfortable taking at six. Even then, I'm somewhat scared of him. He's going to be a PF but he plays like a SF. He needs to learn to bang and rebound.

I haven't seen Mcgee play, but I didn't hear anything about him and I watch a decent amount of college basketball. Nor did any of my college basketball bar buddies. I think he's an internet sensation, but I could be wrong... I haven't watched as much as years past because of grad school.

Randolph seems like Tyrus Thomas part II, only without the spectacular NCAA tournament, so I'll pass.

All 4 players I mentioned might not be anything but serviceable role players throughout their career. You still need great role players to win in the NBA, but where we're picking we need something better than a good role player. Hopefully whoever we draft just comes in and works really hard. Thats all we can ask for because we're not in a position to draft a "sure thing."

Please no more "combo guards" on this team! The only combo I like is someone who can play the 2 and 3 well.

Oh I agree with your logic and mindset... I'm just offering commentary because I love watching the NCAA, mostly to see how the prospects pan out.

And we agree on the combo guard point. If the Knicks draft Eric Gordon I'm going to consider throwing myself into oncoming traffic, but then change my mind and complain about it here.

Yeah it's tough to figure these college players out nowadays no matter how much you watch them. Back in the day you used to see them going against top competition for 3 and 4 years before they would come out for the draft. It sucks now and makes it really tough on NBA teams because if they screw up it sets them back years. So much pressure will be on Donnie Walsh at 6 to get it right that he might just opt to package the pick along with one of our stiffs and move down in the draft where there will be less pressure. It could happen unless Donnie is really sure about a particular player at the 6 spot.

per chad ford:

On Wednesday I heard several interesting "promise" rumors. The first said that Texas A&M center DeAndre Jordan has a promise in the Top 5 of the draft. The two sources who gave me the information were NBA front office sources in the lottery who said that Jordan's agent, Joel Bell, wouldn't schedule workouts with them.

Jordan getting a promise that high is a little bit of a surprise. He has the physical tools to be an excellent NBA big man in a Dwight Howard type of mold. But he struggled mightily the second half of the season and many scouts question his motor and work ethic.

If it's true it's one of three teams -- the Wolves, Sonics or Grizzlies. All three need centers so … I guess it's plausible.

I will say this for Jordan, he's the highest risk-reward player in the draft. If he turns into Andrew Bynum or Howard someone will look like a genius. If he turns into the next Michael Olowokandi, someone will lose their job.
