I'd take Mayo in the 3-5 range.

I think the Knicks should use the lottery to get a franchise player (until 2010 when they could have a shot at LeBron), rather than trade for the likes of Carmelo, who would sort of fill that role sub-optimally.

if we got 1-2 I think I would take a shot at Beasley or Rose. Anything else this trade can not even be debated. Defintate yes

then i stand alone on an island...

I'm with you.

Melo is a ESTABLISHED star in this league who can take the big shot and not afraid to guard the other teams top player. Also has shown that he can play with anyone (i.e. Iverson/K. Martin)

Rose and Beasley may have been studs in College but none of us know how all that will translate in the NBA.

He may not be afraid but he's incredibly bad at it.

When I watch USA basketball--many times the player who looks the best is Carmelo. Whoever thinks there will be several players in this draft who are better than melo--you are out of your gord. If I didnt get pick 1 or 2 and they offered me Melo for pick whatever and Marbury--as long as I knew that he was straight in terms of any of the court drinking etc.. problems that it was just a period of time many people go through--then it's a no-brainer and this is coming from a guy who supports building through the draft as much as anyone. The kid is 23 years old and has first team all NBA talent and has been an NBA and Olympic impact player from day 1.

dj's question was whether or not you would trade #1 or #2 for Melo.

I cant believe more people wouldnt go for Melo for the pick[sans 1-2]. He has been the main catalyst to turn that team into a winning team--he is a huge component. I cant see Walsh or Dantoni saying no to Melo for a draft pick--even pick 3--I wouldnt.

How can someone compare him to Marbury? Marbury was on all losing teams except one his last year in Phoenix/ BEFORE Denver drafted Melo they won 17 games. Since then they have been a solid team with a good winning % in a tough conference. If Denver was in the east--we would be talking about 52-54 wins per. No player can win alone--Denver had serious injury problems with martin Nene etc... Melo is a winner--he won at Syracuse and hes been a winning player at Denver. He is No Zach randolph or Marbury--he's an elite level player and 23 years old still I believe---what player have we acquired with his kind of skills size and resume to back it up? I mean he is nearly a 30 point scorer shooting 50% a solid rebounder good passer--in this ssytem he could be a 30-32 point scorer. No way the Knicks give that up.

I totally agree. Melo is a stud. He is just below the level of a Wade or Lebron. Dude can definitely carry a team. He has had some off the court issues, but they have been nothing major. If the pick is not 1 or 2, I trade it for Melo and plug him in at SF for the next 7-8 years.

Yeah, basically everyone here agrees; they just don't realize it because they're discussing different issues!

Not in that case. I think Beasley could be better than Melo and Rose has a chance to be a franchise PG. If I feel I can get just as much out of Beasley than the $$$$ isnt worth spending.

I would take Carmello Anthony because he has got better ever year he has been in the league. Playing for the pistons would have changed how he viewed the game , because the vets on the team has a way of reeling in rookies and commanding them to conform.

Carmello needs a new start different enviorment and new coach and teammates.

That means mardy would have to be traded or boughtout.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I wouldn't give up pick number 1 or 2 because you have a chance to get a home grown superstar rather than one that came in a trade. Beasley will be better and Rose has star PG written all over him. These two are going to be superstars.

I do like Brigg's idea of sending Marbury to play for George Karl.

do you mean franchise pg like chris paul or deron williams? b/c that would have to be the case.

melo is 24 and is a bonafide stud player. yes, this team needs a pg but it needs a star more than that. would you rather have rose or be able to get melo and trade someone (like lee) for a pg?

if Rose can be your star then it kills 2 birds with 1 stone... why give up a chance to draft a franchise PG for Melo at this point? i'd rather have Rose & Lee than Melo's contract personally... i just don't see him as the guy we wanna build this franchise around.

speaking of melo...some more gossip to chew on...
The Nets are crossing their fingers for a miracle during Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery in hopes that a high pick could yield them Carmelo Anthony, according to The Record (New Jersey).

Multiple league sources have said that the Nuggets and Nets are discussing a blockbuster trade that would send Anthony and Marcus Camby to New Jersey in exchange for a package that includes Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams, Keith Van Horn's contract and New Jersey's lottery pick.

The Nets have a 1.1 percent chance of landing the top overall pick, and just a 4 percent shot at falling in the top three.

"You're always looking to do something to make some sense," Nets president Rod Thorn said. "If something presented itself that we felt could really help us,. then we might look to move either or both of our picks. But right now it appears to me we'll stay with at least the 10th pick and probably the 21st also."

that trade makes no sense for the Nets... they would have Vince & Melo sharing the ball w/Devin Harris, meanwhile neither Vince nor Melo plays much of any defense? let the Nuts have him for that package... they ain't winning any championships w/that trade... they should just unload Vince to any team willing to give up a shorter length contract & build their team around Harris, RJ & whoever they draft this season in the lottery.
