D'antoni said he'd be disappointed if the Knicks weren't a playoff/bubble team.

Will his desire to win now trump Walsh's stated goal of cap flexibility?

Thats the fear.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Well obviously D'Antoni has to stand up for his Mojo I'm sure in the back of his head he thinks the Suns are going to crumble to pieces without him.

I think losing for one more year would have been the prudent thing to do becuase we own our pick next year. Hypothetically speaking, now we will be forced to draft 13 instead of 3rd. Thats the extra price of hiring D'antoni. I would've been down hiring a Thibodeux assistant-type for a year or so, cementing a defensive culture that wins in the playoffs, draft high, and THEN sign a marquee coach to lure thelikes of Lebron.

why do you assume that this team will be fighting for an 8th seed just because D'Antoni is on the sidelines. Last I checked, this is still the same team of odd parts that won 23 for the great next-town-brown, 33 and then 23. Barring major player movement over the summer, or the luck of the draw in the lotto, this team aint winning for anyone.

I think this up coming season may be used as a year to evaluate the roster with the idea of winning slightly on the back-burner. Walsh said that he hired D'Antoni to be a partner with him to help evaluate the roster and weed out the odd parts. Walsh seems to believe in D'Antoni's eye for talent and his ability to develop or get the most out of talent. I dont' think we will be very good next year at all.

Remember, D'Antoni will be instilling a brand-new system next year that will take a while for the players to get used to. There will be a lot of bumps and pot-holes along the way. Not to mention, we just don't have the right pieces yet to excell in the system. With that said, next year might not be as good as you think.

personally i think the team will be at least in the hunt next season, maybe finishing just short of the playoffs w/a 36-38 win season... of course i thought the same thing before last season so nothing really surprises me w/this team... we'll just have to treat the upcoming year as a time to evaluate the players we have & see if they can play in D'Antoni's system like u said... we've waited this long for a coach to finally establish some kind of winning style of play, we can afford to wait a little longer as long as the crap that went on last season doesn't ever happen again.

That's interesting this isn't to start any argument but you have them winning possibly 36-38gms while as of now I'm on record as them winning 39gms.

When I heard D'Antoni say that, to me, it was him saying every team should play to make the playoffs, but in reality only 16 teams do. To me, it was him saying, I'm always going to try hard.

Walsh was pretty adament in his plan to gain cap flexibility and he said he explained it very carefully to D'Antoni when he interviewed him. I think D'Antoni knows whats up and its his job to make this team as exciting as possible while Donnie does his thing.

yeah, i don't think it's gonna turn around all of a sudden just cuz we got a new coach... the players are still here bottomline... they'll be better than last year though, & as long as i see some development of a team attitude & some synergy developing among these guys that we didn't see last season, i really don't put too much emphasis on the W-L tally in D'Antoni's 1st season... afterall his 1st season in PHO wasn't all that great either but they improved by leaps & bounds the following season after they brought Nash into the fold... i'm hoping whoever we draft this year will go through his growing pains in his rookie season & then help to make a more significant impact in his second season, though that's still every optimistic... i think the real noticeable change will occur in year 3 when the Knicks hopefully will have some cap flexibility to make some major roster moves.
