I think Bayless will either be very solid or an all-star type player.

He is a combo guard - in fact I'd say Nate is a better point prospect right now just because he's more creative.

The thing I didn't like about Bayless (and I saw him play 4-5 full games) was that he appeared very one dimensional and only seemed in play when the ball was in his hands. He never once started out on a move with the apparent intension of setting up someone else. He appeared to have blinders.

I also didn't like the fact that he settled for outside shots quite a bit and his in-between game (15 - 8) feet in wasn't apparent.

He either went all the way to the hole with a dunk or lay-up or took one or two dribbles and shot from 18-20 feet out.

I felt Mayo was the better all around player both in terms of a varied offensive arsenal (much better passer and rebounder) and as a defender. Also felt Mayo handled the ball better. Mayo doesn't shock you with his athleticsm but the smoothness of his game stands out.

I think Briggs is right -- if we are at #5 Bayless is a decent consolitation prize but I would be super surprised if we took the LSU kid just based more on size and potential and the fact that if Steph stays we'd have 3 solid back=court players already.

There you go, now this is the stuff I want to read! Thank You LivingLegend for an honest assessment. If he's not a pure point, I do not want him. Combo guards are good for the SECOND TEAM, not first team. I would much rather draft Mayo if you tell me he's a pure 2 guard can shoot and play defense. But if we stay at 5 then my preference would be for the kid from LSU. I'm not wasting my top 5 pick on a "combo guard."
if we get Bayless i wouldn't be mad .... same goes with Mayo.

all i'm hoping is that Stern fixes the draft and we get Derrick Rose.

He is a sure thing and a franchise player. He has tremendous talent and nbadraftnet has the Knicks taking him also. He allows the Knicks to buy out Marbs or trade Crawford.

NBADRAFT.net compares him to Gilbert Arenas. Uh, no thank you. The last thing we need is another selfish clown running the point on the Knicks. Bayless sounds like the anti Steve Nash. And when Nash leaves the game or is out with an injury and Barbosa ran Planet Orange, it was more like off off off Broadway.

nbadraft.net sucks ... they once compared DeShawn Stevenson to Michael Jordan.

Not impressed. You are either born to play the point or you're not. It's an instinctive position and it sounds like he's more of a 2 guard. Undersized at that. A lot like Marbury but because of height, has to play the point. But to play the point and play it well, you need to have that inner drive where you are the happiest when you create and set up your teammates. And the elite point guards not only can set up and create for the teammates, they can score when scoring needs to be done.

Watching Chris Paul all season long made me realize what is so special about him...and that is tempo. He CONTROLS, no actually DOMINATES the tempo of a game. Mind blowing stuff when you pay close attention to him. All the great players have this and when it's your point guard, you win lots and lots and lots of games.

(we're talking about building a championship team here, not the Washington Wizards)

i don't get it... you're so opposed to the idea of drafting this kid yet you just admitted you haven't watched him play... i can understand if u want Mayo cuz u've seen him play & want him bad, but to be opposed to another player you don't know about is curious to me.

Who said I wanted Mayo? What I said was after Derrick Rose, the rest is a crapshoot. I'm opposed to Bayless because I LOVE TRUE POINT GUARDS and I HATE with a passion Gilbert Arenas/Stephon Marbury type "point guards." If the pick is between Mayo and Bayless, I would go with Mayo because he's a TWO guard. And I don't have to watch Bayless play to know, I just read all the write ups on him and not one person says he's a true point. They all classify him as a "combo guard." And if I'm starting a team, the last thing I want to do is build a team around a "combo guard" who will play the point. Now if we had Shaq or Duncan down in the low post, then yeah, it could work, but we don't.

And what I'm getting at is you don't draft a point guard at 5 just because we need one. We need to draft the right one and if the right one is not there then you pass and look elsewhere for the time being. There are only 5 positions on the court, this is not the NFL where you can get away with drafting by need because there are a lot of different positions and two sides to the ball. In the NBA you need five guys working as one and the last thing you need is a selfish ball hog at the point. Not a great start to rebuilding us into a team that could one day compete for a championship. Isn't that what it's all about?

Then give me Derek Fisher. Just no Gilbert Arenas at the point.

Bayless at 5 is a bad pick if you ask me. there are players with higher ceiling we could go for instead.

Hey the Mets beat the Yankees today.

to stay consistent with the mets lockerroom, i'll divide my post up...

subway series in may/june are the only big series the mets really get a chance to take part in so good for them. i think if they beat the yanks tonight, they should probably hold a small parade down the canyon of roosevelt avenue tomorrow morning before heading down to atlanta...you know, as a thank you to their fans for sticking by them through all the thin and thin...

I think Bayless is a very good pick up at 5. But if you think there are better options I would like to hear them.

The only real deals in this next draft will be Rose and Beasley. The rest of these guys are almost impossible to know what they are gonna do when they get drafted. We can only hope we end up with someone who will be very good for us.

This is where I think Walsh will be most valuable. He's very detailed in making his decisions. And of course, unless he hires a GM before hand, which seems nowhere in sight.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Hey if you remember I was in favor of trading Milledge. Not because of his off the field stuff, but because of his very bad defense. Dude can't catch fly balls. Now Carlos Gomez well thats another story, definitely did not want to trade him. I would have traded the waaaay overpaid Beltran before Gomez.

Meh...it doesn't even feel like a big series. Both teams stink. But please Yankees fans stop whining about not having A-Roid and Posada in the lineup. Take away those 2, you still have 140 plus million in talent.
